I ordered avocado toast which came on soggy, barely toasted bread with just avocado, a few seeds sprinkled on, 3 small slices of watermelon, and an old, crusty dollop of hummus on the side for $16. Very disappointing meal. The woman at the register who took our order was not particularly friendly either. If you're going to charge Erehwon prices, your food better at least be Erewhon quality. I absolutely love the concept of JOI Cafe. It is such a pretty, clean space, and you are going to love exploring all the products and the amazing menu options. I loved my latte, especially the sugar-free vanilla they make on the premises. It was excellent, and I really appreciated that thoughtful option. That said, I was extremely disappointed with the gluten-free raspberry lemon muffin I purchased. I rarely write negative reviews, but this is something that really needs to be addressed. There was so much paper stuck to the bottom of the muffin that I had to cut off approximately a third of it just to remove it. I requested a second muffin, and unfortunately, it also had a significant amount of paper remaining. Food is too expensive today for customers to have this experience. This is not only disappointing but also a potential safety concern. There was muffin everywhere from having to cut off the bottom, and I even had to wash my hands afterward -- a bit much when you're simply trying to enjoy a muffin and coffee on a Sunday. I share this with kindness because I really want to see JOI Cafe succeed. I hope this quality-control issue is corrected because I would love to come back and have a better food experience. Came here for breakfast on a busy Saturday morning and was assisted by the friendly employees. I ordered a lavender latte with oat milk and French toast. So many menu options sounded so enticing so it was a struggle deciding what to order! The ambiance was very bright and eclectic yet warm and cozy all at the same time. I managed to score a table despite the crowd, but there is ample seating available inside and outside, including a communal table and some counter seating by the windows. My food came out fairly quickly but didn't feel rushed. They make it easy to order additional menu items at the table so you don't have to hop back in line if you don't want to. The lavender latte was sweet and earthy and very well balanced. It was creamy and well frothed and the espresso tasted very fresh. I absolutely loved the French toast. The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside and was very sweet and flavorful. I really loved the fresh berries, real maple syrup and coconut whipped cream. Everything worked so well together and it was such a decadent and filling meal. I also felt great after eating it and was easy to digest. Parking is super easy in their giant lot with lots of other businesses. They are located at the center of the shopping plaza and are easy to locate! I've had this place saved for a while now and since I was in the area I stopped by to grab a little snack. It's a plant-based cafe with lots of gluten free options. Inside seating with an outside patio. Big parking lot inside a shopping center. They had plenty of fresh pastries to choose from but the one that caught my eye was the cinnamon roll. I have been on the hunt for a good gluten free one and this one is delicious, I just wished it was warmed up. As for service, the cashier I had was a little rude. I asked a question about the cinnamon roll being gluten free as there was no signage and I wanted to double check and she looked at me like I should know better and then replied with a yes. Also when I asked for it to go, she just hands me the box; no utensils and didn't even mention where to grab any if they were near by. I love JOi Cafe and try to time my visits along 101 to mealtime so I can have an excuse to go. I haven't had anything less than delicious, no matter what I've ordered. I'm off gluten AND dairy so if you too have dietary restrictions, you MUST check it out!! Last week I got a Breakfast Burrito and Cortado coffee (pictured) then a Whoopie pie and cookie dough ball to go (not pictured). While that blew my diet big time, I was able to make it all last -- was worth it! The burrito actually lasted me two meals and the desserts were cut so I could make them last, as well. Lots of food that fit my diet. Sunday mornings there is a farmer's market right outside so it tends to be extremely crowded. This past visit I went early on a Saturday morning. I had my choice of parking and seat, service was quick and friendly, and I was out the door shortly. There are clear menus and lots of ordering options. Some of the items (like in the refrigerated case on the side) are out of my budget and nothing in that case had a price tag on it. I guess most of their patrons don't need to ask about prices (I did and it quickly became apparent that everything in that case is off limits for me!) Ingredients costs: $0.50 at most for the beans, prob 1/2 that as they will get in bulk and wholesale. Barista style oat milk: $0.34 retail, so again that will be cheaper. Cup (bulk price) $0.25, cost of espresso machine (commercial assuming a new one per year!) per cup less than $0.10. Labor (will be generous based on Google): $21/hr gives $1/drink. You guys this place is insanely good. Drove out from SF valley on a Saturday and this place was busy! Don't worry tho, it's located in a great complex so there's plenty of parking and seating. I ordered an Almond Milk Latte and their Blue Lavender Collagen Smoothie (made in a bowl) without granola. I am literally planning my drive back next weekend as I write this, it was that good. Latte was smooth, perfect level of foam and their espresso is great. Smoothie was the star of the show. I absolutely love the fact that you can get any smoothie as bowl (I'm always wanting bowls instead of a drink!) and the flavors of the bowl are perfect. Literally no notes! Service has much improved since my last visit. I also ordered the fajita chicken salad three days in a row. Got one extra large ranch on the side and a habanero salsa. It's enough for two but it's my only meal of the day. The Thai me up salad is great too. It's busy at breakfast times. Picking up orders is still a bit of a wait if there's a line. Nice little cafe, nice employees. Good for cyclists, hikers, and locals alike. Outdoor seating is nice, shade or sun. Farmers market in the parking lot on Sundays makes Joi Cafe even more fun. A combination of cinnamon, rich chocolate, Orange Zest & CBD with almond or oat milk. I prefer it with oat milk for extra creaminess and depth. The espresso is also strong and comes through + compliments the chocolate. I love that it's rich, but yet, not too sweet. The Joi Chai latte is another one of my favorite drinks! 2. Tacos (3.5/5) 1 order comes with 2 tacos. I got chicken and jackfruit 'Fish' with Fajita-Style bell peppers, onions, fresh tropical salsa, crisp cabbage, guacamole, and drizzled with sriracha aioli on warm organic corn tortillas. Comes also in chorizo for those who like/prefer pork. All of the ingredients were fresh. Wish they were not as skimpy on the proteins (chicken and fish). I went for the blue butterfly (thought I'd switch it up from my usual matcha- although their matcha menu is pretty elite with different flavor matcha drinks) which was a perfect choice- this drink was so delicious; perfectly sweet and creamy and steamy hot, i wish every cafe had this drink on offer so i could get it more often! Their to-go cups are the cutest also- love the design with the hummingbird on it- a little work of art cup. Joi Finding good quality coffee places that have consistently great tasting coffee, excellent service and the right atmosphere is really challenging in the Conejo Valley / Westlake area. Joi fits the bill; my Oatmilk Lattes are always superb as are my Cortado's- rich coffee taste with a creamy flavorful froth .. coffee is also organic. The pancakes which were brown rice, flax seeds, chia and hemp topped with strawberry,blue berries and bananas were very light which is not typical for most places that offer them.
