Tucked away in a little corner behind a pho restaurant, this barber shop is very much a no frills place where you can walk in in or call (call to be safe honestly) and get a solid hair cut for an "affordable" price point. As I write this review in May 2025, the hair cuts are $22. He prefers cash, but does accept card by the way. He did exactly what I wanted and I was very impressed. I received a haircut as a walk in and John said he would squeeze me in. He rushed thru my haircut and the next day I gave it a closer look. It was very uneven and I would probably rate it as one of the worst haircuts I have ever received. When I went back to have John fix it, he said there was nothing he could do. I disagreed with him and asked him to specifically try to shorten one area to even the side up. He refused and just kept saying it was my fault as I had a 'bump' on my head due to wearing a hat. John just kept saying there was nothing he could do and he was unwilling to even try and I should go somewhere else if I wanted his haircut fixed. I have never been treated by a barber like this in my 70+ years. I would obviously never go back!!! read more

Don't let the location (which is just a little on the seedy side) put you off, John is a skilled barber with great prices. Besides giving you a great haircut (which is really the main thing,) he's very quick and doesn't chat much, which is unusual and I honestly prefer. I walked in after cutting my hair off jagged and short (I am female). I was certain John must be finished with the client in the chair as he had no hair I could see to trim. But this barber gave that man who "needed" 1/8 inch (maybe 1/4) of a cut a complete haircut and brow trim. I asked him to buzz cut and blend the back of my head leaving the length on top and hair over my ears and trim strays . He did exactly what I asked. Simplicity is a rare find these days. Since my original barber retired (Sunny's Barbershop, Burien) ive been wandering from barber to barber. I gave this place a try, its always hard finding a new barber, but this place surprised me. Did a great mid-skin fade, lined me up nice and straight, and he was very nice and friendly. John is a great barber, I definitely recommend! He remind me of my old barber, her name was Sunny, a nice and beautiful older Korean lady. I was going to her for YEARS. I was devastated, but also happy when she retired. I used to go to a much more expensive barber and I can honestly get the same quality cut for way less here and half the time. If you make an appointment you can be in-out within half an hour and I absolutely love that. John is super accommodating and vacuums your hair for free which I've never had at any other barbershop. Great no frills barber. John is a one man show. He knows what he is doing. Just make sure to communicate and show pictures of what kind of style you're going for. He always finishes your cut by vacuuming your head, which I appreciate. It is definitely a very affordable place to go for a quick haircut. You can walk in, but I'd recommend just calling the day of or the day before to schedule an appointment. There's a parking lot with lots of spots. John is meticulous when it comes to cutting hair. Every strand of hair will be of the desired length. It usually takes about 20mins (men's hair) and the head vacuuming is always free. If you've never been head vacuumed, you're in for a treat. Let's just say its a process that allows you to leave without the typically after haircut itch. I could recommend John's Hair Styling to anyone and know that they'll become regular. I was due for a haircut and found this barber shop closeby thru Yelp. This is a one-man show, John handles everything! I showed him how my last hair cut looked like and to basically just follow it. He insisted to cut the back a little even after I said "that's the style", and claimed it'd look better if he cuts it. He also did the line-up a little too wide even after I said to make it narrow or thin -- like natural looking. I'm glad he has the scissors to texturize my hair (not all barbers have it or do it!)! I got to experience the "vacuum" people mentioned here. I thought it was awesome as you don't have the hair all over your upper body! I'd try this barber again in 2 weeks. read more

It's a barber shop - not yo mama's fancy ass Bellevue salon. So if you want a Kpop Jerry curl with blonde highlights, this is NOT the place for you. But if you're a dude that wants fast, cheap, and reliable, this is the place for you. Try to be specific in how you want your haircut if you're new or show John a picture on your phone if changing to a new style - he can cut it correct if you just show him. Getting your hair cut here is like a Mongolian grill...if you don't like how it tastes, it's your fault for adding all those damn sauces. I've been coming to John's at least once a month for haircuts for about 10 years now, and it might make me seem biased, but there's a reason. Ever since the first time in 7th grade, I've always received the same professional dedication to quality as that very first time. John is a real friendly guy (apart from a slight language barrier sometimes), and his wife, who sometimes assists, is great as well. What really stands out about this place, however, is again, the quality and attention to detail. In high school, I started needing buzz cuts for an USAF program. Even though it could have been done by any monkey with a #2 shaver, I went back all the time to John's. Even for this simple haircut (which, incidentally, I still have, go figure), John concentrates on the details. He'll use three different types of electric shavers on you, then go down to details with a pair of hair scissors and a brush. For a buzz cut. I used to show up to my squadron with a perfectly rounded haircut, as in not even one hair standing up. People used to stand me in front of a white wall and try to spot errant hairs, without success. While this might be a tad extreme for the average joe, it just goes to illustrate how careful John is to not only fulfill what you want, but exceed your expectations. Considering I'm a youngish guy, I don't have any experience with women's or senior haircuts, but I would expect the same level of service. One thing to keep in mind is that John may be slightly more expensive than what you're used to. The current haircut runs at $15 for a male, and I usually chuck in three bucks for a tip or so. However, there is definitely something to be said about paying for quality. I'm sure over the last 10 years I've dropped quite a bit at John's salon, but I never bat an eye. I give additional gifts around the Holidays, just like you would a doorman you see everyday, simply because this is the kind of quality and friendly stylist you can't find anywhere else. I have thick, black hair. The kind that barbers look at and know they're in for a long haul. I've actually had barbers take breaks during my haircut and then return to finish what was usually a 45-minute cut - sometimes recommending I go to a hair salon. Mind you, I know my hair is a tough cut so I already avoid the bargain cuts. I actually grew up in a barbershop so I'm pretty picky with my hair. I discovered John when I moved into the area a few years ago after trying other barbers in the area. Long(er) story short, John takes about 15 minutes to give me a really nice and proper cut. And he doesn't rush. Just calmly cuts my hair like the pro he is.
