I initially…read morewanted to hike Bishop Peak, but after looking at the AllTrails app, it appeared that the Bishop Peak hike had a "hard" rating. One of my family members is not a huge hiker so we decided to find a more moderate hike. I'd rate this hike a 3.75/5 on the difficulty scale. We started the hike ~2PM on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all. We completed the 4-mile hike in ~2 hours. You gain quite a bit of elevation during the hike as my Apple Watch recorded that I had climbed 1,000+ feet. It was sunny for 95% of the trail. There are some steep descent areas so wear proper shoes with adequate traction. There is a designated parking lot. Note, Google Maps initially tried to route us through Private Property by the Madonna Inn. Don't follow that route.

But you can see it once you see other people hiking the same route. The view itself on the way up is beautiful, your able to smell the ocean smell, enjoy the view and just take it all in. Really green everywhere, watch out for the cow droppings because they do roam. If you lucky you can see them afar enjoy their grass and space. I would say it was maybe about 1.5 miles back and forth, I want to try the loop next time but these was just a quick little hike before we stuff ourselves with food!

We were staying at the Sycamore Mineral Springs and the trail was just steps away. The path was easy, but as we got towards the end going at a slight incline, and in the full afternoon sun, we looped back to a nice shady spot next to the stream for a respite. It's a good mix of…read morea scenic hike, that also has some challenging parts along the way so you're actually getting a good workout in for the day. The out and back trail we took got us around the 3.7 miles that the All Trails app list. , elevation gain was over 1,000 feet so there's a good amount of climbing. The closer you get to the peak there are a lot of rocks so bring good hiking shoes. A lot of this hike isn't covered so make sure to bring a hat and sunblock, especially the summers months like when I went in mid June.
