She was so friendly and helpful. They had a March special on drinks and I decided to have The Pot of Gold which was 1800 coconut tequila, grand marnier, and pineapple juice.. it wasn't too sweet.. it was so good! I really think they should add it to their drink list The Swiss cheeseburger, seasoned veggies, hamburger steak were all so very very good! Atmosphere was relaxing and fun. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I had a 4oz filet. I asked for rare. Was cooked more blue, but I was happy with that. No offer of steak sauce. Fine with me because I prefer salt and butter. Baked potato was actually great! Mac and cheese was not anything to write home about. Salad was huge - took it back to my hotel. Haggerty's was busy in a small-ish town for a Thursday night. I don't drink, so no comment on any alcohol except to say the Cosmo looking drinks at a table nearby looked great in frosty glasses. There were a few large groups lingering and chatting. Several other single eaters at the bar who seemed happy. Some family style meals going on - groups of 4 or 5. Overall, I'd say this is good spot to go for a steak if you're craving one. I'd return.

I went into the establishment saw my order sitting on the rack, with no one around, while several people, including management's were outside on a smoke break. I went back to my car and asked my wife to investigate. She went inside and retrieved the order. We called back to the store to complain and was offered an apology and an excuse that they were busy, which is hard to believe with 6 people outside smoking. First things first: be prepared to spend some money…read more Second: do not expect fine dining. You can spend the same amount at places like Ruth's Chris, Sullivan's, or Angus Barn and get nicer décor and a more polished atmosphere. If you come to Beefmastor Inn expecting an upscale experience, you'll likely be disappointed -- and you'll probably complain about the tight seating, the long wait, the plastic tablecloths, or the iceberg lettuce. That said, Beefmastor has a charm that's hard to deny -- even if it can feel off-putting at first. The place is small and spartan. On busy nights, you will wait. You might end up seated near the bathroom. It's not intimate, and it's not glamorous. What it is, however, is the polar opposite of pretentious. Every inch of the place feels like old-school North Carolina: cinderblock walls, checkered plastic tablecloths, cottage cheese and raisins on the salad bar. The food is straightforward and unembellished. To be honest, I've had better steaks. I ordered the 10 oz., and it was a bit inconsistent -- velvety in parts, gristly in others, and slightly under-seasoned. But what I appreciated most was the feeling of stepping into a time machine. It felt like a snapshot of a different era -- before towns like Wilson faded and before chain restaurants took over every strip mall. Beefmastor Inn isn't perfect. My meal wasn't perfect. The service wasn't perfect. And it's not cheap. Still, I genuinely enjoyed the experience, and I think it's worth visiting at least once. If you have boomer family members, I can almost guarantee they'll absolutely love it.

The owner comes to your table with a giant slab of raw meat, you pick your ribeye size and temperature, make yourself a salad from the bountiful salad bar, and then you sit for the magic that awaits. I was expecting a good steak. I was not expecting a transcendent moment where it was just me and this gloriously marbled steak. Every perfectly cooked and well seasoned bite was better than the next. I almost forgot about the fluffy baked potato which was also great, but boy oh boy, the steak. Delicious. All the staff were super attentive; I don't think my sweet tea ever made it to half full. It was worth the hype and the hour long drive to Wilson, NC.

I have been quite naughty, and a good bit delinquent, on updating my review from 11 years ago?!…read more Sheesh, sorry about that! If you happen to pass through this quant well appointed town, and have a hankering for yummy Chinese food which boasts no use of MSG, then China Garden is your place! They have been around for many years, and are better than all the Chinese places in Ahoskie, NC as well as Franklin, VA (nearby towns on either side of Murfreesboro). All to say, we have tried so many of their dishes and have not ever been disappointed. To me that speaks volumes in and of itself! We typically order early or late lunch (to avoid the rush) and order all chicken lo mein (and minus the side of fried rice so as to get a larger lunch portion of only the chicken lo mein...which is one of my fav go to dishes). Their general tso has larger fried chicken type chunks for the dinner order vs the harder chicken popper style they use for lunch (both equally saucy of coarse). At our house its a 50/50 split on who likes which General Tso's style best...but as for me, I am the dinner style vote (just in case you were wondering). ;) The place is always clean and inviting. The prices are comparable to most of the other eateries nearby. The staff are always friendly, and are quick to prepare our orders both in "eat in" or "to go". This is just kinda our go to Chinese place for many years now, and am so grateful for all they do daily in serving up wonderful Chinese food for all us locals, and for those of you who happen to mosey on by and want to enjoy and savor a slower pace of life (even if for just a quick bite to eat). It truly is small town living at its best...but I guess you could say I'm a little bit biased, since I have lived near this area for 18 years and counting.
