I've had my Mustang since 1997 so needless to say, I've been to a fair share of auto shops over the years. I was referred to Autoworks Restomod by another classic Mustang owner, and reached out to them through Instagram asking if they'd be able to help with the issues I was experiencing with my '66. My Mustang has quite a bit of aftermarket work done to it such as a 1989 5.0 EFI motor with an AOD transmission, power disc breaks, coil over suspension, custom wheels/axles, and a custom rear end, so it has been difficult to find a shop that could work on it. Even before ever stepping through the door, or meeting them in person, the level of service that I received from them was impressive. They were quick to respond, seemed genuinely engaged with my situation and the questions I was asking, and they were able to squeeze me into the shop despite the fact that they had a full garage of other classic Mustangs that they were working on. When I brought my '66 to Autoworks Restomod, it was barely drivable. I actually had to trailer it over to the shop because the rear ended had blown, and my car could barely drive above 30 miles per hour. From the start, the owner Matt, was personally involved with not only the initial meet and greet and diagnosing of the problem, but he actually was in contact with me throughout the entire time my mustang was in the shop. Thanks to Matt and his teams' thorough inspection and testing of my car, they were able to not only fix and replace the rear end, they also discovered a faulty break issue that could have been catastrophic if left unrepaired, and ended up troubleshooting and fixing an electrical/computer issue that I had been dealing with for over 10 years!! Words cannot express how happy I was the day Matt called me and told me that all of the issues that I brought the Mustang in for were fixed and it was ready to be picked up. I am so happy with not only the level of service I received but also for the quality of the work they did. All of the work was completed a few months back in 2021, and I have driven the car weekly and sometimes daily without any issues at all! This Mustang is my first car that I got when I was 16 years old, and I'm grateful to have it back on the road and running like it's brand new. We moved back to San Diego in the late 90s, and Banny Hom Jr has serviced all 3 of my cars, and dozens for the rest of my family. He takes excellent care of my 2021 Honda Civic, and I drive down to El Cajon from Rancho Bernardo just for him and his crew. Banny is so much more than just a mechanic and a business owner to his customers - to lots of us, he is a friend and fellow car enthusiast. I really have to pay attention to the clock when I pick up my car from him - he's so easy to talk to and if I linger for too long I will end up paying for it later when it comes to sitting in traffic on the way home, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't worth it. He's been able to figure out really annoying issues with my cars, and locate an obscure Honda service bulletin about a pervasive problem with the specific model year of one of my Hondas, a problem that plagued pretty much ONLY that year of a car model that spanned 5 years, ones that were made at a specific Honda manufacturing plant. With that service bulletin and the vague description I gave him of the "strange rattling noise" (we've all had that problem) I heard my car making, he diagnosed it. Banny is honest, thorough, kind, and explains things to me like I'm Michael Scott. He tells me exactly what he did to my car, what it might need in the future, how much it will all cost, and what I don't have to do right now if I don't have the time (or money). Most importantly, he will go out of his way to tell me WHY my car needs specific types of service and how it affects how the rest of the car runs. He has the kind of knowledge that only comes from being elbow-deep in this industry practically his entire life. Knowledge and know-how that you can't really get in a classroom even when you're sitting in a class that's supposed to teach you about this very thing...know-how that comes from doing. I am so, SO lucky to know him and his team as friends and reliable professionals. I know that my car is ALWAYS in capable, trusted hands. However I think at this point we might be more like family. Sorry, Banny, you're stuck with me until I'm too old to drive (and then some)!
