Customer service was still great, but I noticed a few changes that took away from the experience for us personally. I do like that the tastings are no longer in the plastic tubes, although the tubes did feel like they held a little more wine. What we didn't enjoy was that when multiple people ordered the same tastings, they were placed into the same shared glass/container. In our party of four, three of us had the same six tastings and had to share. I appreciated the bow on the glass showing the pours, but I preferred the previous setup where everyone had their own individual tastings. It may seem small, and thankfully our group was fine sharing, but it made the experience feel less personal and honestly made us less interested in doing tastings again on future visits. Some people also may not feel comfortable sharing containers or touching the same glass. Nothing terrible at all, just some feedback from longtime visitors who loved how it used to be. On this visit we actually ended up ordering a bottle afterward instead, and moving forward we'll probably just continue doing that rather than the tastings.

My son decided on the Anatra Pan-seared duck breast which came with mashed potatoes and a red cabbage. We ordered sides of Roasted Potatoes and their mixed vegetable blend! We ordered several wines and soft drinks to accompany our dinners. For food, we ordered a few things including the Cesare salad, Tortelli, scallops, seafood pasta, lamb shank, mushrooms, and one other special. Everything was ok, but nothing was particularly remarkable or interesting. All the food was well-prepared and the lamb was tender. The Cesare salad was good and so were the scallops. I wouldn't get the Tortelli again, it was plain. The service was poor. We had to flag the server down a few times. She didn't check in with us throughout the meal. My friend didn't like her cocktail and asked for a new menu and she ordered another drink. We didn't make a fuss and the server didn't ask about the full cocktail that she took away. I don't expect them to comp the drink, but the server should have at least asked what was wrong or why she didn't like it. Feedback is important and she didn't seem to want any. I expected better service at this restaurant, which is supposed to be one of the better restaurants in Ojai. Overall, I'd recommend going elsewhere if you're in town. The food was good, but nothing special and there are other great restaurants that are more affordable, with better service.

This visit was actually to celebrate my birthday. We were slightly hesitant because of the set course menu, not knowing if we'd like the offerings and leery of the value. Let me put this to rest right of the bat, it was totally worth it. We left very satisfied with both the offerings and the portion sizes. We were seated promptly and were immediately greeted by Alana who was our server. She was warm and knowledgeable, friendly yet professional, attentive but never intrusive. I had notified the restaurant during the reservation process that I needed to avoid onion and garlic because I get intense reflux. Alana confirmed this before we began discussing the courses. She assured me that she would guide me away from offerings that would upset my system. There are actually 6 courses, not just the 4 on the menu. They bring an amuse-bouche and then bread to start, before the first course. I won't get deeply into our courses because the menu changes daily, but there were a couple of things we were told that are often on the menu that were soooo good. For the pasta course, both the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe and the Rigatoni Bolognese were phenomenal. We both had different fish offerings for our main course which were excellent as well. We were so impressed with Alana that I asked to speak to the manager on our way out to express our gratitude. I feel that so often people only speak to management to complain, so when we receive exceptional service, I feel it's important to express appreciation.

Which was a perfect bite to start the meal off while we enjoyed our cocktails. My girlfriend and I each ordered an appetizer, pasta course, and entree. Each of which came out within a reasonable time of each other to enjoy the food and have some time to discuss the course. Also enough time to build up anticipation for the next course! Our server Keegan was super knowledgeable about all of the items on the menu and was able to accommodate my girlfriend's dietary restrictions. Additionally he gave me the perfect recommendation for a glass of wine to accompany my pasta course! For me the highlights were the Rigatoni Bolognese, The Elders cocktail, and the Pacific White Prawns (unfortunately not pictured). Highly recommend to anyone looking to have a special night out.

We settled in with a couple glasses of Raywood Cabernet Sauvignon while we waited for dessert. Looking around, it was easy to see why this place has become such a local favorite. The red-and-white checkered tablecloths, vintage family photos, and easygoing atmosphere make Boccali's feel like it's been woven into the community for decades. When the strawberry shortcake arrived, it was immediately clear why people make the drive. Fresh strawberries are piled generously over a warm shortcake and topped with an enormous cloud of fresh whipped cream. The contrast between the warm shortcake, cool whipped cream, and fresh berries made every bite memorable. Despite its impressive size, it never felt overly heavy. Boccali's has been serving this seasonal favorite since opening in 1986, and it's easy to see why it has become their signature dessert. One thing I especially appreciated is that it's only available during strawberry season. Knowing I was enjoying something that isn't on the menu year-round made the experience feel even more special. The next time I'm in Ojai, I'll know exactly where I'm going for dessert.
