The sign on the highway said 24-hour donuts. So, I knew I had to pull in at 8pm on a Wednesday. We had dinner nearby and were looking for something sweet for the rest of the car ride. The door has the actual shop hours on it which indicated closure at 9pm on Wednesday. I was surprised by the variety of pastries on sale and even some fun looking shark donuts. Nothing had prices displayed, but the girl behind the counter was more than willing to share the info. I left with a small chocolate cream pie and a small chocolate chip banana bread. The cream pie was a little lack luster, but the banana bread was good! I paid $7 which I thought was high for the size and quality. What happened??? Super disappointing trip to Jolly Pirate. I was in town after being gone for 3 years and really wanted some Jolly Pirate donuts. My husband picked them up and I was so excited, until I opened the box... the icing was separating the way it does after it's a couple days old. The donuts tasted stale. Food: My daughter likes going here for donuts and a chocolate milk. We've stopped by a few times now. She enjoys the glazed donut w/ sprinkles and the carton of chocolate milk. I am such a huge fan of jolly pirate! The donuts are always delicious and the employees are lovely. The prices are more than fair, and I really like that they give you a 13th donut for free when you get a dozen! I drove out there this time specifically for the cheesecake donuts, and was sad to see that there was only one left. I asked the employee if there would be any more anytime soon and she said she was more than happy to make some up for me right then. I felt bad ordering a dozen of them but she was very pleasant about it and made me feel very welcome! I had been burned all three times I went to Buckeye donuts after I bought six or so at a time and ended up nearly choking on every visit due to how dry the donuts were...SO I went to Jolly pirate determined to not be suckered again! I bought a single tester Honey Dew (plain glazed cake basically) and sat right in the shop and tried it out. For 11pm on a Tuesday, the donut was actually decently moist- not amazingly so but given the time and compared to a Buckeye's it was great! So I bought a couple more cake donuts of various flavors and they were all 7/10 moisture vs Buckeye's 4/10. Great improvement.
