Whenever I need to get into the LA area, I try to avoid LAX at all cost as the chaos there is beyond overwhelming I love this small airport that's efficient, not crowded, well run. Their car rental companies are located on the zero floor and all the vehicles housed underground, well organized and easy to get out of the airport quickly. This has been my go-to, hassle free airport anytime I need to be in the LA area. read more

Pros: SNA is a smaller, regional airport. It's the closest commercial airport to Disneyland. Easy freeway access, so you'll get in and out quickly. TSA generally moves quickly, and checked baggage usually gets to the carousel without too much delay. Cons: Terminal C serves Southwest, Spirit (for the moment), and Frontier. Accordingly, there is no airport lounge nor any amenities beyond some basic options. No international flights. Skittish flyers should know that all flights at SNA follow special noise abatement procedures. In particular, engines ate throttled back as soon as you're airborne. It's normal. They'll throttle up again as soon as you clear the residential areas near the airport. For me, the convenience of using SNA outweighs its limitations. read more

SNA is my local airport and I love how small and efficient it is. With TSA precheck I basically just walk in through security with no wait. I'm here as one of the last passengers still doing the queue up system for Southwest since they are changing to assigned seats soon. read more

Small but mighty airport. It's a mere 15 minutes from Disneyland and really easy to navigate. We flew in on Thanksgiving afternoon and everything was closed but it was back to normal on Saturday. The rideshare pickup area was also easy to navigate. read more

First time flying out of John Wayne. So much easier than Ontario or LAX if you're in the OC or close by. Obviously not as busy as LAX, so it is a lot more relaxing flying out of this airport. Minimal traffic coming in and TSA was a breeze, if you have TSA pre check. Also, plenty of food options and some of the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen at an airport. Our flight was at 6:45am, but just an FYI, the Bag check for Southwest didn't open until 5:15. This will be my new go to airport. read more

This terminal is clean and convenient and has enough seating for all passengers. In a day when space is at a premium and big airports have done so much to add revenue to their bottom line that they have removed "too much," terminal seating space for the chance to sell something else - there is John Wayne Airport and Terminal C (the terminal where our family flies in/out for trips to the LA/Anaheim/Disney area). Way to go JWA Terminal C for keeping us comfy and letting us take a load off after all the walking at Disney and other parts in fabulous greater LA. read more

Checkpoint c smells so bad. There has been an obvious sewer issue for years and it's just getting worse

I haven't been to that many airports in the US, but in comparison to the ones I have been to, SNA is by far my favorite! I typically fly South West airlines and frequent terminal C. SNA airport is first class in my opinion. It's a very easy, safe and clean airport to navigate. Fun fact for anyone who has a disability or needs some help, they have a program called 'helping hands' with volunteers that help travelers with Autism, Anxiety, and more. Go online or give them a call and they'll make sure you or your travel party has all the required access to navigate the airport. Lastly, SNA has some great restaurant options. In Terminal C there are a few grab and go type spots, as well as a bar, Carls Jr, and then there's a food court that boarders terminal B and C. They usually either have live music or great music playing on the speakers. I find the staff to be friendly and while the airport isn't typically my favorite place, John Wayne is by far my favorite. You'll also find vibrant art lining the walls and some cool art features too. A+ read more

If you have to fly into this part of California this is the only way to do it. Easy and easy out easy rental cars and Uber pickup. Everyone working at the airport is ours have been super nice and there's good food choices. This airport has a nice layout and is very well lit with natural light. read more

This is probably my favorite airport in SoCal, and whenever I'm going to Disney or in the OC area, this is the best airport in my opinion. Pros: - Domestic only, which gives it a chill vibe. With TSA precheck, I don't get there until about an hour before my flight. - It's never "extremely busy" if you have precheck, but even without, I feel like the TSA staff are very efficient. - Terminal C (for Southwest) is very easy, clean bathrooms - Extremely easy to get an uber Tip: - if you're arriving, it's still easier to get picked up on the 2nd level in the "departure" area because there's fewer cars waiting around. read more

This is a very nice, organized airport. The signs are very easy to follow. I was dropping my friend off and she had no idea which terminal. The signage was big enough and it helped since it was so easy yo find. read more

John, at Southwests Skycap services, is incredible. A few months ago, he saw me struggling with my bags and kids while hubby had to do return the rental car. I didn't use the skycap services back then, but he still helped me out of the goodness of his heart. Fast forward to tonight, we're late and I needed to use skycap. I remembered John and his kind help from a few months ago and he remembered me. Before I could even ask, he had printed off everything I needed, got me the extra seat I needed, and was so incredibly kind. John is the gem of John Wayne Airport. 4 stars but probably my least favorite terminal at John Wayne Airport. First of all, because it's terminal C, behind terminal A and B, it's the farthest from the entrance. The departing area only has 2 lanes so sometimes it takes a while to get through. Also, because terminal C has Spirit, Frontier, and Southwest, I feel the TSA lines are always the longest. Once inside, terminal A and B has a McDonald but terminal C has a Carl's JR instead. Overall, there are plenty of seats in terminal C. It's my least favorite terminal here but it's very comfortable. read more

John Wayne terminal C handles mostly Southwest airlines which is what we used for our Anaheim trip. The area is small and easy to get around. TSA is not far from bag drop and although a bit lengthy still an easy walk to our gate. Since this is a smaller airport flights are not usually held up on the take off area. It is very clean and well kept. They have food and gift shops available. Consider flying here if you want to avoid the congestion of LAX. read more

Ah Terminal C... my home away from home. It's so easy here (especially with TSA Precheck) to be in and out of security and on your way to your gate. The Southwest terminal is fairly small with about 25 or so gates, but you're out right in the middle with security so it's not really a long walk ever. They have several wall plugs that actually seem to work, so that's amazing because so often at airports they are broken. This terminal also has nice little cubbies to sit in and charge, spread out and possibly conduct a quick meeting! Overall it's usually a very enjoyable experience here. read more

I love SNA. This is one of the easiest airports to fly out of and is always clean. Traffic flow inside the terminal is pretty constant but they've done a good job at expanding to ensure it's never "packed". There are good offerings for food, clean bathrooms and the temperature is often comfortable. Security is very simple also, getting in and out is a breeze with lines easily 50-70% shorter than other regional airports. Add pre check and you may end up getting though in as little as 5 minutes! One of the only unique variables is flying into John Wayne. When you get here, if you're taking a ride share platform like Uber, the pickup zone is very bizarre. They located the pickup in a parking structure meaning that the drivers have to zig zag through a maze for 5 minutes just to exit. It's also a bit of a haul when you're on foot. My recommendation to anyone flying in, and needing a ride- is to go to Terminal B or A for pickup from Uber or other ride services, which are way more conveniently located. read more

This is my 2nd "go to" airport in the area (right after LB airport). I love how easy and stress free it is to fly in and out of here (I've only parked here once and it was easy, convenient, and price wasn't bad, either). Security is pretty close to the check in counters and stress free as well to go through. As far as dining is concerned, not too many choices but it appears that they are adding a couple more restaurants to their current mix. Employees seemed fairly reserved and relaxed so that is another plus. About the only thing I don't like is traveling south on the 405 and having to merge across to the airport exit, but that's not the airport's fault lol. read more

Picking up and dropping off is pretty stress free at this airport. The only thing that you'll want to make sure you have ample time for is the TSA check line. I arrived at the airport the Monday before Thanksgiving and had to stand in a pretty long line for ID and security check. The pre-TSA line was shorter, but also kind of long. The x-ray check took longer than most other airports I've been to and one of my bags had to be hand checked on top of the long wait. Luckily, I was in no rush to get to my gate. The airport was semi-busy, but clean and easy to navigate my way around. I would consider flying in and out of SNA in the future. P.S. My friend told me that her Kangen water would be allowed for me to bring on the plane, but when I asked an employee they said I needed a doctor letter / medical certificate in order for them to test the water? I'm not sure if I inquired about it in the right way, but I was not allowed to bring it with me so I drank it instead. read more

Was my first time flying into and flying from this airport. Had a three hour layover before getting to my final location. More of a smaller airport not really as crowded although I was here around the 9 AM hour. There are fewer options here for eating but they do have some thing similar to a Mel's diner which I think was called Rubys diner. So I had breakfast their food was OK service the same. The one nice thing that this airport has is a grand piano that is available for the public to play so it was a joy seeing a handful of kids sit down at the piano and take a play at the keys. it was also nice just being in an airport and being able to walk so freely without being shoulder to shoulder or elbow elbow or suitcase to suitcase with so many other individuals trying to get to their destination. read more

The terminals aren't bad, they're awesome if you compare them to SeaTac and LAX. Checking in is easy, TSA isn't bad, sometimes the lines are long, but I've only seen that early in the morning. If you plan ahead and show up at 6, you can beat the line that backs up at 6:30. Parking, the unloading areas, the baggage claim, all of that is set up pretty good as well. While the airport is getting a dated, it's not run down inside. The food availability starts before the first flights will start boarding, so that's a plus. The roads around the airport, OMG that is a joke. It was set up by a toddler and the signage by his baby brother. Inevitably you can easily end up the wrong lane, which isn't a big deal except some lanes then dump you on your way to the 55. The only way to get back is get off on McArthur and loop back around. Other lanes dump you onto streets that don't lead to the freeway. And by the time you find out, there are 3 cars behind you and 15 in the lane you need to be in. Waze can make things worse if it misdetects exactly where you are or your phone is too slow. If this is your first time, I highly suggest showing up 10 minutes earlier than you planned and do a loop around the airport because by the time you see a sign, it's probably too late to move to the correctly lane. But! Compared to LAX, SNA is near perfect. The horseshoe at LAX is a better setup for driving, but it can't handle the volume. LAX was only good for a short while after they put in the second deck. Considering the cost of parking, driving, and the length of the TSA lines, you might think about flying from SNA to LAX to connect to your next international flight! read more
