Most importantly, this is a pure winery, which is beyond organic, which is an added plus. It is absolute perfection! Josh was very knowledgeable. He's an Ojai local with a kind calming demeanor. He spun some vinyl, gave us some tips about Ojai, and poured our wine. I loved how he gave us alone time to sit with each other and really taste the wine instead of talking over every sip and trying to sell us what to think. I like white wine, but I cannot drink it because it always makes me slightly nauseous, but Josh assured me that this white wine would not do that. I could tell the minute I smelled it that I was going to be fine. Instead of that stainless steel I smell in white wines, I could smell fruits and florals. I've had organic wines in the past, but this winery goes way beyond that. The Naturalist is a pure winery, and that is quite rare in California. I had a hard time choosing my favorites, so I joined the club and I figured they could pick which four they'd like to send me every season. Josh said It is a very flexible club, so we were quick to join. Joining is free, deferring shipments is an option, and changing the wine choice to also, however you wish. I would not take my advice on if wine tastes good. I have no idea what I'm tasting or drinking or what to look for in terms of notes. I only did a wine tasting here to burn time but a lot of the wines that were in the tasting were extremely harsh, unripe, sour... a lot of hard to drink wines. Even when we were being served, not too much information was given about the wine other than being served that. The only good thing about low/no sulfite wines is that you don't get a headache after or even while drinking it, you don't have this headache that bothers you. read more

The Naturalist is a tasting room in downtown Ojai. They offer a selection of wines produced with organic grapes grown in the Santa Ynez valley. Their wines are produced in their winery located a few miles from Ojai. I had a glass of their red blend, my wife had a glass of their Cabernet Sauvignon; both wines were quite good. I just wish they would sell some snack food items! Bottom line, this is a laid back tasting venue offering wines by the glass or tastings for a very reasonable price. read more

I wanna a bit headstand to try this place because I hadn't tried an organic wine that I loved. This tasting room Changed my mind. I loved every wine on their flight that they offered and even became a member, taking home 4 bottles. There Pinot Noir was so soft and subtle, their rosé was crisp and fresh without being too sweet or fruity. They had the back patio/alleyway open to the public and it was such a cool vibe back there. They even had a musical artist playing acoustic guitar and harmonica. Really jumped up the vibe. Highly recommend coming here. read more

Wine Tasting! This small place has a long bar and several tables. It has an inviting, comfortable feel to it. They had five wines to sample for $15. Compared to other wine tasting experiences I'd honestly have to say the pours here are on the small side. One person was working and serving about 10 people when we arrived. Before our first pour we requested some of the complimentary crackers as palate cleansers. They never came. So we ended up grabbing some "gourmet" crackers from the display shelf which were added to our bill. The server was pleasant and had the informational patter down as she poured each wine. I liked 4 of the 5 wines we tasted but not enough to purchase a bottle. Everything we tried was bottled 1-2 years ago and will most likely be better with a little more aging. One interesting thing about their wines - no sulfites are used. This is a relaxing place to come and enjoy some wine and conversation. 3.5 stars. read more

This is a cute tasting room in the middle of town, right next door to a popular ice cream place. We had planned on visiting since the other couple we were with bought a Groupon and hubby and I were going to take advantage of their 2 for 1 tasting. It wasn't as busy as we expected it to be but some of the ladies were preoccupied with the customers they already had so it took a few extra minutes for them to come help us out at the high top we snagged towards the rear of the room. Everyone was friendly, though one lady seemed sort of skeptical/suspicious of us and was quick to come and take away a bottle that she brought to show us. It had "NOT FOR SALE" all over it in silver marker but I guess she thought it still wasn't safe with us. Their wines weren't mind blowing in taste but I REALLY did appreciate the sulfite-free or no sulfite added aspect of them. A couple of us agreed we didn't get the usual fogginess in my heads after the tasting. If I drank more red wine, I would have loaded this stuff up by the case. We didn't end up buying anything but really did enjoy the hour we spent here. It didn't cost much and the wines didn't make us fuzzy! read more

If your visiting Ojai visiting come stop here for all your wine needs. The Tasting Room is currently closed, but you can still come in to buy wine and get all your wine needs. Casa Barranca has beautiful indoor seating with high tops and a long bar. The selection of wine paired with good company and a relaxing atmosphere is all you could ask for. With a caring owner who obviously loves what he does, to me, Casa Barranca youre breath taking. read more

My partner and i came here at the end of a lovely day bike riding, wine tasting, and walking around cute and quaint Ojai. The atmosphere was warm and cozy and seemed to take large steps to separate themselves from feeling too large or "corporate." The downside was the staff member seemed very uninterested in assisting us. I'm not sure if she assumed that people in their 20s were there to mess around or not buy, but she did the bare minimum in serving us, despite a nearly empty bar. There was a nice selection of wines and we did end up buying a bottle. read more

The tasting was expensive ($15), unless you buy 2 bottles and the tasting will be free. There are also coupons from hotels for 2 for 1 tastings. The wine was not good. We have had organic wine before but this did not impress. read more

Very convenient in mainstreet Ojai. Luckily, we parked in front! it is a great little space. Aaron took care of the wine presentation and my choice was a glass of Cab Franc. It was a wonderful red with that peppery finish. My guess is that the tasting room will grow in selections in the future. Options were limited to wine. A light board or an alternative to alcohol is needed. I loved the vibe and the wine was so great! read more

GROUPON EXPERIENCE! My husband and I decided to visit this place during our last day in Ojai. It is a quiet tasting room located right downtown. We love wine and were so excited for out first wine tasting. The groupon included tasting of about 4 different wines, and wine to go home with and a silver cork. The wine tender was extremely knowledgeable of the wine and didnt skimp with the servings. We also met some local people during our visit who gave us great recommendations for dinner that night. Overall, we were pleased with our tasting experience and would recommend buying to groupon for your trip to Ojai. Have fun! read more

I'm occasionally open to learning. During one of our brief getaways to Ojai, the inn we stayed at gave us a couple of coupons to try free wine flights at the local tasting room. We read on Yelp that Casa Barranca is a cheap way to get drunk fast and learn about wine while we were at it. That's all we needed to know. Located in downtown Ojai's arcade, the stylish tasting room is an off-site extension of a private estate and winery by the same name. We wanted to start our day off with a smile, so after sleeping in past noon, we strolled down the street for ice cream before changing our minds to check out the open tasting room instead. For most of our visit, we were the only patrons. Our coupons were for a Chef's Tasting, so we hopped up onto a couple of stools at the bar and allowed our hostess, Alysia, to do her thing and guide us through the process. She generously poured five different colors of organic wines, one at a time, briefly introducing and talking about each wine with enthusiasm and obvious pride. At the end of our pleasant flight, we were in just the right mood to purchase our favorite taste, a popular bottle from Alysia's last case of light and bright 2011 Pink Moment Roses, in a souvenir bag to go. We ended up enjoying the whole thing back in our room. Only the sticker, painstakingly peeled off the bottle, made it out of Ojai with us. Casa Baranca was the first official organic winery in the Santa Barbara area , in lay mans terms they do not use solvents, cleaners, pesticides, or herbicides. And the winery is solar powered. On my recent trip to Ojai I really wanted to check it out. Sadly, I didn't end up tasting any of their wines. They don't have a tasting room. Their wine is available in town, not on site. Not to mention, it was 11 am and I didn't have it in me to drink anyway, but I was hoping to bring a bottle back. The website made the winery look small, yet rustic, lush and beautiful, which was exactly what it was. My friends and I exited Foothill Ave to find ourselves on a gravel road lined with trees. The winery was quiet and empty. (The season hasn't started.) I had my friends snap a few photos of me holding grapes and then we took off. I thought the winery was gorgeous albeit bite sized. The main house which is a tasteful old craftsman surrounded by gardens, would be an ideal location for a small event like an anniversary party or wedding. read more

We came here on Saturday February 13th mostly because we were Interested in the Casa Barranca Estate and thought it would be cool to try the wine. There was not any open tables so Sam asked us to come back in 20 minutes, Or he would call if something opened. No problem! We went looking through some shops and came back after 20. The other guy seated us and said he would bring us a menu. Sam stopped by after quite awhile and we said "the other guy" is bringing us a menu and he asked if we just wanted a tasting. We said sure! The tastings were brought out with menu . They had a duo musical group that was lovely and fun to listen to. When we finished the tasting the other guy came by and asked if we needed anything I said a water would be great. He brought back our water and said" there is another couple waiting for your table and we would appreciate it if you would leave! With a hand sweeping motion like get out!! I said are you serious and he said yes. We spent 30.00 !! We will never go back to the tasting room. We are considering renting the Estate for our vow renewal but did not like the tasting room. Our second stop for the day. So glad we ended our day here. We ended up staying way after closing time. The vibe here is definitely way more chill. The whole place was crowded when we got there. I loved every single wine I was served. My friend and I started off at the bar then moved to the couch by the entrance towards the end. I loved the couch area because when people came in or left, I got a whiff of the whatever was happening at the ice cream shop right next door. It was actually a little bit of a bummer that the door had to be kept closed the whole time. Sam was awesome. He was very friendly and personable. The best part was he was so easy to talk to. We didn't get to interact with Andy as much, but he was also super nice. The people while we were there were a fun bunch. I ended up making friends with an Indian mother/daughter visiting from Mumbai. I ended up giving them a bunch of food recommendations. My friend ended up at the bar making friends with the other folks. Best of all, I didn't have to pay because my friend bought 2 bottles. I highly recommend this place. This is a nice place to stop in for a wine tasting. The vibe is mellow, and our server was friendly. They also have some cute trinkets for sale. I liked the wines at Ojai Tasting Room a little more, though. FYI, pick up a coupon book outside (just down the strip), and you can get a 2 for 1 tasting. read more

We did a tasting here today and I had a great time. I'm not sure the name of the gentleman who helped us but he overheard us discussing a general question we had about the differences between two varieties of wine and he walked over to explain to us, which I thought was nice. There was a sweet friendly dog there with him. I liked all the wines and it was a warm, friendly atmosphere. read more

Sat inside at bar both servers were nice, but too busy to really engage. They found time when asked questions and were informed and engaging. Wine is sulfite free so different, but really good and well priced. Lost a star because outside setting is spartan. Needs some TLC. read more

Established in 2002.

The Naturalist is nestled in the Ojai Valley est of Santa Barbara. The Naturalist, (formerly known as Casa Barranca) was the first Certified Organic Winery and Vineyard in California's central coast wine region. We handcraft our wine from organic, bio-dynamic, and sustainably farmed grapes. As a "green" winery we employ responsible wine making practices without the use of toxic solvents or cleaners. No pesticides or chemicals are used in our vineyards, our winery is solar powered, our water comes from an nature spring and Italian honeybees sweeten our day.

In our party of four, three of us had the same six tastings and had to share. I appreciated the bow on the glass showing the pours, but I preferred the previous setup where everyone had their own individual tastings. It may seem small, and thankfully our group was fine sharing, but it made the experience feel less personal and honestly made us less interested in doing tastings again on future visits. Some people also may not feel comfortable sharing containers or touching the same glass. Nothing terrible at all, just some feedback from longtime visitors who loved how it used to be. On this visit we actually ended up ordering a bottle afterward instead, and moving forward we'll probably just continue doing that rather than the tastings.

My husband did the $19 four wine pour tasting and I did the $36 Full Monte pouring of their entire eight wine tasting. I enjoyed my first Grüner Veltliner white wine, 2024 Grunay (a hint of sweetness yet still crisp to the tongue and a light body). I also enjoyed their Tempranillo red wine, 2023 Taransay (well balanced medium body, slightly on the drier side but not too much, and had some nice tannins), this is the full glass I ordered after the tasting. I was not a fan of the 2021 Soay (Red Blend of 70% Granache, 15% Petit Verdot and 15% Petit Syrah) - I really wanted to like it as I typically like this blend, however there was a strange aftertaste that reminded me of water that was rinsed in dried rice. From 4PM - 6PM on Saturdays and Sundays, there is a local musician. Today was a singer-songwriter who played both acoustic and electric guitar and was accompanied by a lovely bass guitar player. They performed a few lighter versions of rock music and a handful of originals. Overall, great value and good music.

Tour included about 10-12 people total and was completely free (!!) in hopes of attendees buying wine bottles at the end (which was fairly priced and very good - our group of 3 got 4 bottles for $120 total.) The owners are celebrating the lost art of breaking bread and sharing time and stories with strangers over wine - felt like something that you'd find in Italy. I didn't really know what to expect since there weren't a ton of reviews for this, but my group (2 adult sisters + our mom) really loved the concept of this entire experience. It's not a typical wine tasting where they give you 5 wines and leave you be at a table, so wouldn't go here if that's what you're looking for. But if you're looking for a unique, less touristy experience, this is an amazing place to learn more about the history of wine in the region directly from wine-makers, stroll around a beautiful vineyard, and connect with others in Ojai enjoying the same things. I also wanted something to snack on while drinking the wine. She said they have a charcuterie board. I actually really liked the little charcuterie boards and the contents. The cheeses were delicious! I love the rustic vibe of the seating area. It was really cute and had a beautiful ambiance with the farmland and big oak trees.

It gives you the freedom to taste everything at your own pace. You order the tasting first, then they give you a tray with delicious sourdough bread from a local bakery. The staff explained that the balsamic vinegars are imported, while all of their olive oils are produced in-house, except for the truffle oil since the local soil isn't suitable for growing truffles. After that, you head over to the tasting section where you can grab samplers of the olive oils and balsamic vinegars before finding a seat outside under the olive trees. The space itself is beautiful and peaceful. There were around 10 olive oils and 10 balsamic vinegars to try. My favorites were the TH (Tuscan Herbs) olive oil and the traditional balsamic. The flavored balsamics were interesting and fun to taste, though I still personally preferred the classic options. Overall, such a fun and worthwhile stop if you're in the Ojai area. Paid $20 for two people. Also, bonus points because they happily give extra sourdough bread if you need more :)

Based on this, wife, dog and I made a three hour drive to the tasting room. Once there, staff stated tastings were paused due to permit issues for an indefinite time. Business and Professions Code 17500 prohibits false advertising to induce the public to patron businesses. Common sense and decency prohibits this. Staff offered ten percent off products and a voucher for future tasting visits. Staff stated customers should have called before arriving to confirm the website was accurate and that they had no responsibility. Staff was rude. No apologies just a stoic attitude with flippant responses. I purchased products without a tasting that was promised. Please update your website immediately. General public is being harmed. Incredibly disappointing experience.

I knew Ojai was famous for its olive oils, but Carolina especially embodies mastery and craftsmanship as reflected in her offerings of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. As I was the only patron in her shop at the time, I was privileged with her showing me various unique combinations of balsamic and olive oil. She certainly lives up to the Italian stereotype of having good taste. She suggested against me buying food for my mother for Mother's Day, but she understood when I insisted that my mom is a foodie (where I get it from). Carolina herself is classy and refined, yet still so open and welcoming, all of which also is reflected in her store. It is thus no surprise that her shop has been around for over a decade. I hope her shop is there when I am 100! If there was ever a place to stop in Ojai, I would recommend this place. A truly unique experience, unparalleled. I am bringing my mom and all my other loved ones here.
