Starting with service, it was great. The hostess greeted me warmly and seated me at a table with menus. Then my waitress took my drink and food order. She returned throughout my meal to check up on me. Food was good, however the popover she brought out was a bit greasy and tasteless, as was the bread also a bit stale. Other than that the food was good. (I removed 1 star for that and my steak was more medium than medium well. Ambiance was chill, darker due to the Italian theme no doubt. We come to Johnny's Steakhouse when we visit Eau Claire, usually to celebrate a birthday. It's expensive, so you should have very high expectations when you eat here. This time there were five of us. We had dinner reservations for 7:30 on a Thursday night. We got there a little early, so we had a drink at the bar. The bartender was friendly and helpful and didn't have an issue when we asked to have them take a group picture. The table was ready ahead of time, and we were taken to a small private area toward the rear of the restaurant. That was nice. Got greeted by a very friendly server who took great care of us the entire evening (best service ever, thanks Cat!). The meal started with the usual warm popovers. Those are always a treat and help take the edge off your hunger. We ordered a couple of appetizers, the Bruschetta and the Calamari. It didn't take long to get both of those, and they were very good. Then, while we were waiting, they brought a basket of bread. Since we just had popovers, I wish they would offer something else, maybe a relish tray? We ordered a number of different entrees. I had the Crab Cakes; there was a Parmesan-Crusted Strip Steak, Scallops and Risotto, Johnny's Chanel No. 5 (ravioli with shrimp and lobster), and Beef Wellington. When it came out, everything was hot, with great flavors, the steaks were cooked to the right temperatures, and the portions were decent. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, with the exception of the risotto, it was undercooked, a little hard, and watery. (If I had known that early on, I would have mentioned it to the server.) Saved room for desserts, we each got our own, including Tiramisu, Creme Brulee, Raspberry Lemon Layered Cake, and Brandy Alexander. A great way to finish the meal. Would definitely come back again. Went last night to celebrate February birthdays, three out of four of us. We were seated in a corner booth near the bar which was perfect for our party! Started with the popovers which we really enjoy. Ordered drinks and a bottle of wine which was very professionally offered. our meal was delicious with the steaks done to perfection, my sirloin was done to perfectly, medium rare, the best I have had in ages. We were offered birthday dessert, but I had to go with the creme Brule, my favorite. Eric, our server was outstanding, always there when needed but not too intrusive. He was a joy to talk to and knew answers to everything we asked. I think that Johnny's is beautifully decorated and will be back again! read more

We have been to Johnnys several times in the past and it's always been good. This time we just ordered apps we ended up with way overpriced scallops with shave, brussels sprouts, usually always a stand out. It now looks like they are using Bay scallops a little smaller and diameter than a quarter. I would say. We also ordered stuffed mushrooms and got five mushrooms with sausage and cheese stuffing. It was like chewing on a rubber band. I'm not sure what has happened to this place, but based on the dishes we got, two of the scallops and one of the mushrooms and one drink a piece cost us over $100 with a tip. We were in town for a wedding and staying at the hotel. After the Friday night events, we stopped in for a nightcap. The bar was pretty full. On the far side, there were 2 open chairs. We asked a young waiter, Erik, if we could pass through the back of the bar, and he said we could. The bartender, Cody, told Erik we couldn't do that loud enough for me to hear. He wasn't nice about it and gave me a look. He never greeted us or smiled. We were then waited on by Nate. He also never greeted us or smiled. He made our drinks fast enough. My old fashion was okay. My husband's Manhattan was not. We have never seen a practically clear Manhattan( my pic makes it look darker). It also had very little flavor. We we questioned were told that it looked that way because of the ice. He also unkindly told us he could make it again, but it would be the same. We sat by where the wait staff dropped off the dirty barware. The bright spot in all of this was Erik and Don. When they came by, they smiled and engaged with us. We went back Saturday night with some family. Nate again waited on us. He was not any more friendly. The drinks again were just okay. We have been in before with a large family group and were treated very well. We had that expectation. read more

We went for Easter and our reservations were for 12:15 we were seated on time. Waited an hour for our food once we got our food we were given our check. She never asked if we wanted dessert or anything. The vegetables were cooked beyond recognition. My husband ham was a dried up hunk of meat. I went there for my Birthday, which my daughter booked 3 months in advance, then confirmed the morning of. Mind you, we have gone here for my birthday lunch for the past 6 years. They said everything was good to go. Well...it wasn't! What the didn't tell her was that with our 15 guests, test they would separate us and seat us 15 minutes apart from eachother, which was the weirdest thing I have ever experienced. Our Valentine's date started off great.  We sat at the bar and enjoyed a drink before our table was ready.  Once we were seated at our table, our server was bubbly and nice.  The popovers were delish, the appetizer was tasty, our soups were also good. Then, our entrees were delivered, and I ordered a drink from our waitress. My husband said his Chef Andy's Cavatappi was decent.  I ordered the 18 oz. bone-in ribeye and scallops with a side of asparagus with Bearnaise sauce.  The ribeye was TOUGH, and trying to cut it with a butter knife (they don't provide steak knives) had the table rockin'.  My asparagus was bland and slightly undercooked. I am a slow eater, so it was about 25 minutes before I was done eating my entree, and still no drink.  Our waitress finally came back to the table and listed off dessert options.  I did order warm chocolate cake and asked if my drink was ready at the bar; she told me she would check.  Some time later she came back and said they ran out of the mix used to make the cocktail and the bartender was mixing more up.  I am not kidding, it was maybe 45 minutes after I ordered it that the drink finally came.  Tables that were seated after us, that had a different waitress, were already leaving.  At no point when she came back to update us on the drink, did she ever apologize for the delay.   In any regard, the warm chocolate cake was amazing. So, poor service and a tough steak at a "steakhouse."   If I could convince my husband to go back, I would totally have scallops as my main entree and the same dessert, but make sure we had a different waitress (I have her name on the receipt, but I'm not going to post it here since maybe she was having a bad night, but I won't chance having her as a waitress a 2nd time).   A disappointing Valentine's experience, for sure! read more

Very welcoming, great service and the food was amazing. I had dinner here last night. The restaurant is located on the back of a Holiday Inn, but is anything but cheap. The ambiance is very nice, fine dining with many couples, very few families. I had the Filet Oscar and wish I had upsized to the 10 oz. because 6 oz. was not enough, it was that good. The soup, which was a pulled pork chili with a broth that was delicious. The salad was great too. We love Johnny's! It's one of our go-tos because everything is always predictable. From the service to the food, everything is always delicious and the space is warm and inviting. We love the non-alcoholic drink options, especially the stone sour. For food you can never go wrong with the prime rib, the steak de burgo, the scallop appetizer, and of course the popovers are so delicious as well. Johnnys Italian Steakhouse was recommended by the staff at Staybridge so we went. It's at the Holiday Inn hotel if I knew this place was so good we would have stayed here. Our waitress was very nice we ordered our drinks. She brought them and two popovers with butter. They were the best she told us the they have been making them for a long time and the chef had perfected them. Then we ordered dinner I got the Waldorf salad and my hubby got Lasagna. Then she brought out focaccia bread and said it's good with the olive oil and parmesan cheese so I did that and really good but I love bread. My salad was a work of art with mixed salad walnuts three different apples goat cheese and the Waldorf dressing was the best. Hubby lasagna was really good also and his side was vegetables soup good also. I would recommend this restaurant it was really good. Great meal, had a steak, had 2 amazing maple old fashioned. Although one of my glasses has someones lip stick on it, I honestly didn't notice till is finished drinking the drink, I'd highly recommend the drink, just not that glass. No reduction in price for the added lipstick so 4 stars, 5 stars had someone at least attempted to say sorry. Great views everywhere, great service other than the lipstick ordeal. read more

We stopped here on our way out of town for business. Amazing food, awesome atmosphere, romantic music and attentive service! We started with the crispy Brussels sprouts and you can't go wrong with those! Crispy and very flavorful; so good! Then we ordered Johnny's steak de burgo and Johnny's Chanel No 5. The dining room is cozy and has both tables and booths. It's definitely an upscale restaurant. The service was excellent although we had to wait a long time for our food to be served. As soon as we sat down, we were seved with a wonderful warm popover. We had a delicious wedge salad that we had to peel off the outer layers because the lettuce was wilted or brown. I have ordered chicken piccata all over the United States so we both ordered chicken piccata. I have to say what I ate was not chicken piccata. It was deep fat fried and the chicken had no flavor. The lemon and butter caper sauce had too many capers in it. Johnny's really needs to look at how they are creating the chicken piccata. We ordered a side of pasta but the pasta was not cooked nor hot enough to melt the cheese on top. The presentation left a lot to be desired. We ordered crème brûlée for dessert and it was wonderful. It has been a long time since I've had a crème brûlée that was actually a custard. I gave the restaurant a 3 star rating. Due to the wilted and brown lettuce, and the presentation and lack of flavor of the chicken piccata. read more

I really enjoyed this place. I had a very great feeling that this place was going to be great from the get go! The bread was cheesy as all heck, The salad was healthy, and their ravioli made me want to know the formuoli. I went with my mum and she is gluten free and they were able to accommodate for her needs perfectly! Her and i also had a terrific waitress and I am bummed out that I forgot her name because she was the kindest individual ever. Great ambience. Wonderful dinner and service. Cocktails were great. It was expensive, but worth it.

The only thing I would go back and voluntarily eat would be their ranch dressing. And my water tasted good. Nothing is ever remotely good about a cold prime rib clearly sitting out for a while. The seafood pomodoro was meh at best. I added red chili flakes for flavor and it helped a little. Then the salt helped more. The freshly made popovers had hope, coming out piping hot with butter. It was not good. Looked like a croissant type of flakey but then the inside was undercooked, egg custard nastiness. It was terrible. Luckily, our relatives across the table enjoyed their steaks (not pictured). They weren't blown away but they liked it so that's good. Steak deBurgo and NY Strip were the two unpictured ones. Everyone agreed...garlic mashed potatoes...we think they forgot the garlic so it was just plain 'ol unflavored mashed potatoes. Overall, 2 would be a generous rating. Would most likely rate this place a 3 or 3 1/2 Star but I am giving it little extra just for the Sinatra theme! Love old blue eyes ! This is a very nice upscale restaurant located in a Holliday Inn. Obviously by the name the menu consists primarily Italian foods along with some nice looking steaks. There are salads and seafood options also on the menu. I would consider this place to fit into more of a "fine dinning" establishment so I will rate it accordingly. Tonight I ordered the Veal Parmesan and Baked Potato Soup. The soup was good, not great, and it just seemed be lacking something from making it stand out. Looking at pictures on Yelp, the next time I think I would try the French Onion instead. My veal was also good but it wasn't good enough for me to consider ordering it again either. A major let down tonight was the staff. Not that my waitress was unfriendly, in fact she was very likable. The unfortunate thing was her training. I'm going to guess she's new, but when I had questions about the menu she was confused. There was two types of veal on the menu and she was not sure what the difference was, except one was more "extravagant" than the other! I have to admit I did get a kick out of that answer! Here are some helpful warnings... Bring your glasses, or someone with good eyes. It's very dark in the restaurant and the writing on menu is very small. If you are a traveler staying at the hotel do not be fooled by the room service menu. The menu in your room has some inexpensive choices that are not available in the restaurant. I'm not positive, but I'm assuming that the menu is ala cart. My meal was just two average sized pieces on veal and that's it. No salad, no veggie, no potato, but it did come with an undercooked popup roll. (I have to admit that even though it was undercooked, it still tasted great)! Sounds like I'm being negative and maybe I am a little. This is a great looking place, with a nice adult vibe. But for the price I think they could step it up a bit. I've been here twice already. One night for dinner and another for apps and drinks. The bone in ribeye was very good. I had the vegetable of the day and the garlic mash. Both very good. The wine list is a bit thin with an average if 3 choices per type of wine. Wait staff is attentive. I know it just opened, but the bar service is really SLOW. About 15-20 minutes to get a bourbon old fashioned, and it was not busy on their second night. The other time...we got our apps before the cocktails arrived. The need to step it up or add a bartender to get 5 stars from me. The decor is modern, although the lightening is very low, so difficult for some to even read the menu. My husband and I visit our son who lives in Eau Claire several times a month. One of our favorite restaurants is Johnny's Italian Restaurant! We have been going there for years. We took our son and his wife to Johnny's on Wednesday, June 8th to celebrate a birthday. We witnessed a horrific scene from a table close to ours. A man was harassing a young server by calling her names and yelling at her. It was truly difficult to watch! I deeply regret not intervening but it happened so fast. He kept telling her what a terrible attitude she had. It was completely uncalled for! The ironic thing was, we have had that server before and she is delightful! After we were seated I heard her interacting with another table and hoped she would be our server again. But that was not the case. Shame on that man and shame on on Johnny's for allowing their staff to be treated like that! He should never ever be allowed back! It is a rarity to have such great servers/bartenders and other staff in the food industry in our world today! I have thought of that dear girl every day since! read more

This review is to revise my previous 5 star review. we have always loved Johnny's for its excellent service and top notch food. The last time we went there, it was with our family, for a birthday celebration. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the standards that we had become accustom to. The service is still stellar, but the meals were VERY disappointing. I ordered a meal that was supposed to have lobster. The cook substituted chewy pork belly for the lobster. My wife and daughter ordered the fish special, which was supposed to be "sea trout," but was just a ploy to rid themselves of salmon. The salmon they got was over cooked, and dry. I don't mind paying for quality food, but will not pay exorbitant prices for mediocre substitutes. Shame on them! read more
