Stopped by for a beard trim and haircut recently. Lovely little shop. Has a very friendly atmosphere, and a couple of cute dogs. They fit me in same day with just a few hours advance on a Saturday. Staff are really friendly and accommodating. The cut itself was good. Nice lines very neat. Only thing I would want different was a little shorter on the mustache portion. They left it a little long. This is the best haircut I've had in 10+ years in Seattle. Second place is not even close. I'm writing this review three weeks later, and it still looks great. After years of abusive relationships with the various shops of certain other barber shop chains in Seattle, I won't go back. This shop is the best; Windy really loves cutting men's hair and gets it right. One bit of advice is that you shouldn't come in a rush. This is not a 20-minute haircut. They spend time with you here. The night I came, I was the final customer of the night, so there was no reason to rush and it took a long while. But it was worth it! I love how I look. read more

Every other week, for 23 years in a row (ever since 1998), the same guy cut my hair. Then, last month, he decided to call it quits. When I finally got over the shock, I knew I had to start looking for a new barber. Since I was changing shops anyway, I decided I really wanted to be able to walk from home to get my hair cut. I used the map function on Yelp to search the highest-rated barber shops in my neighborhood. And voilà, there was Windy's. It would barely be more than a 15-minute walk away. Now, it was hard to believe that Windy's (the closest to me) was not only the highest-rated barber shop in the neighborhood, but also in the entire region, with an overall 5-star rating from 99 reviews. "5-star average with 99 reviews? How is that possible?" I wondered. I dug into those 99 reviews and saw that only five of them weren't 5-stars. There was a single 'one-star' review from some snowflake-crybaby who arrived 20 minutes late and wasn't perfectly satisfied (what 3 year-old is ever satisfied?) and a few others who liked the shop reasonably well, yet not quite well enough to rate Windy's at the top of the scale. But the other 94 customers gushed about the competence, courtesy, and charisma of the staff. Many mentioned the fair price, and all awarded 5 stars. High praise, indeed. So, I called up Windy, made an appointment, and went in last Saturday. The result? Windy's 100th review receives 5-stars from me, too. I felt welcome and safe in here, from the initial friendly check-in, all throughout the haircut, and right up until I paid and walked out the door. The entire experience seemed familiar and comfortable, almost homey, as though I had been here before, except I hadn't. And how was my haircut? Just perfect. It took longer than any haircut of my life, but for the sheer precision of the cut, it was worth every meticulous minute. And chatting with Windy about her family and philosophy was a rare treat. She made me feel like a regular customer. 3 days later, what a surprise: I received a compliment from a total stranger who told me what a great haircut I had, and he asked who did it. I don't ever remember getting a random compliment on a haircut like that before. I'll be going back again in 2 weeks, and again after that, no doubt. Thank you, Windy. It had been over a year since I moved to Seattle, and I was looking for my go-to hair cuttery. The first 8 months since moving to Seattle, I was cutting my own hair because I didn't feel safe going to a salon. Once King County's vaccination rates hit 70%, I started exploring again. I tried out two places within walking distance that didn't quite work. Finally, I tried Windy's. It was a little further away and I had to get in my car, but decided to give it a shot. There's designated parking right behind. Windy's is a very unique barber place, unlike any I've visited before. They were super strict about vaccination records -- I had to take a photo and text it to a number. The decor is super rock'n'roll-y. And there were two dogs. Two dogs. In the salon. Two. I have never before seen a dog in a barber place. The dogs were both super well-behaved, so it was not an issue in the least. I was simply a bit surprised. Holly gave me my haircut. It was nice and sharp. Loved it. Definitely going back. read more

Damn son, cut your hair. So I'm here getting my hair cut. This marks my xx-teenth visit, they do all the things right to cut my hair. Firstly, they off you something to drink, water, coffee, tea, beer... the essentials. At the bench of waiting, they have a GameCube to keep the kids, or kids at heart busy. Next the cut, to do just about anything, their stylists are all experienced, and they tell you they enjoy their jobs, which from the conversations with them, is genuine. I harken back to the idea that a good haircut comes from a happy barber. My hair comes out great, they leave me looking the way I appreciate. Aka, wife approved. Costs? It's fair, reasonable, and good. Do I recommend this place, yes. read more

I went to Windy's as a client of Holly's for ~6mos before Holly had to take time off to care for her sick mom. I caught back up with Holly recently (she is now working out of the Ballard and Phinney Ridge Rudy's Barbershop locations) and learned Windy wasn't telling people who asked where to find Holly now, so I wanted to spread the word. Seems unfair to not help clients who liked working with Holly find her new spot, especially since Windy doesn't seem to have enough time to handle all Holly's old clients. (I had to go somewhere else entirely while Holly wasn't working because Windy was too busy to schedule me.) I'm sure Windy's haircuts are great, but it sounds like her business practices leave a little something to be desired, thus the 3 star rating. Also, you can now book online with Holly at the Rudy's locations; one of the big bummers about Windy's is that you have to either text or call to schedule; no online system. Would love to see Windy's add that feature! read more

This barbershop is the most consistent shop I've gone to! I've been a customer here for about one and a half years! I have sat in Windy and Zach's chair, always leaving satisfied. Their prices are fair and even beat the chop-and-go rates at places like Rudy's. One of the most important aspects of their work is paying attention to details and listening to their clients. They actually get to know the hair they are working with. I have a cowlick that always throws hairstylists and barbers for a loop...at Windy's they always properly manipulate it for the hairstyle I'm going for. I've been growing out my hair during quarantine but have been anxious to go into a barber since I am fairly soft-spoken and don't always feel like I've been listened to. My experience at Windy's has hands-down been the best experience I've had and this is easily the happiest I've ever been with a haircut. I texted to make an appointment (which is a very nice option) and they managed to fit me in during the same day. They also asked what kind of haircut I wanted before I ever set foot in the shop so they could pair me with a compatible barber which was something I have never had happen before and was also lovely. I arrived and was quickly and very politely checked-in with my temp being taken and was also given gloves. I was paired with Holly who was not only extremely friendly and skillful, but also was a very good listener and made sure she knew exactly what I wanted and even checked in with me at several points before going forward during the haircut. The vibe of the shop was very casual and friendly and I was extremely comfortable throughout my visit. I will absolutely be back and will definitely go with Holly again. I cannot recommend this place enough and I will be suggesting here to all my friends. read more

I would think twice about moving from Seattle because I wouldn't be able to go to her for haircuts. She's tended to my hair at every length from a buzz cut to a ponytail and I've never walked out dissatisfied. This shop cannot be undervalued--every single time I have gone in the barbers are attentive and intuitive to your needs. Pros: 1: cheap; if you're going regularly for a trim it is rather inexpensive; if your an every 6 weeks kind of guy it is market price (somewhere in the 30's) 2: they try to keep a record of your habits of style and seek to follow up with it and continue the same style when you're coming in for a trim. 3: parking in the back is easy 4: really does feel like a community barbershop Cons: Both the barbers that I have had have (or are about to) move away, which is a bummer--this isn't really a knock against the shop, I'm just kinda sad cos' they were very good. In sum: a great place that places emphasis on good barbering and not on distracting and false ambiance. Only improvement? Maybe offer a straight razor neck shave... but I have no clue what that would mean from a practical side of things (i doubt its even necessary). read more

She always takes the appropriate time on your hair and I look forward to the good conversations with her and the others in the shop. When she was out recently for a surgery, she even gave the barber detailed notes/pics for my specific haircut! She recently transitioned to a new location in Ballard and has put in extra time, effort, and money to get the shop setup the best for her customers- and it has paid off. I had the absolute pleasure and the rockstar results of a custom balayage and cut by Virginia at Windy's in Ballard. Virginia took the time to walk me through the process, select a color tone pattern and then execute a multidimensional balayage masterpiece -- this blonde and cut are literally the best I have ever had. Balayage is no joke -- it's an advanced color process which ditches the foils and root lines for a sun kissed hand-painted look (because the entire thing is an art -- and IS hand-painted) -- I could not be happier. Virginia is a pro, so much fun to hang out in her chair (even though we have to be faces covered, latex gloves, and temp checked) she made the process just as awesome and very safe and comfortable. My husband has gone here every 3 weeks for the last 5yrs+ now. Her and all of the barbers that work there are consultative, purposeful and fun. He always comes home with a great cut, and always gets compliments on his hair when we're out. Nice people and shop and great hours. However I asked for a razor fade and got an undercut with no fade. I didn't have glasses on so I couldn't stop the mistake and by the time it was over it couldn't be corrected. Anyways just make sure to emphasize FADE if that's what you want. Thanks for the response Windy. I appreciate it. Anyways I did show photos of my previous haircuts with fades. Also I specifically asked for a razor fade so the length on top doesn't matter. Quality barber shop, and Windy really knows her stuff. What I appreciate is that Windy (the owner) remembers almost everyone's styles, but also takes the time to help other barbers to make sure that all her clients are taken care of properly. I will say that they don't suffer fools gladly. If you're late or you're a no-show, they will penalize you. Small business rules: you're costing them money for an appointment slot, so make sure you get their on time, or cancel within 24 hours. read more
