I have been coming to here for years and I'm just now getting around to review it. The food and drinks are great and reasonably priced. The only problem I have is they have another brand of soda which is not Coke or Pepsi and it's lot labeled so when you order something expecting the taste or traditional soda it is disappointing. We ate outside as the weather was pleasant. The server (forgot her name) was very attentive and checked on us several times (a bonus as too many times servers drop off your food and never come back). We got fried pickles as an appetizer. I was pleasantly surprised - I am not a huge pickle fan and hubby wanted to get something to snack on right away. He got a beef sandwich that had peppers on it . He really enjoyed it but it was really a knife and fork sandwich - which he found out quickly after trying to pick it up and eat it. I got hamburger sliders and enjoyed them. I really liked how the buns were grilled so they did not get soggy when the burgers were placed on them. I would definitely come back! read more

I've had take out from this location a few times but today my daughter and I ate in! Great experience!! Most important is that we had my 17 month old Grandson with us and he was just as welcomed as we were. High chair bright immediately and he was kept busy by all the TVs. Of course they all had sports on! We were waited on right away and served quickly. We had the buffalo cauliflower as an app. Very tasty. My daughter had the fish and chips and I had the Chicken and Brussels Wrap. That wrap is very different and it was great!! One sad thing is that they have taken sweet potato tots and fries off the menu!!! Why???? Our waitress was so fantastic!! Her name was Savannah and she was so helpful and friendly! Generally don't leave reviews as I've worked in a restaurant for 10 years and understand the rush and being ready to go home but sitting at the bar 30 minutes before last call for food and not being asked to see a menu, then finishing my drink and after 25-30 minutes not being checked on or asked if food was going to be ordered, and the kitchen closing, that's where I draw the line of horrible service from the bartender. Finally! Another food chapter on the Roadtrip to the Parental Units! Honestly, I was headed for a different restaurant. Google Maps had me criss-crossing all over town, so I'm not surprised. However, it might have been fate that brought me to Johnny Black's Public House. Who am I to question? The patio space looked really nice, but the weather was in typical Michigan-mode, unsure if it wanted to rain or not. I stepped inside and moseyed myself to the bar. The bartender was already cleaning the spot in front of me and greeted me warmly. After a quick chat I ordered a tall Atwater Dirty Blonde (local brew) while she fetched the menu. The choices were too numerous to mention. I looked around but it was after lunch and I didn't see any plates for ideas. I decided to stick with the fish theme and ordered the grilled cod tacos. They arrived quickly and MAN, they were huge! See that picture? That's not a load of cabbage, my friends. These babies were loaded with fish, to the point that I made a mess and darn near wore my lunch. They tasted so good, I had to eat them all (though I was surprised that I finished them). The bartender checked on me a few times and was friendly to everyone around me, calling most folks by name. I can see why the regulars hang around here. We went to Johnny Black's this past Saturday night. The bar was pretty busy but there were plenty of open tables for us to pick from. We sat ourselves, which is fine, but it took about 20 minutes for anyone to come by to give us menus/take our drink orders. I normally wouldn't be too bothered by this but it didn't seem like they were short staffed and I made awkward eye contact with plenty of servers before anyone even came by to help us. We split a Detroit style pizza which was pretty good and they gave us plenty of ranch on the side. The only issue was that we had ordered roasted red peppers as a topping and we got red onions instead. I think this was the kitchen's fault since the bill did say red peppers once we got it back. The pizza was still good though and the garlic crust was delicious. It wasn't big enough of an issue for us to have to send it back or anything. Like I said, the bar was pretty packed and a few of the patrons were getting pretty rowdy, yelling across the bar and such. But that's what you should expect from a bar on a Saturday night so it depends on what kind of place you're looking for I guess! Overall, food was good. Service was mid. We didn't get napkins with our pizza and had to flag down our server to ask for some because he was going to keep going past us without checking in. This is always a good place that has something for everyone. The food always hits and I love how open it is in there. The staff is always helpful and attentive. The service and food was terrible. Cute Dylan's looks didn't match his his level of skills. My medium rare steak was never more cooked both times and the crusted chicken that my friend ordered only was crusted for the eye to see and when sent back was the only thing reheating on the cold plate . The flies ate more than we did. The manager who clearly was nervous for no reason other than potentially the thought of my skin tone did let us have the meal for free had just reached adulthood but my drink was tasty however we are still minty fresh from the mojito my friend ordered from the saddest most antisocial bartender I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. I ordered the spinach dip and a chicken Caesar wrap. Both dishes were pretty good and satisfying. The spinach dip was creamy and well-seasoned, making it a great starter. The chicken Caesar wrap was fresh and flavorful, with a nice balance of ingredients. Mediocre bar food Our food took 45 minutes on a Monday night and they didn't look particularly busy. Burger was pretty small, missing the onion aioli, and my parm garlic fries were cold. The birra grilled cheese was burnt to a crisp, we got it remade and the coating on the toast was still burnt. Would not recommend. The filet was also burnt and I asked for med well. Unfortunately there are barely any vegan options, even the impossible burger is not vegan since the bun contains dairy. This is our 2nd time at this location. The first time we had a great experience and the food was good (1 year ago). Today, however, we were greeted by a very rude and bratty young lady with pig tails and half of her body bulging out of her top. We asked to see if we can sit outside and she literally huffed and told us to follow her (very rudely)... as we approached the table we asked if we can open up the umbrella and she gave us the biggest attitude, snarled and opened the umbrella only 1/2 way. I told her it's fine we can do it and she's like "No, I will" and after opening it up half way just darted off. I'm sorry if you're the front face of this establishment and you act like you don't want to work there then you shouldn't. You're hurting the others that are trying to make a living at this place. Eventually, It got so windy and our server who was a nice young lady helped us move our meal inside. Okay, so where do I start? Stopped by on a whim while driving by. Looks nice from the outside, good patio with outdoor seating for those nice days, granted the road makes A TON of noise. Ordered the "prickly pear". Maybe had 1/2oz of tequila, probably the most under flavored weakest drink I've had in a very long time. Was kind of a joke to be honest. All the food is frozen/ reheated. Their "calamari" is some sort of flavored battered fish paste. Literally the furthest things from calamari as possible. At least say you're not serving real squid instead of pretending it's something it's not. Nachos were 3/5, toppings just okay, but chips were stale. Caesar salad lettuce was turning brown already. If you're not going to chop your own lettuce, at least make sure it's not a week old... Fried pickles were mediocre. Okay but nothing to write home about. Service okay. Nice staff, seat yourself, plenty of tables. Overall, if you're looking for very average food in an okay, but noisy setting, it works. We went for lunch and I got the baked Mac and cheese with BBQ pulled pork. This is probably the best Mac and cheese I've ever had. The penne pasta was tender, the cheese was flavorful and the Panko crust added the perfect amount of crunch. The bar is packed they're all lined up, it's really not a bad place, leather high-back swivel chairs, a nice Long bar, pretty good service. Food is average, prices are kind of high the menu is pretty lame, cranking that Waterford country crap, yeah a lot pp like it, what the heck I kind of like it. Johnny Black's always impresses! Been to the other locations and this location is just as good. Came in on a Saturday night around 830p. Parking was a little packed and the inside was decently busy. We were seated right away and sat in the booths which are on a raised stage - so good views of the restaurant. Place was clean. Tons of TVs - Red Wings, Pistons, and a couple other sports were on. Wait staff was awesome - our waitress was friendly and attentive. She was honest too about menu options that she liked better than others. She split up our checks without us asking - which was appreciated. The food runners were polite and friendly. Great drink menu! Tons of wine, beer, and cocktails. I asked for a Fitzgerald and the bartenders had to look up what was in it - so when our waitress came back with drinks she asked for me to try it. It was a bit too bittery and she was fine taking the drink back and apologized. I then went with an Old Fashioned and it was great. Food options are endless and have a little bit of everything for everyone. Salads, sandwiches, entrees, small plates, and great sides. Do yourself a favor and get the corn chowder soup - wow! Such great flavor, chunky, and rich. One of the best things on the menu. Two of us went with the Filet Mignon Sliders and two of us went with chicken wings. Everyone loved their food. My only complaint about the sliders was it was a bit dry - needed some sauce or more of it. But very flavorful and the fries are so good - they are shoestring and crunchy.
