Two ways to enter the restaurant but if you enter on the bar side then be sure to go to the other entrance where the hostess stand is at. Inside is welcoming and airy with tall ceilings. Bathrooms are tucked away by the kitchen. Staff are friendly and attentive. Inside has two dining experiences with one side having the long bar and the other backing up to the kitchen. Lots of menu options! Kids menu is on the normal menu as well. Everything is good! From pierogi, kid's grilled cheese, sandwiches, salads you name it. Never had a bad meal. This restaurant changes through the day but always delivers. Mornings are breakfast and it feels like an old school diner. Lunch and dinner bring out a great menu with plenty of options, though a few more gluten-free items would be nice. Late night, it is a cool bar with DJs on the weekends. read more

Came here for brunch and loved it. We ordered from their seasonal menu. Which included pineapple upside down pancakes that O have to say we're amazing! Tasted just like a cake, moist, didn't need syrup but not too sweet, perfection in a pancake! I also got the sweet potatoes skillet that had ground chorizo with bite size sweet potato, peppers, a Sunnyside egg on top & avocado slices. Oh so delicious and flavorful. I used to love this place. But recently has been going downhill. Service is slow, and ingredients have been poor. Ordered AM tacos, avocado "mouse" was black and sour, the pico was visibly old, and the salsa was room temp so you know has been sitting outside for a while. I got a replacement, but the eggs seem like they were cooked during the week and just reheated. Didn't taste bad, but you could tell not fresh. My husband, kid and I all got sick, we all order some kind of egg, which makes me think either the oil is old, the bacon was left out or IDK what is going on! Downtown staple Johnny Black's Lake House occupies what was CJ's and has established itself as a breakfast/lunch joint plus a hangout bar and restaurant all one. After feeding our souls at St. Joe's we set out for lunch after. As expected Johnny Black's was busy but not crazy and despise putting in for a table DJ and I initially waited at the bar and then ate at the bar. As the sun was over the yard arm DJ and I opted for something medicinal. A Deep Eddie's Limon for DJ, and I opted for a Bloody Mary. The Deep Eddies was fine as reported by DJ and my Bloody was good except for some hot rim spice that I wiped off. For food I had fried chicken and biscuits with gravy and DJ had the Victoria's Secret which was am omlett with mushrooms, onions and other veg. Both were excellent with mine being a particularly huge meal. The 5th star is missing as the service being a bit slow, with the bartender seemingly getting paid by the word with some customers. Nothing good to say. The Chicken Picante was terrible as was the Shrimp Bowl. Both were dry. The sauce on the picante was so thick, mashed potatoes were tasteless and lumpy. The shrimp bowl had no sauce on it and I had to ask for the broccoli that was supposed to come with it. The asparagus that came with the picante was the best part of the meal. Chicken picante was the worst I ever had, not an artichoke to be found. Will not return. read more

Actually chose it via other great Yelp reviews when we were headed to a different restaurant we used to like that was nearby, but closed. So I looked up alternatives and this was the winner. And we won too. Tried the square Detroit style margherita pizza and Mitch said his new favorite! I had the grilled chicken sandwich and side salad with ranch. Nothing unusual but tasty. Nicely sized garden side salad with ranch for just $2 instead of chips. Crazy how we found it, but have a new fun spot to eat. I love the comfy bar seats!!! I got this super amazing white sangria... omg it's like a peachy refreshing winey fruity yummyness. We also got some frickles - spicy dip, cooked well, crispy, it hit the spot. I love the atmosphere, it's a little different than the one on dixie but still had the tv screens up for sports lovers. When I asked my 8yo if Johnny Black's deserved five stars, he said "100%". We love it here and have nothing bad to say. The service is friendly and we feel right at home. I like that one side of the restaurant has the bar and is darker, while the other side is brighter and feels more like a diner. On the weekends, get there early if you don't want a wait. We haven't had a bad breakfast yet, and my favorite is the breakfast sandwich. Breakfast options for our one kid with an egg allergy are quite limited (as they are nearly everywhere), but between potatoes, meat, and cinnamon toast, he always ends up full. This is our favorite downtown LO restaurant, and it's super cool that we can bike here from our house without crossing major roads. read more

It can be hard trying to find places to eat as a vegetarian but they had a pretty good selection, and many items could be make without meat!
