West Seattle Smile Co. are definitely kind people & they do great work. I'll never take away from that and be totally fair with my review. Obviously you can read that from the customers reviews that they are a great dental office. However, just like what very few of the reviews have said, it's only after the procedure is done when you find out if your insurance covers the procedure or not. Prior to my husband's cleaning appointment, we were given the assurance that the procedure would be covered. Unfortunately, that was not the case at all & we were left with a 1k+ bill. The front desk rep kept insisting that she apparently mentioned that she gave us an estimate but the estimates are "not always guaranteed". But actually, we were only just told that we're expected to receive coverage but not exactly, "that it's not guaranteed". I will say though that because we couldn't come to an agreement over this issue, they did wait over a year to finally collect payment and gave a deduction to the balance. Again, I will emphasize that they are nice people. Despite that, we are still the ones at a loss as we literally could have gotten this procedure done for free. I guess moving forward, just complete transparency with details about insurances & "estimations" can come a long way before a procedure is done. read more

I highly recommend both Dr. Geoff, and Dr. Nicki to all who care to have excellence in dental treatment . The work Dr. Geoff did was excellent , and I often get compliments on my smile . He is passionate about his work , and cares to understand what your looking for as an outcome to your visit . Drs. Geoff, and Niki are very down to earth , and easy to talk with . I wouldn't go back if I didn't feel 100 % confident that they have my best interest as Number one in their treatment plan. From the time I walked into the office I was welcomed warmly with a smile . Best dentist and dental health team I've seen as an adult. No one loves cavities or other dental work, but Dr Geoff and the whole team are amazing. They have a wonderful understanding and calm energy and make every treatment I've had stress-free. I can't recommend them enough. I needed a crown, and was very nervous about the procedure, as I have high anxiety. The staff is so nice, and knowledgable, and I felt much more at ease after speaking with them. I've been going to Dr. Geoff and wife Dr. Niki Johnston and Team since they took over and launched their practice in this location 4 years ago. The entire team is knowledgeable, friendly, and always staying current with technology, and they deliver results. They have partnerships with local dental specialists that are equally awesome. They communicate well - via text message, email, phone, even a new app! My insurance is no longer in network, but they did everything they could to accommodate, help me understand out of pocket costs, deal with insurance company. I love this dental office. Pomella the dental hygienist is absolutely awesome!!! I see her regularly. She's gentle, super knowledgeable, provides great advice, does a very thorough cleaning, and a complete pleasure from a customer service standpoint. Dr. Johnston is equally as gentle, knowledgeable and pleasant. I have horrible genetics when it comes to my teeth. I've seen TONS of dentists and have had LOTS of work done over the years. I feel like Dr. Johnston gives me the facts and options I need to make the best decision for my situation. I don't feel pressured to go big on unnecessary (but nice to have) procedures. Dr. Johnston and his front office staff work with me on timing to get the most out of my dental insurance. If there is ever a question, he is on it and will quickly make things right. I have had an unreasonable fear of the dentist for a very, very, very long time, but after a freak accident and severely chipping my two front teeth I had no choice but to find a dentist. I am super grateful I chose this place. The team at West Seattle Smile Co. made me feel super comfortable from the first contact via phone and every moment thereafter. Office manager Cathy was super informative on the phone and help a lot with payment and appointment options following my initial visit. Jasmine was super personable, informative and walked me through x-rays, pictures, and telling me all about living in the heart of Seattle growing up!! Dr. Geoffrey continued the trend set by Jasmine. He explained my options and got to business. He made me feel comfortable and relaxed and we were able to get a lot of work done. Austin finished off a great visit. He assisted Dr. Geoffrey and then took the time to get my temporary teeth as perfect as possible. He took a lot of time making sure the temporary teeth fit well and looked good all while making me feel comfortable and interacting in conversation. I forgot to ask him about his love for Star Wars, but luckily I will be back for quite a few more visits. To top it all off, Dr. Geoffrey followed up with me later that night after my appointment to make sure I was feeling okay and to see if I had any questions. Had a great experience switching to this dentist Communication about my appointment was awesome (email and text) and the first time experience was easy. I just filled out some info on an iPad and I was all set. The office is clean and feels super new. Loved that Dr. Geoff uses a mouth camera to take pics and show you what you're teeth look like from his point of view. I also liked their brand of non-pushy dentistry. It's so nice to finally see West Seattle Smile reopen! There are a few changes- they're measure your temperature, you have to gurgle with a peroxide-listetin mixture before any procedure, but it's completely no problem. As usually all the staff is very friendly, professional and competent and really managing to put me at ease. They thoroughly communicated ahead of time, having you fill our all of the insurance paperwork and Covid paperwork before getting to the office. I found Dr Geoff Johnston and team through word of mouth. My previous dentist abruptly closed his practice and I was left hanging with a need to have a broken crown replaced. I had been with my previous dentist for 12 years, naturally I was anxious about finding a new one. I called West Seattle Smile Co and they found a way to get me in for an exam and crown prep the same day. Fantastic office. I had a great experience from beginning to end. From the front desk, to Eddie (who is fantastic) the dental technician to the woman who administered my novocaine shot, to Dr Geoff and his super personable and calming manner. This a great, friendly and welcoming team. Big plus for having a pride flag hanging in the windows of their front entrance. Dr. Geoff is fabulous! I had two implants done, and go to WS Smile for regular checkups and cleaning. The huge difference to other places is that Dr Geoff is knowledgeable and professional, but also kind and approachable. I once had tooth pain over a weekend and he called me back from home, offered to come in and see me. His team makes you feel comfortable and taken care of. The dental hygienist was very kind, gentle and diligent and the office was clean and approachable. But, one of my biggest concerns with seeing a new dentist is that they will try to sell me on a bunch of stuff I don't need, and that may have happened here. I am very diligent about scheduling dentist appointments every 6 months, and due to moves and a dentist on maternity leave, I have seen few different dentists over the past few years. Every dentist I have seen in recent months/years has said that while there are a few spots to keep an eye on, overall my teeth and gums are in great health. At this visit, the dentist came in and told me I needed an onlay and 5 fillings, which would cost ~$2,000. That took me by surprise, seeing that just a few months earlier my previous dentist told me all was good. I proceeded to get a second opinion with my trusted dentist in San Diego, and he was very adamant that I did not need any of the proposed work. I respect that there are different dental philosophies, and perhaps that's what happened here, but needless to say, it has left me skeptical. read more

Prior to my appointment, this office sent a text saying their billing process changed and said as a patient you needed to pay up front and you would be reimbursed later. They claimed they mailed a letter about the change, but that was a lie. The bait and switch tactic was very low brow. I'm disgusted that you took my $365 out of pocket payment, then rushed to schedule my follow up filling, which would have amounted to thousands of dollars out of pocket, in addition to my 6th month follow up visit, without mentioning a word about the change in coverage. Good thing I read my explanation of benefits before the next appointment. They even had the nerve to contact me before my scheduled appointment asking to move it up sooner, to what I can only guess, collect more money before I caught onto their charade and left the practice for good. For the record, we "changed the billing system" means you're now out of coverage and no longer covered. This is not pay now, and get reimbursed later - you're not getting your money back because they don't take Delta Dental. read more

I had a really nice visit today with everyone that worked at this clinic. Everyone was very caring about my comfort level. I had some work done that was a little bit painful, I opted to not have the numbing shot so they gave me something less painful to numb my gums. The hygienist was leaving her shift but came back to help me. The technician that was helping me was really amazing too. I came from a different clinic that was pretty awful. Night and day difference with quality of care. I will definitely be using this clinic as my normal clinic from now on. read more

This dentist's office has changed ownership. I was very happy with the former ownership, so it was much to my surprise when I showed up and my dentist was no longer there. As far as I know I was never informed of the change. The dental hygienist who did my cleaning went back and forth from typing on the key board with gloves on to then putting those gloved hands directly back into my mouth. I was shocked and horrified. That is basic hygiene 101. She should know better. The next time I went in it was a different hygienist who changed her gloves frequently and followed all hygiene rules appropriately. Part of the purpose of my visit was that I needed a new mouth guard. They gave me a quote and told me at most it should be $350, but that they'd call me if anything changed. Then they pressured me to make the mouth guard fitting appointments ASAP. I moved forward with the appointments under the assumption that they were going to let me know if the quote was different from what they said (as was promised). When I didn't hear from them about it, I followed up multiple times and they kept saying the insurance quote hadn't gone through yet and they'd let me know. Every time I spoke with them the office assistant said she'd "call me back in a few days" yet I never received a single call from her. I should have waited to move forward with the appointments, but I trusted them, which was my fault. Of course, one month later I got a $700 bill from them in the mail. The worst part is that the mouth guard doesn't even fit correctly. They did offer to fix it, but I am honestly so furious and fed up with them that I cannot go in there ever again. I feel that I was totally scammed. I was suspicious I was being scammed from the very beginning when the office assistant kept saying she'd call and never called. I wish I had gone with my gut and canceled the appointments. I will never return to this place and I highly recommend that you find a different dentist as well. I recently became a patient here after leaving my dentist of 23 years because their bathroom was inaccessible and I'm now in a wheelchair. OK, I won't say West Seattle Smile Co. bathroom is the best as far as accessibility, but the patient care has been exceptional. The staff is super friendly, Down to earth, and seem exceptionally competent, employing more technology than my previous dentist. For example, they have this really cool camera that takes pictures of all your teeth so both the dentist and I, and hygienist can clearly see what's going on with each tooth. Dr. Jeffrey gave me a clear assessment of my dental issues, and helped me prioritize based on timing and financial constraints. I highly recommend them. read more
