We found him through one of his StreetEasy listings, and although that apartment was no longer available, he scheduled a bunch of viewings of similar apartments in the West Village. He quickly came to understand exactly what we were looking for, and didn't waste our time showing us only places that didn't fit our search parameters. He gave us honest advice about the process and didn't try to upsell or change our mindset about what we were looking for. He loves his job and is obviously good at it; he's great with people (seems like all the doormen/supers in the West Village know and like him). The best example of his extreme professionalism and candor was when we ultimately decided to try to close on another apartment we'd seen prior to hiring him. Having had little experience renting in NY, and after dealing with brokers who were either not very knowledgeable about the units/areas or else entirely too busy to be much help, I was somewhat hesitant going into my meeting with Jonathan. From the start, though, he made me feel entirely comfortable, providing extensive information on the apartments, and taking the extra time to help go over logistics and all questions I had (of which there were many). He was so wonderful to work with, always pleasant and accommodating--even flexible with time--and when it came down to two units, one of which was significantly more expensive than the other, he did not push me towards the latter, but went over the pros and cons realistically. Not only did he end up reducing the broker's fee on the unit I ultimately went with, but he was available via email and phone at all times (even late when I was scrambling to get together paperwork), making the entire process much easier and stress-free. Looking for an apartment in NY city can be a horrible, stressful experience. Given the incentives, most brokers will try to make you settled for something below par just so that they can make quick money out of you and move on to their next client. I worked with many workers during my search and Jonathan was by far the most pleasant and agreeable to work with. He listened to my needs and patiently tried to accommodate them. We saw many places together and not once did I feel like he was rushing me or trying to convince me to take something that was not right for me (something other brokers did frequently).
