Stopped here before heading home for a late lunch. Ample parking since it's in a plaza. Cute in the inside, we were greeted and sat immediately. Our waitress was busy so they took our drink order and gave us menu's. I chose off the U pick 2 & chose the soup and 1/2 sandwich. I had the chicken tortilla soup & Uncle Mark's pub Club, my dining companions had the Chicken Gorgonzola Salad and the Turkey Avocado Sandwich with a crock of Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda Bisque. Everything was real good. The beer choices sounded great but we had a hour and 1/2 drive home so we passed. Would definitely give the place another try if in the area. read more

Emily m was our server, she was very friendly. We sat right next to the pizza oven, which was super awesome that it was open and you could see all the pizzas being made. Key lime slice cocktail 10/10 Amazing. The key lime flavor was perfect and you couldn't even taste the alcohol (dangerous lol). Bonus cause the whipped cream garnish was super cute Chicken enchilada soup 8/10 Good. Medium spice level, but more so in the back of the throat. Wish had more of an enchilada sauce type of flavor though. Carbonara pizza with chicken 10/10 Amazing. Creamy sauce, salty prosciutto, and fresh tomato and green onion. Really really good balance. Dough is also really good and cooked perfect in the brick oven. The dough also holds really well when eating the slice. read more

Looking for wings on our way out of Erie and back to Pittsburgh, we stopped here after seeing it on Yelp. Dry rub wings were smoky and good, but they have only BBQ sauce (which did not taste special) and buffalo sauce. The latter delivered too late for me to try it. In hind sight, if we wanted wings, we should have gone elsewhere. Pizza was also tasty although our first one, withe xtra marinara on it, was too wet and sloppy to eat. They gladly made another with extra marinara on the side. It was a veggie pizza and good, with marinara flavorful. Wife enjoyed a bottle ginger beer which she liked. Said it was strong of ginger which is good for her. My house-brewed brown (low ABV before a 2 hour drive) was true to style and delicious. If we lived in the area it would be on our rotation I think. Parking ok, ambience and seating also good. Service VERY good. Awesome communication. read more

When we stopped in, the place was very crowded due to football games being televised. The staff found us a table in ample time. Our server was right on it even though he had many others to take care of. The beers were very good with a wide selection. Definitely will be going back. read more

On our way home, we pulled into a service station, and my wife warned, "Whatever you do, don't look left." When she returned to the car, she asked, "Did you look?" I replied, "Yes, but something's blocking my view." Turns out, it was a brewery--like striking gold! We had no choice but to stop in. Once we arrived, we headed straight to the bar. Our waitress had a quirky charm about her that made us smile. Instead of a flight, I dove right into a beer, though I did sample two before settling on the Oktoberfest, a delicious traditional Märzen lager brewed with Pilsner malt--so good! When it was time to order, she asked for a name, and I gave her my wife's. Her response, "Of course," was priceless! She even complimented my shirt, which proudly displayed my favorite college football team--also hers and her family's, as it turned out. In the end, we were thrilled with this unexpected find. We had visited a couple times previously and everything was good , never had a burger until this evening. Absolutely NO! Did we miss something in the menu that stated they are frozen, precooked, made to resemble something...meat? Mashed bean burger? Beef meal from a dog food factory? We took our leftovers to our dog but this mystery burger type thing we left for your trash. The kielbasa we had the first time was very good, but this night it was greasy, the dog liked it though so that was a win. Not a lot of pork in the Pork and Kraut egg rolls. Rueben was good. We have had the pizza and it was ok, needed a few more minutes in the oven to get that true flavor from the brick oven. Service has always been great! It would be awesome if you had a freezer for the beer mugs, sometimes we've had pretty lukewarm beer, it's 50/50. read more

Went to John Russel Brewing with my family and tried a few items from their Pizza oven! The Pizza was good but had a lot of topping's on it which made the pizza a bit greasy but still held a great flavor. The Carbonara was my favorite! Super establishment with VERY notable brews. It's also well-staffed with friendly and conscientious people who attend to you like family. I had the pizza margherita, and it was superb. It's not easy to do a great homemade pizza crust, and this one is fluffy and tasty! Fresh basil and cherry tomatoes on oven-melted mozzarella. Only $12! The Weissbier was just perfect, too. Our hockey team decided on this place as it was near our hotel. The beer selection was great and the food was pretty good. The prices seemed a bit high but the quality was decent enough. The service was excellent. They had to deal with over a dozen teens and their parents but managed to keep up and happily worked out separate checks which isn't easy. The restaurant is nicely laid out despite the location. They did a pretty good job with the space available. read more

If you've seen my other reviews, you know that beer is important to me so let's just start there. I'm honestly not a fan of their home brewed stuff...BUT...Everyone has different tastes. They hit the mark with variety. I love that in addition to their own brews they offer a nice selection from other brewers as well. Another cool offering is that you can get a flight of beers from both their house and outside menus. Our server was great. Attentive and accommodating, even though they were fairly busy. The appetizers we got were all good...big pretzel, pulled pork nachos, and artichoke dip. The place itself had a pretty cool feel to it. This particular part of Erie is littered with chain joints, so John Russel is like an oasis of character in an otherwise sterile field of corporate blah. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Honestly a really unpleasant experience. Wanted to try somewhere non chain near all the shopping and apparently should've stuck with something we know is tasty. Ordered the pulled pork nachos for an app.. ended up being a step above stadium nachos.. canned nacho cheese, pork that tastes like the pre packaged soaked in tons of sugary sauce with some lettuce, tomatoes and jalapeños on top so that was already disappointing. Ordered burgers and had noticed the server didn't ask how we wanted the burgers done and when they came out realized why.. literally crap frozen burgers that are cooked past well done, not seasoned and slapped on a crappy bun. So beyond DRY and flavorless. Asked the server if the burgers are always like this and she just said yeah that's how they come. You'd think with a place that has wood fired pizzas (which must be the only good thing there since reviews looked good online and honestly the only reason for choosing this place) would put a little more effort into the other items on their menu. Got a flight of beer and nothing blew me away either. Was a little put off by seeing one of the cooks (they have an open kitchen concept) eating something in plain sight. Drink selection was great. Beer very good. Of the 3 entrees we ordered, the apple maple turkey burger wasn't great. Looked like a preformed frozen patty and tasted bland and spongey, not a typical burger texture. The apple part were 2 very thinly sliced tiny red apple pieces and red apples have little flavor. So if not for the maple mustard sauce, it would have tasted like cardboard. If we return, would not order burgers. The fries were few and no crisp, just pieces of cut up potatoes. The food was good. Not exceptional. I feel a bit pricey for what you are getting. Nice atmosphere and good service. The lunch felt more like $42, but cost $62. Thats what I would expect to pay for dinner, not lunch. With a 20% tip its closer to $75 for lunch for 2 people ( in Erie?). You might want to rethink that. Great selection of drafts. My only regret is I didn't go here sooner. Great atmosphere on the inside and they are starting a new Irish menu. The Reuben pizza was excellent. Football was on TV and it was a packed house. They pour a quality Guinness and service was on point. If I ever come back to Erie I will be coming back here. read more
