    Wine galore
    Andrew C.

Great spot for all kinds of beer, wine, cider --- you name it. Inside the big warehouse-y space is nicely organized, with wide aisles and tidy shelves and helpful associates to get you what you're looking for; a bar against the wall makes it a great place to grab a pint from one of the 16 taps. What really elevates this location of John's is the food cart pod just outside - with covered heated seating -- in case you get hungry. Good options too: Thai, sushi, middle eastern, etc. Also? Lots of parking spots!

How can you go wrong? Sit down with your Beer? Sit down with your wine? Grab a drink and sit at the bar? I mean.. is there a beer+ wine surplus shop in NYC that marry the two? I haven't heard of one! You want a ton of wine choices? Whiskeys you've never heard of? Maybe beers so bitter they melt your face off? This Marketplace is the spot and it's jammed to the rafters. Since my daughter wanted to go to a Dollar General next door, hubs used this place as down-time. Not sure which beer he ordered- but he enjoyed it alright. The space is huge. Barrels double as hi-top tables, several booths and a plentiful bar area. The staff was helpful and offered hubs some beer suggestions.

I'd never even heard of John's Marketplace before, let alone been inside one. If it wasn't for the bartender at Wyrd Leatherworks and Meadery telling me about it, and that it was basically the only place nearby where I could score a bottle of Dansk Klapojster Mjod, I'd probably still be ignorant, and that would be a shame! What a transformation this place has undergone over the past few years! What used to be a run-down strip mall filled with odd little shops (a Scottish memorabilia store, for one!) is now a thriving food cart pod, bolted on to the side of a fantastic little market selling adult beverages from all over the world! The selection here is incredible: beers, meads, ciders, wines, mixers, snacks, non-alcoholic "spirits", and a lot more. Honestly, the sheer number of cans and bottles is a bit overwhelming: you could spend an hour or two just browsing the shelves, taking in the vastness and variety of their inventory, before making your final selection(s). If you're not in a hurry, there's an actual bar with multiple beers on tap, where you can sit down a catch a game on one of the overhead TVs; or grab lunch from one of the food carts just outside, and wash it all down with a drink from the beer window that opens outward facing the pod. Did you know you can order kegs to go? Well, now you know! In short, if you're looking for a boozy beverage, sans the "hard stuff" (spirits), this little library of libations is your one stop shop! Thanks, John, whoever you are!

Can I say "Wow"? Because that was my thought when I walked inside. As a beer connoisseur and snob, moving to Portland the beer has been hard to get adjusted to. Some solid beers for sure, but some not so solid, especially coming from San Diego - the beer capital of the US. They had some of my SD beers and a good selection of other stuff. Amazing beers - made my month, no joke. The staff - pretty bad ass (This is a good thing). Super knowledgeable, hospitality focused, dope people working behind the bar. My new spot to stock up on amazing beers. Thank you for having a killer staff and the best beer selection I've seen in a 40 mile radius. Y'all rock!!!

Is there such a thing as too much beer??!! If so, this place has it!!! I've never seen such a wide selection of beer in one place before. It was a tad overwhelming for me at times. If you're really into beer this is store for you. This place opens up on the other side to about 8 food carts and a bunch of tables to sit down. They'll open whatever you bought inside to drink with your meal. Apparently, it's also dog friendly. Wish we had known that.

    Many return visits to come

Beer nirvana has arguably the most extensive selection in Portland. Thankfully, beers are mostly sold as singles. And they haven't gone the way of many retailers that stopped selling the smaller sized bottles. The staff and was very friendly, although I had to repeat a very simple request to the bartender FOUR times. They open into a small collection of excellent food carts. Lastly, there's a sizable parking lot!

Wow! Seriously, wow! Large, spacious market filled with adult beverages of every kind from all over the world. Neatly lined up on shelves creating a Kalaidascope of images, like art. Aisles are wide encouraging customers to wander at leisure, marveling over the colorful labels, interesting and sometimes hilarious names, and the vast collection of beer, cider, sours, wine, and bubbles. They even sell Tipsy Pop booze ice pops. All this under one roof! In my next life, I want to drink and get paid to create names and design labels for adult beverages. Who knew this was even an option? Wit the Funk, Stable Genius, Fukola Cola are just a few of my faves. With so many options, you can purchase by the bottle or can to create your own 6-Pack or case of fun. My head is already exploding with ideas for my next party, when the Pandemic passes and I can once again entertain at home. I have never been to or heard of the previous John's Marketplace, so watching the construction I thought it was a grocery marketplace, which was why I pulled a u-turn as I was driving by when I saw they finally opened. After I got over the disconnect, I wandered around for about 20 minutes, taking it all in, happy to have discovered this gem. Even found a bottle of red table wine from Sincann, one of my favorite wineries, and enjoyed it last night. Hope they stock their Cab Franc which is decadent. For those wanting to enjoy a beverage on the spot, a huge, shiny bar with counter stools welcomes you to the left. Knowledgeable and friendly staff answers your questions, makes recommendations and offers tastings. There are a few tables, socially distanced, where you can sit with friends and socialize. It doesn't get any better than this! Wait - walk through the side door to a killer outdoor patio with party lights, vibrant murals, tables and a Beer Window - and yes, it just got better!!! Next store is a food cart park with lots of delicious options that pair well with your favorite beverage on tap or a bottle/can you purchase, with another window opening to this area. I can't wait to come back with friends. To compliment the beverages, they have an area dedicated to soda (also unique varieties) and mixers - please stock Fever Tree tonic! Plus glasses of all shapes and sizes specific to your beverage of choice, and snacks from Olympic Provisions. This place is a gem! Since I cross the river frequently for Target, Safeway and Petco runs, this will be my new go-to for wine, cider and beer. Just walking through the aisles feels like an adventure, a welcomed distraction and way to spend an enjoyable half hour in these days of quarantine. I feel like I wandered down a rabbit hole, and a wonderful one at that!

This isn't one of the fancier brewpubs in Portland (looking at you 10 Barrel and Deschutes) but that's never been the Crux brand so I'm happy to see them stick to their down to the earth origins and focus on making really good beer. The bar is nice and long and a good place to post up for a couple of pints, with plenty of cheery tenders to pour them for you. The space is overall industrial-feeling with tall ceilings and minimalist decor and mostly bare walls inside, but there's also an outside patio area with picnic tables in the parking lot, though that's best in the summer. We got the General Tso Cauliflower to start which was a great share plate, with awesome flavor in the sauce, though the actual cauliflower was a bit undercooked. Still, we polished it off no problem. Fish tacos were also a good call, and the thin, crispy fries were a crowd favorite. There are so many good sours, IPAs and other craft beer options here, my buddy just opted for the 4-brew flight (mostly IPAs) which we all sampled and loved, though it's kinda pricy for what's basically 20 ounces of beer. The one-off vintage 14% special beers are where it's at, but at that ABV level, we just decided to share one barrel aged Imperial Stout. So friggin caramelly and delish - the perfect dessert. The space was pretty quiet for a Saturday night but our service was absolutely next level, so it made for a super pleasant gathering for our small group. The food at this Crux location is probably best described as better-than-average pub fare, but not mouth-watering, and the ambiance is low key but also nothing super special. The beer and the staff though, are awesome, so I will be back for more.
