Was waiting for my kids to finish at the photo store and I was hungry. Saw John's Dei across the street and ordered a ham, Swiss, turkey sandwich with lettuce tomato and Mayo. Usually, a lot of places mess up on this simple sandwich but not John's deli. Good portion of meats for the price. Guy working behind counter very friendly and nice. I eat here whenever I can- beef or chicken stew, meatloaf, lasagna, breakfast sandwiches, bagels (try the pumpernickel. Trust me!), coffee & soft drinks from the cooler- it's all good! If you've lived in Brooklyn for a long time, like over 20 years, you're bound to know from a good Italian deli. I grew up near a place on Smith street called Joe's Superette, that made the most amazing prosciutto balls you ever did taste. Going to John's deli takes me back to that magical (long since closed) place. The joy of this place is the possibilities. When you walk in there, there's this whole amazing spread, that changes every day. There's really nothing like walking into John's at lunchtime. Are you going to get a perfect deli sandwich on fluffy as a cloud bread? Or pasta with clams sauce and a side of broccoli with garlic? Many props to Maria, the cook, who knows how to make things right. Her eggplant and chicken Parmesan is incredible. The beef stew is fantastic. I dream of the ditalini with bacon and peas, but I try to stay away for my waist's sake. It doesn't hurt that they also have a great beer selection, and the service is fantastic. Windsor Terrace peeps, you can breathe a sigh of relief. There's another option out there! Conveniently located next to the Ft. Hamilton subway stop too. This convenience store has just come under new management (which I only report because there's a giant sticker on the window that says so). So, whatever that means. They have another location in Bay Ridge. For being such a small deli, it's not too shabby, and actually much bigger and cleaner than the others nearby. Their menu boasts a lot of options. Breakfast (omelettes, french toast, sandwiches), Cold sandwiches, Hot sandwiches, Burgers, specialty sandwiches, platters . . . you name it! Their hero sandwiches are HUGE. I'm talking the size of my face huge. Their breakfast sandwiches have helped me through some rough mornings, if you know what I mean. And I think you do. They also have a lot of good beer options. So now I can come home from work and celebrate properly.* They're open 7 days a week, 7 am to 9 pm. There's an ATM that has a charge of $1.75. Free delivery with a minimum $12.00 order. And apparently they do a lot of catering too. OK, so I've been visiting these guys for almost 1 year now. I can't say this about many places: I visit John's at least once a week. I love it. I'm upping my stars to 5 because these guys deserve it. The service is consistent, the place is always spotless, and they always have everything I need in stock and at very reasonable prices. The owners at Blonde's, the other deli around the corner, stand outside their store and smoke cigarettes every time I walk by. I see them when I get off the subway after work every day. Maybe it's just their designated smoking time? Maybe they do it all day long. One more reason to visit John's over that place. read more

Glad we explored John's Deli, wanted really good roast beef, not boars head, but the kind that is made in house. John's had it and it was excellent!! We got a pound of the roast beef to take back to Pennsylvania and had them make a sandwich for us to take to Dyker Heights for the lights. I had a lot of special requests on the sandwich and all were satisfied without any fuss. 100% EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE A+++++++++++++. I like this place, I really do. I really enjoy their sandwiches and cole slaw, I'm happy that they are conveniently close to The Juice Box and have pretty much anything I need in a quick fix. Are they over priced? Yes. Do they sometimes have an attitude? Yes....and this is why I can't give them 4 stars. I have been here at least 30 times in the past year for various products, the convenience, cleanliness and selection are what keep me coming back. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago I was in there with two friends from out of town and watched the employees not make eye contact and almost act annoyed at my friends ordering. This is a Deli like the delis I grew up with... Food in trays-- damn good. Fresh and home cooked (not greasy). Great for a quick meal. They bring their bagels in from La Bagel Delight, they are good. However, the odd flavors are sometimes a day old. They have a few good household items and well-stocked fridge of eggs, butters, soy milk, cheese etc etc. They are not cheap but they are certainly not gentrified Brooklyn prices. read more

I stop at John's deli at 8:40 in the morning sorry to say my experience was not good at all with the food. The place is very clean, the stuff seems nice but they keep to themselves. There was only 2 or 3 people there. I guess it was too early. I had sunny-side up, home-fries sausages with toast and a large cuppa coffee. The eggs were not well done they look gooey and mushy the potatoes were very orange and hard. The sausage was OK. My toast was cold and had way too much butter. I was hungry and I really needed to eat before going back to work. I could not eat all my food. I had to throw away more than half of my food because it was hard, cold and gooey. The coffee was OK. I'm sorry but I will never eat my breakfast there again. read more

I like going here to get bagels in the morning. It's so clean and everything is always fresh. There is a real sense that they care. The subs are also really good, my kids like them too. They also have those Arizona $1.00 tallboys like the Arnold Palmer lite kind. They provide excellent customer service and they are reliable. Can't beat that. read more

It is conveniently located. It is clean. Those things are true, just as the previous reviewer said. But there's a reason this place is empty every time I walk by. The prices are absolutely absurd. When I got a breakfast sandwich (2 eggs, cheese and bacon on a roll) and was charged $4.25, I grabbed a menu on the way out to see if he had made a mistake. It was no mistake, but it *was* a rip-off. Then I had a look at the other prices on the menu and compared a basic: a turkey hero. To get the sandwich the way I like it (which is nothing special), it would cost $7.50! How is this possible? Because the base price is $6 and then you start getting nickeled and dimed for everything. Lettuce, that'll be another 25 cents. Tomato, same thing. cheese 75 cents. And the list goes on and on. Maybe I've just been lucky, but every place I go has all of that included in the base price. Keep in mind that this is all with the same Boar's Head products that everybody else uses. Well stocked, fresh donuts on Thursdays and Saturdays, friendly staff...a great neighborhood deli. I'm in there several times a week and have found obscure common baking supplies as well as basic staples. I wish the people working in every store I went into were this friendly. On a first name basis with all their regular customers and know the quirks of your order before you have to say it. The promise of their fresh donuts every Thursday and Saturday (brought in from some fabulous place in Bay Ridge) is how I get my kids out of bed! We'd be lost without John's Deli. read more

My husband and I are late bloomers when it comes to John's Deli. We only recently started patronizing them even though we've been in the neighborhood for years, and we're hooked! The guys are old school Brooklyn sweethearts and the prepared home-cooked food is out of this world. We've tried at least 7 or 8 different dishes there and they've all been great -- both the entrees and sides. We also enjoy some of their daily specials like the crumb cake. Lastly, John's is literally the only place in the City where I will still have an Italian deli meat hero sandwich. Love them. read more
