We hadn't ever been here together before. It does allow smoking. And kitchen closes at 8 (or so). Two pool tables and only $1.00 a game. It's bigger than I thought. The bar is long. Nicky was a nice bartender. Didn't seem sketchy at all and the bathrooms were clean. The atm and credit card machine went down while we were there. But eventually they were restored. We enjoyed it overall. There aren't a lot of pool tables around and it was nice they had two. I would go back. It wasn't as smoky as I thought it would be and the people there seemed nice. read more

I have never been to Johnny joes ! I went there for the first time , that place was the filthy place ever been into , the bar and the floor looks like it's never been cleaned in years . So sad I wanted to eat there , when I seen how dirty the place was I kept thinking how dirty the kitchen was . Hire someone to clean the place . This place at one time was the worst dive bar in the area. They have keep that . Smokey,dirty, run down etc. if you like this type place you should be happy here. I wouldn't waste my time because the prior comments speaks volumes and are spot on! Today's date is 1/27/2017 I just read ABC27 report on Local Restaurants. The report is as follows as per Harrisburg Department of Agriculture Inspectors. "Johnny Joe's Sports Bar and Grill in Mechanicsburg was out of compliance for the third time in less than a year, this time with 12 violations. The inspection report says the person in charge does not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. There was a buildup of pink residue in the nozzles on the soda guns in the bar, the facility doesn't have test strips to make sure the sanitizer is strong enough to sanitize but not so strong that it contaminates food, and there was an accumulation of food debris, residue, and static dust". read more

Terrible waiters. The whole family thing going on there makes them very unpleasant. Dakota, a bartender was in a sour mood and call my girlfriend a piece of shit because I made a light hearted joke. Can't take light jokes, don't be a bartender. I also have a friend that worked there and warned me to NEVER eat food there. For how dirty and disgusting their kitchen is. My band Honkey Kong played this bar May 2011....we had a great time. There was a good variety of people and it was pretty packed, but not too stuffy. The people there welcomed us and we had a blast! I will definitely be coming back to rock. They had a good selection of beers and the buffalo chicken pizza was off the hook.....I have been thinking about it for the last day or so...sooooo good! They had a few pool tables, and booths to eat, and tons of seating at the bar. I wouldn't say this was a dive bar at all (not that dive bars are bad...) but a sports bar with some flavor! read more

I don't normally write reviews, but my experience at Johnny Joes can't go without saying. I'm a 3rd shift worker and like the fact they open at 7am, however Al the bartender has to be the rudest, most unfriendly bartender I have ever seen. I feel bad for the management, and the other staff that Al represents the establishment so incredibly poorly. I'm sure I'm not the first to complain about him. Looks like other people have had good experiences there, but I would strongly advise that you don't visit Johnny Joes until the afternoon, after Al leaves for the day. Well, I used to go every Tuesday night for poker and karaoke with Dave the best DJ in PA. Over the years the bar gets progressively worse. There is a review on the Internet about a health inspection conducted by the state, it's kinda gross. No soap in the kitchen, no sanitizer in the dishwasher. It took them 2 years to replace a broken leaking toilet, and when they finally did 2 months ago the door came off the hinges and was never replaced. Also Used glasses in the drinking ice. But last night was the final straw. I will never go back there again. Not cool for the owners to hang out there all the time drinking and smoking pipes at the bar, maybe if they were polite but on several occasions rude, in fact they are just filthy over weight scum. One of the owners backed over my motorcycle in the parking lot, no he said to me I didn't even see it I just kept backing until someone yelled at me to stop. I will be looking for a new poker night else where, and a new bike! read more

I was there for 30 minutes, and walked out with lung cancer. It was karaoke night and they had a smoke machine ... the 10 people with cigarettes surrounding me. If your looking for a bar where you can still smoke, you'll love it. Don't forget the Visine though. read more

Which from the size of the place, you wouldn't think it would be bad...it is, guessing poor ventilation, but last visit, I (being a social smoker) couldn't take it much past an hour. The place is a dump in my book. the bartenders seemed to only take care of who they wanted to. The smell of cigarettes was enough to burn my eyes out of my head. the mens room was broke so you had to share the ladies room and i seen a port a pottie that looked cleaner then the bathroom. i will never go back there. i do not recommend going there to anyone read more

i stopped into Johnny Joes for a drink. I had one rum and coke for $4.50. i used my debit card to pay for it and signed the slip for a purchase of $4.50 plus a $1.00 tip, a total of $5.50. When I checked my account on line $15.50 was debited from my account. I of course had thrown away my receipt but went to my bank anyway. I couldn't file a reg E b/c I didn't have my receipt. Per the manager at my bank he said he sees this alot. His advice, I had to close my debit card and reorder another one. He said to always use cash and only $5.00 bills at a time. Lesson learned. Some bars have people with some class and honesty that work there and then you have this bar :( read more

I went to Johnny Joe's on May 14th. I received my receipt, $56.07. I tip our bartender $6.00. The total amount is 62.07. On the 19th I checked my statement and noticed a transaction for $118.14 came out of my account from Johnny Joe's. I checked the receipt and noticed the bartender tipped herself $62.07!!! She entered bill = 56.07, tip = 62.07, totaling $118.14. When it should have been bill = $56.07, tip = $6.00, totaling $62.07. I called on the 19th asking for the manager, they stated he'll be in "tomorrow". When tomorrow came, the 20th, I called again to make sure the manager will be there. They stated, "yes, he'll be here this evening, it's his shift". After work around 5:30 PM, I went straight to Johnny Joe's. I walked in and asked for the manager. The bartender informed me he was off that night bc he has his son. (THIS IS THE SAME BARTENDER THAT WAS OUR BARTENDER THE NIGHT OF THE 14TH THAT CHARGED ME $118.14) I informed her I called yesterday, was told he'll be in today and even confirm this morning if he'll be in and they said yes. I showed her my receipt/statement and asked for the cell phone number of the manager. She said "He's actually my boyfriend so I'll call him on my cell phone". She called him and she informed him of the situation. She gave me the difference back. I felt they should have done more. So I asked for the tip back. The crazy part isn't because she the girlfriend of the manager and the bartender that charged extra on my card. But she stated "IVE DONE THIS SO MANY TIMES BEFORE"........how many other people doesn't know they've been charged extra?? When I called on the 19th, the guy stated "this does not happen often"...why is she telling me it does? IT IS ON THE NEWS THAT WAITRESSES ARE BEING CHARGED FOR STEALING CUSTOMER'S MONEY. DANGER! Avoid this place. Found the name on yelp. Figured with 3 overall stars we would just stop by for a drink. It didn't end up that. First of all, you walk in and the smoke smell hits you like a brick wall. It quickly became obvious that is was a locals bar and they didn't seem real fond of us walking in. Sat up to the bar and it was filthy. Bartender didn't seem to care that we were using napkins to try to clean up the crap on the bar. Drinks were ok but hard to mess up a beer and a rum & coke. The only friendly patron did strike up a conversation with us and that is the only part of the visit that went well. Another old-head patron a few stools away started some crap and was ready to fight. Rather than get him under control or get him out the bartender warned him and the guy he was jawing at who did nothing wrong. After the warning the old-head continued saying crap but the bartender kept warning both of them. It seemed real obvious she wasn't going to kick this regular out even though he was 100% of the problem. The old-head even tried to involve us in his rediculous attempt to start a problem with the other guy. Luckily the single friendly patron agreed this old-head wasn't worth it and decided to leave. We decided we also would be heading out but a pit stop in the restroom was needed. Disgusting. No way to lock doors or stalls. Filthy restrooms. Ceilings falling down. A lot of people in other bars told us it really wasn't that bad of a place and that single idoit is the exception. We have no way of knowing but won't be going back to find out. read more
