a slice of pepperoni and sausage pizza

Johnny Ricco's is the only mobile option for Brooklyn style pizza in Omaha. This food truck has been around since 2015 and is veteran run. According to their website, their menu rotates seasonally. Easiest way to know where they will be is by checking their website and Facebook! Tried this pizza today at a work event. The Ricco's Red pizza came out quickly and had a beautiful pesto drizzle. The crust was perfectly thin and the sauce was a great balance of sweet and savory. My one complaint is how much oil was visible in the pizza. I definitely blotted off the excess. Otherwise, it was an incredible pizza and one slice was enough for a meal. The cannoli dessert was super satisfying and was on par with the cannolis I tried in Little Italy in the Boston area. I'd definitely get Johnny Ricco's again!

Johnny Ricco's rolled up with their food truck to the conference hotel I was staying at last weekend. I only had an hour in between events at the conference, so it was perfect to just grab a slice and then get back to conferencing. I went ahead and just got a plain slice of cheese with a side of marinara and a water. For that, it was $11. Now, I'm not saying you can't charge a good $7+ for a slice of pizza, but it had better be mind-blowing pizza since two pieces would be the cost of a full pie most places. For me, it was just alright. Hit the spot and was tasty, but for the high price tag, not exactly my favorite. If I hadn't need to stay close to the hotel, I probably would have gone with another lunch option in the area.

So good, I couldn't resisting taking a few bites before taking a picture! NY Cheese slice

My new favorite pizza in town! To be honest, a few years ago I would have scoffed at the thought of liking pizza from a food truck. Johnny Ricco's has changed my opinion of that! I ordered just the plain NY cheese slice, since I believe that is the basis of all good pizza joints. I was immediately transported to some of my favorites back east: perfect crust, savory sauce, cheese and a dusting of Italian seasoning. I loved it so much, I follow Johnny Ricco's on Facebook; they are great about posting each week where they can be found in town. The delicious smell as you walk by is dangerously tantalizing. If you think this is just another pizza, don't pass it by! These guys know what they are doing, and it's excellent!

A slice of heaven aka Caprese!

Love Johnny Rocco's pizzas! The food truck comes to my work at Fidelity every few months and you can bet I'll be the first in line! My favorite is the Caprese!! It is a slice of Italian greatness! It's topped with buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, and wait for it... basil pesto and balsamic! Yum!! This colorful creation is clearly a staple in my book! See photo of this savory slice!!

I believe this is a fairly new food truck and it's also a new vendor at my workplace. They have a variety of specialty pizza by the slice, a meatball sub, Italian sausage & peppers, wraps and cannoli for dessert. I opted for a slice of the Brooklyn Blue (pepperoni, Italian sausage, red onions, mushrooms, peppers, olives) and it was pretty huge served on a paper plate. They were doing a brisk business but the wait was only 5 minutes or so. Most entrees cost around $6.00 and a cannoli for dessert was $3.00 extra. Pizza crust was thin and a bit burnty. Still delicious! I would definitely try it again (buffalo chicken and jalapeno popper sound interesting!). I'd probably pass on the cannoli next time. The shell was a bit too crunchy and the filling had a grainy sweetness rather than the smoother consistency I prefer. They post their location schedule on Facebook and Twitter.

This place is a food truck. I caught them outside of Green Plains in the Aksarben Village on a Wednesday, and I ordered Da Meat. The size of the pizza is a bit overwhelming. It took up an entire paper plate and then some. If you're a fattie, like me, then this is all good. It was greasy new york awesomeness, and I enjoyed every bite.

Hands down, the BEST slice of Caprese pie around. Only regret is not ordering another slice before I left!

Pizza Quest -- Episode 3: Built with Love…read more The campaign continues. Next stop: Piezon's Pizzeria a neighborhood stronghold with a robust menu that offers plenty of choices without feeling overwhelming. For this session, I picked up: One slice of the Oh Mio Dio One slice of the Mahalo with jalapeños The standout of the encounter was the Oh Mio Dio. The combination of fiery chicken and cream cheese landed exactly where I like my pizza builds to be--bringing the perfect balance of heat and coolness in every bite. The Mahalo took a different path. Built with Canadian bacon, pineapple, and cream cheese, it already offers a unique take on a Hawaiian-style pizza. Adding jalapeños gave it just enough kick to complement the sweet and savory flavors without overwhelming them. I can see why it's my wife's favorite. The menu itself deserves credit. There's a lot to choose from, but it never feels complicated. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or a first-time visitor, finding your next slice feels straightforward. What stuck with me most, though, was the atmosphere. The walls are filled with stories and adventures drawn by kids, while pizza trays signed by Husker fans cover the space with messages and memories. Everywhere you look, there's evidence that people care about this place and that this place cares about its community. Heart 18 (+4) From children's drawings to signed pizza trays, the entire restaurant feels built on memories, traditions, and community. Wisdom 16 (+3) A menu with plenty of variety that remains easy to navigate and approachable for any adventuring party. Dexterity 17 (+3) The Oh Mio Dio balances heat and coolness with precision, while the jalapeños on the Mahalo add just the right amount of extra movement to the build. Mootz isn't just the best pizza place in Omaha, it's in the running for the best Omaha restaurant…read morePERIOD! I was blown away by every aspect of Mootz. Get ready for a novel of a review! I warned you... The exterior of Mootz is basically the same as all of Countryside Village (which is probably a requirement), but the inside is a different story! The interior is all white and bright, and super clean. They really let the food and service do the talking without needing to dress the place up (which I appreciate!) The star of the show is their Acunto brick oven. It's gigantic, with white tile, and their Mootz name at the top. They had it made in Naples and it was definitely worth doing that for this amazing centerpiece of the space. And the oven is not just for looks, it puts out some of the best pizza I have ever had. I am not usually a fan of pizza crust, and only eat the main "body" of each slice, but at Mootz, even the dough and crust is flavorful and tasty! It has a salty and (super) semi-sweet flavor. It makes each slice all the better. That's just an example of how much they obviously care about the product they are producing. We got to chat with many of the staff, including Mootz himself, his dad, and others, who were all extremely welcoming, kind, and helpful. My husband and I are doing the ABCs of Omaha restaurants we haven't been to yet, and Mootz was our M pick. We didn't plan to tell them that's what we were doing, but when two people are ordering two whole pizzas, there's a little bit of explanation needed - LOL! Once they knew that was what we were doing, they made sure to help us pick the slices to try that they loved best, and based on what we were craving. What's great about Mootz is that you can order just a single slice of a certain flavor, or get a full pie of different flavored slices. Because of this, we were able to try 8 different flavors of pizza! We ordered slices of the Buffalo Chicken, Cheeseburger, Chicken Alfredo, and Jalapeño Oaxaca for one pizza, and then the second pie we did a lot of the normal pizza flavors, so slices of the Cheese, Pepperoni, Supreme, and Margherita. They were ALL fantastic (and I am not exaggerating), but our favorites were the Cheeseburger, Buffalo Chicken, Margherita, and Jalapeño Oaxaca. I'm a cheeseburger girlie and I achingly missed the Cheeseburger Pizza that Pizza Shoppe (RIP) used to have. But no more missing that flavor - the Mootz version is so great, it has satiated that craving! The Buffalo Chicken was BOMB! Not too spicy of a buffalo at all, and the chicken is juicy and flavorful. They make their own Ranch too, and the Buffalo Chicken dipped in that was perfection. (And in mentioning the house made ranch, we also had a side salad that we shared, with that ranch, and it was awesome - very well dressed and with lots of veggies!) The Jalapeño Oaxaca was a fave because I appreciated the heat that the jalapeño gave, and the crema on top giving it a creaminess that counterbalanced the spiciness. The surprise of the day was the Margherita! I normally don't order Margherita pizza just because it's not too full of toppings or flavor usually - but that's not the case at Mootz. The dough being so flavorful works wonderfully with their delicious pizza sauce, basil, and SO much cheese (parm, Romano, mozzarella). It's a lighter slice if you aren't wanting anything too heavy, but that doesn't mean it's not big on flavor! And to round out the meal, they have some awesome desserts too. We tried the tiramisu and the chocolate chip cookies. Tiramisu is my favorite dessert, but my husband on the other hand does not super enjoy it (since he's not a coffee lover). But we BOTH loved the tiramisu at Mootz! It comes in a little cup and it's almost "crumbled" (vs layered, like a normal tiramisu slice), which gives each bite a little bit of each layered flavor. Yum! The chocolate chip cookies were on point too; chewy, sweet, soft, and definitely homemade. We made a great decision to try Mootz for our M restaurant, because it was so dang amazing. I definitely recommend you go here for your next night out, immediately, right now! Do it!

I came for the Detroit-style pizza, easily the most underrated pizza style there is. If you know, you know. I ordered The Cadillac: cream cheese, cherry peppers, hot honey. On paper, it's chaos. In practice? A beautifully thought-out balance of sweet and spicy. Rich without being heavy, heat without going overboard. Someone in that kitchen gets it. And for a moment, it's flirting with greatness. Almost a perfectly executed Detroit pie... until the crust. That signature Detroit crisp--the caramelized, fried-edge crunch--is just a little undercooked. Not bad, but quickly soggy. Just missing that final snap that makes this style elite. Still, credit where it's due. This is a valiant effort, and not an easy style to pull off outside its home turf. I see you, Omaha. You're closer than you think!
