Had Harrison install a Baja Designs Onx6+ 50" light bar on my CanAm X3. Man it looked like they did a good job. Had good attention to detail so I thought based on the zip tie spacing on the wiring. Fast forward two months. night ride in glamis was going good until it wasn't and I lost my lighting... Come home and start to look at the wiring. Pull the fuse and relay. both were melted and that fuse blowing saved my 60 grand X3 from being the next car to burn down in glamis! Come to find out they used a wiring harness designed for the squadron sports!!! Very Very Frustrating and Dangerous! What a Fu**ing Joke! From what I been told his he has a reputation to do this! So I was looking for a part that was behind the counter, casually put my hand on an RC car that was on the counter, this white guy with beard and hat, (overweight) behind the counter . tells me 'wtf are you doing' I backed away and tells me to 'get the f*k outta here'. Later that day I am looking for a set of tires and I'm feeling them out, this same guy goes over to me and asks me 'you jacking off the tires?' In desbelief i mutter, 'what?' Second time I came in here today. First time I came in, waited patiently for 15 minutes before anyone even said hello. Employees in long convos with old customers and obviously didn't care about me. So I left. Figured they were having a bad day and I'd try again. Well tried again today. Same thing. It's pretty obvious they don't want your business. And after that 2nd miss I don't think I'll be back. I shouldn't have to beg the employees to acknowledge my existence. After reading the other reviews I'm kinda grateful they didn't work on mine. I went into this store knowing absolutely zero about RC cars. I took my 6 year old daughter and her $15 dollars of allowance she saved all by her self. When I first walked in I asked what is the lowest end beginner car we can buy... They pointed us to the AMP MT made by Horizon Hobby. For a $150 we got the car with everything we needed to just start driving right out of box. Car, battery, charger. This RC car is super fun and fast. Not done with this store by any means. Jamie and Spencer were very helpful with helping me get my Traxxas X Maxx back up and running properly. After buying a new motor for my new to me X Maxx it somehow got stuck in some training mode. After research online of how to recalibrate the ESC attempt after attempt I made I just couldn't figure it out. So called El Cajon Hobbies up and they were able to help me out. Harrison and the crew are great. They are all very helpful and always willing to answer questions. They can get quite busy so you just have to be patient with their time but they will help you out and are dedicated to getting your rig back on the road. One time Brian even took a part out of his own truck to fix my brother's crawler, free of charge, because they didn't have the part in stock. That's class. The shop itself is great for parts, and there's a little indoor crawler set up that you can ask to drive on. A lot of slash bodies, a few 12.3" crawler bodies, and proline wheels, tires, and foams are available here. Good selection of venom batteries. There's usually a custom rig or two for sale as well. Tamiya paint and supplies is available on the back wall. I find myself here a few times a week these days and am happy to give them my business when they have what I need over ordering online. read more

I bought a r/c car for my kids birthday we spend $1000,00 on it with 2 batteries. Turns out the first day we bought it the batteries wouldn't change so I went back and he said you're batteries are bad with a big attitude. So brand new he said he can't exchange or returns then because he doesn't do business like that. He told me to call the batteries company and they would exchange them. I did call and they said the batteries are old and they can't warranty them. So conclusion my kid never used the r/c and the batteries he sold me are old but new. I guess they went bad on the shelf. He sells bad batteries and tells you it's your problem now. Well I believe in carma what goes around comes around. read more

My husband and our 12 years old finally got back into playing their rc cars again. One of the batteries blew out so they went yesterday to get them fix. Idk which gentlemen that helped them (saw the receipt, his name is Spencer) but they were able to fix it right then and there within 10-15 min no problems. They end up getting a new, better battery. Awesome customer service!!! Today I decided to go back to get my husband a new toy he saw yesterday. End up buying the raptor rc and my son got his drone, the sale person John, were able to show us a nicer drone that were almost close to the same price as the one my son originally wanted. We had such a great experience that we are going back to get a new battery charger soon. We would not go anywhere else to get parts for their rc cars other than Hobbies. Paid almost 600 dollars for an RC car that won't connect to the controller. Went back to the store for help and the customer service was terrible. The guy that was there said he doesn't have time to take our car apart to connect it and didn't offer any type of assistance. The first time we went back to the shop was December 25th and he said we left the battery dead for over 2 days after using the rc car but it was a Christmas present that got opened on December 25th and battery was never charged prior to that. I do not recommend this place at all. Find a different Hobby shop. read more

I am a total rookie when it comes to RC products. I have just bought a RC Surfer 4 that the store is not carrying as they seem to be more specialized in trucks and cars. Harrison took his time with me and didn't make me feel like an idiot despite my rookie questions about batteries... Bottom line: excellent customer service, I will definitely recommend this store to my circle of friends and I will be back soon to get a truck this time. I took my Super Rock Rey in today to figure out why my rc wasn't steering fast he told me that I needed a bec for my rc I said ok he installed the bec and now it won't turn left then he says I have a bad servo I told him I just got it . And when I come back to pick it up he he didn't put it all back together the way it was when I brought it in . I shouldn't have to tell him how to do his job . He just gives me all my parts back that he didn't put back on he ain't very professional and he sold me the bec that I didn't need . I find out later all I needed was a glitch buster . And I asked him several times about it . And definitely said that I really needed a bec . I won't be going back here any more . But I will call them tomorrow and let them know read more

I have brought my son's Traxxas car here a few times for repair. In the past, after buying a part, the employee fixed the car on the spot and don't charge us labor for the repair. Today, the car wasn't operating properly and I thought we needed a new engine. I even told the employee my thoughts. After inspecting the car the he determined it was an engine programming issue. He reprogrammed it while we waited and didn't charge us anything for the work. I think it's great when small businesses operate with honesty and integrity. Thanks and keep it up!! read more

I've been to this place multiple times. Each time is very disappointing and tell my self I won't come back. I eventually do come back thinking they'll have more to offer and don't. they don't really service nitro cars anymore. Don't know too much about them when you ask questions doesn't even carry losi gas which is a very popular brand.. I wish someone would reopen hobby people! Ok. I lied. I've come back here several times. It's too close to home and the convenience is overwhelming. Customer service is dull, although they're usually very willing to help. They've always had the parts I need. They're really more of a parts store than anything else. If you're looking for RC car kits or ready to run cars, this is not the place for you. If you know what you broke and need parts, this is exactly the place for you. They have an ok selection of wheels, foams, and tires. It's nothing special though. I'm not sure if they do repair services or what that part of the business looks like, although I have seen a few customers bring in and pick up cars. read more

My husband happened to be browsing online for Games Workshop retailers, and this place came up. I was mildly incredulous, but sure enough, El Cajon Hobbies does carry some GW merchandise. Our first visit to the store was very underwhelming. The customer service was tepid at best (see non-existent), and we actually left without having purchased anything. I did peruse the GW merchandise, however, and noticed that the pricing was below MSRP, which was very unusual (and awesome). We decided to give the store another go a few weeks later when we needed some Citadel paints and had a much better experience. The staff members who helped us were extremely amiable, and we were encouraged to come back and play Warhammer during their game day. We have since frequented the store several more times, and I have really taken a liking to it. The pricing is extremely reasonable, and the staff members seem more than happy to take order requests on products they don't have in stock. While my first experience with the store was lukewarm, I will definitely continue to frequent El Cajon Hobbies after having several good experiences. read more
