As I write this review in May 2025, the hair cuts are $22. He prefers cash, but does accept card by the way. He did exactly what I wanted and I was very impressed. I wish I had something this easy and quick in Chicago as a barber option.

I disagreed with him and asked him to specifically try to shorten one area to even the side up. He refused and just kept saying it was my fault as I had a 'bump' on my head due to wearing a hat. John just kept saying there was nothing he could do and he was unwilling to even try and I should go somewhere else if I wanted his haircut fixed. I have never been treated by a barber like this in my 70+ years. I would obviously never go back!!!

I'm extremely disappointed…read more Not with the haircut, the barber who worked on me did a solid job. No issue there. The problem is the blatant disrespect from other employees. Because of a shirt I was wearing, I was mocked in another language by people who clearly assumed I wouldn't understand them. That was their first mistake. For the record, I do understand multiple languages, and I knew exactly what was said. Making comments like that about a paying customer is unprofessional and pathetic. What made it worse was the reaction after I acknowledged it: no apology, no accountability, just silence and avoiding eye contact. That says everything. If I ran a business and my employees spoke about customers like that, they wouldn't be employed for long. It's that simple. I've paid good money here, always been respectful, and expected the same in return. Instead, I got cowardly behavior and disrespect. Because of that, I won't be back. Here's some advice: if you're going to talk about customers behind their backs, don't assume they're ignorant. And better yet, don't do it at all. Respect goes both ways. You failed at that.

Super Quick, Amazing Fade, Great Rates…read more Looked for a good barber on a Sunday before a trip. Found Uplake on Yelp, made an appointment, and came away very pleased. I'm usually very cautious about barbers. I've had a couple of atrocious experiences with beauticians, and now I look for the barber's license before I'll even sit down. And will leave if I don't see it. And will tell the person to stop if they start doing anything alarming. At Uplake, it was 100% positive. :) After walking in, the courteous crew asked if I wanted water and then had me sit down with a nice gentleman. He asked me what I was looking for and I shared my specifications. Off to the races... 25 minutes later, I'm done, the fade is sharp, everything is level, and I've paid half as much as I usually do. The people working are exceedingly humble, courteous, and grateful for the business. There's also a loyalty program for a discount off every 6th haircut. Will be back!

And you can't talk about this place without talking about their adorable dog who I consider their mascot. Secondly, they actually saved me! I had a bad experience elsewhere and they were able to fit me in at the last minute. I'm actually glad the other place fell through because I was meant to come here.
