I had a immensely stressful issue with the catalytic converters on my 2012 Dodge Durango and after a nightmare of an experience with another auto shop, the guys at JTMM took full ownership of the problem, diagnosed it, made professionally informed decisions about what work was needed, communicated those decisions to me clearly, and after helping me fight thru a litany of warranty issues and such, performed the necessary work on my truck the right way. After almost a year of dealing with other far less accomodating and far less customer friendly shops (and driving a truck that felt and sounded like it was falling apart), I drove my JTMM-repaired truck off their lot and it literally felt and sounded like i was driving a brand new vehicle. 99 camry, 195k miles, good shape but only want it for a year. Went to mufflers plus in stallis b/c I had work done previously and explained the aforementioned. He gives me a $310 pipe replacement quote, classic "connection may be rusted" and it could be $530. paranoia aside,lets give him the benefit that he's legitimately providing a worst case scenario. O2 sensor is also bad, another 180 - can do later, but good idea if selling the car due to warning light. I stumble on JTMM, in 15 min his jr. guy tells me the pipe has a leak. Asks me if I want to see..of course & I feel the rusted holes (aka whistle). Suggestion was to cut it out & replace the section and not ( ..my words) F with the 14 yr old pipe/muffler connection. $60 bucks & I'm out of there in 20 min (I showed up 10 min before close). Have to get the 02 done later TM or Sat, but that's only $150. Thanks for the inexpensive fix, showing me the problem, letting me watch the repair, and not gouging me on a commuter car. $700 vs. $210 winning! read more

I had a problem with my exhaust system and through a referral, I went to John's. there are no appointments; it's first come, first served. They open at 8 am, and I got there about 7:20. Lo and behold, I was 3rd in line. I joked around with the 2 guys in front of me to pass the time, and they were long-time repeat customers. Shortly after 8, the place was slammed, so get there early. But now I know why! For a white collar guy like myself that doesn't know a lot about cars, these guys are the ultimate. They inspect your car, tell you the problem and tell you the cost before they swing the first wrench. When they are finished, they show you the work they did. As far as cost; UNBELIEVABLE! These guys are so reasonable, it's unreal. I could not have had a better experience and walked out with about $800 that I did not spend had I gone with the estimate I received from a chain muffler shop. I was a bit hesitant to give this review I'm afraid of letting one of the best kept secret mechanics in Milwaukee out of the bag. I have been taking my vehicles to John The Muffler Man for many years. I have a 2005 Mercury a 2003 GMC and a 2005 Honda and each vehicle has been in there at one time or another. I'm always assured they will diagnose and give me the best price on repairs in town. With older and high mile vehicle it feels like when one has an issue the rest are sure to follow. I like the fact that you can drop it off with out making an appointment and usually get it back the same day. I think what I like the most is the fact that this is a super honest shop (I know car repair shops and honest don't usually go together) they will diagnose the problem and let you know what needs Immediate attention and what can be put off and for how long. Had an issue with my power steering lines that were leaking. Took my truck to a different mechanic and they told me the rubber line was leaking and they fixed it, it was $250 which was expensive but I had them fix it anyway. A day later I seen it was still leaking so I took it back and they looked at it and told me the hard lines were now leaking and it would cost $900! So I waited a couple of weeks and I took it to John The Muffler Man early on a Monday, told them the problem and they told me it would be $350 dollars so about 3 hours later my hard lines were replaced and I was driving home with no leaks! These guys are awesome! They are some of the nicest guys and they are also fantastic mechanics. Over the past year, they have saved me a lot of time and money. Most recently, the dealer quoted me $7000+ to replace my entire exhaust, oxygen sensors, and a corroded fuel filler neck. The guys at John The Muffler Man said that my exhaust was actually okay and all that needed to be replaced were both O2 sensors and the fuel filler neck. I supplied the fuel filler neck myself because it was hard to find, but they were able to get everything fixed for under $800 including labor. Not to mention the labor took a lot longer than anticipated because of all the rust and they didn't charge me extra. This was my first time at John the Muffler Man to have a new tires put on my crossover. I had a fantastic experience. Everyone was knowledgeable and very friendly and the service was very quick. I had concerns with my rear brakes showing wear, but they let me know (and showed me) that I had plenty of pad remaining on the rear brakes. The catalytic converter on my volvo was falling off because of rust. The only replacement part my mechanic was able to find cost $1,400. I brought the car to John the Muffler Man and they were able to weld the converter back together for only $80. Enough said! When I got the car back, it was purring like it was brand new.
