Easy to work with and very communicative. Viewing was quick and to the point, plus they offered for me to view other units that were going on the market. The only frustration is the hefty fee. (In response to the owners reply) Sunny exactly what strategy do you speak of? When we spoke last I refused your offer of 150-300 bucks (the amount escapes me now) to remove my review. You respond to me as if I have no just cause to write an honest review regarding my experience with Alpha. As I explained to your broker Michelle who stated that my review was hurting your business, it's not me that's hurting the business it's poor service that's hurting your business. A statement like that tells me that it's not about providing the best service for your client. I thought that was a very audacious statement she made. You guys don't understand and don't seem to care that your lack of due diligence in providing a service is now hurting me. Your service is not just about finding people an apartment. Any one with a phone and a computer could do it. As I explained to Michelle you guys are the experts. People are turning to professionals to help them navigate the tough NYC rental market, understand paperwork, ensure that there will be no perils and pitfalls such as renting an illegal apartment zoned commercial. When speaking to Michelle she stated that this was not disclosed, well many scrupulous landlords don't disclose illegal units. With all due respect Sunny as a professional and business owner perhaps you should train your brokers to do a simple check in the very public/free BIS database just to cover themselves and the brokerage. (If only I had broker to share this with me when relocating to NYC ) It may mean a delay in closing a client but I think its well worth it to spare your clients the heartache in the end and to save the reputation of the brokerage. The broker we worked with was with Joe Mor, and I am leaving 5 stars solely on the fact that he delivered what was promised. I just received the keys to my first apartment and though the moving experience was at times daunting, I am glad Joe was able to quickly find a place for me. On the day of the move he was accommodating and made sure that I received my Latch code combination, and asked questions that indicated he wanted things to run comfortably. I remember meeting Joe in person and thinking he was quite confident and knowledgeable about what he was doing. There of course is no such thing as a move without some form of anxiety undergirded with the experience. Because the previous tenants were moving out the very day I was supposed to move in, I was worried I would not get my keys on time. I was ultimately told to sit tight and wait, which of course left me a bit anxious. As aforementioned, however, Joe delivered. I think if I am to think about the ends justifying the means, then it was worth it because promises were indeed kept. We were also given a little bit of extra time to move our things during move-in day, showing me that Joe went the extra mile. Thank you Joe and Alpha Properties NYC! read more

I had high hopes for working with this company. Joe Mor was not the right agent for me, for a number of reasons. His brokers fee started at $2,100 and I asked if he could come down at all during the pandemic and he said he could do $1,500. Before he showed me the apartment he said I get first dibs because I am the first one to see it. The moment I told him I wanted the apartment he said I could have it but I would have to pay the full broker price. I didn't budge and I said ok, but I didn't appreciate how he suddenly switched his price when I said I wanted the apartment. I learned when reading the lease that landlord does not pay for heat and that the tenant pays heat. I had already switched ConEd to this new address because I was ready to move in and was approved for the apartment. ConEd called me to confirm the address change and in between this time I asked Joe M. what a ConEd bill would typically be a month. He kept telling me how "I really need a tenant that would not cause any problems to this landlord" "the tenant needs to be really easy going and not cause any trouble" "in all the years I have showed apartments no one has ever asked me how much an electrical bill is". I later found out from ConEd that a February electrical bill was $170, December $150, I have lived in New York 31 years, and never paid more than $110 for an even bigger apartment. What really bothered me, any time I asked Joe a question kept casually telling me how he really needs a "good tenant for this landlord" "someone that will be easy going and not cause any problems" I have a 750 credit score, I provided 2 years of proof I have paid my rent on time, references, and a guarantor. I told him straight up, anytime I ask you a question you come back with how I am difficult and you need a good tenant for this landlord and it doesn't make me feel comfortable that you feel l can't ask a question. To top it all off, he made things "difficult" because the woman couldn't even get out of the apartment on the 1st of the month and he asked me to wait at first 10 days then 3/4 days, leaving me to quickly find another apartment because I had someone moving into my apartment on the first. Joe Mor, don't tell a client that is paying you $2,100 that you met once for five minutes that you can't be difficult whenever someone has a legitimate question. Might sound strange but I doubt he would speak to a man the way he spoke to me. I am not saying don't use Alpha Properties of Joe Mor but the situation just didn't work for me. read more

I can see from all the negative reviews that I am not alone. I reached out to Joe about an apartment that was listed. On the listing it said to request a video tour since we are in the middle of pandemic. So I simply emailed Joe giving him the address that My Husband and I were interested in. I requested the video as well as asking if the apartment was still available. The response back was a simple sentence from him asking, "when are you looking to move?" Joe should have begun by letting us know whether the apartment we were interested in was available or not. This is a prime example of bait and switch. Heed the other reviews on here. Sunny contacted me and assured me that he has fired this agent based on my experience (see my original review), which as far as I'm concerned is exactly what should have happened. I can't speak to any other aspects of the business since understandably, I stayed far far away. Sunny is clearly up on his Yelp reviews and honestly I feel bad for any real estate business owner, as the agent bar is very, very low in this city. It really is about the professionalism of the individual agent, so I encourage anyone looking for a place to find an agent with some good references over a business with a good yelp review (both would be optimum but that seems to be asking a lot). read more

Crazy way to treat people! I was early to a showing, texted to say I was there. The broker walked right past me, let everyone into the building except me since he never confirmed the apartment number and I didn't know where to buzz. While i waited for a response to my txt I was cursed out by a family that came for the open house (i was never told it was an open house and since I need to move urgently I had all my paperwork and money ready to take the apartment on the spot). Only after I complained did the broker offer to let me in. Shocking, I left. There is such a thing as common decency and these people don't have it. read more

Lying, racist brokers. I sent an email request to see a place and got a response back asking me about move in date and lease terms. No biggie, I just explained what my boyfriend and I were looking for. Followed up and got additional questions about my income history and 'background' (these are broker Ranaan Laufer's words, not mine). I responded with a polite but firm request to set up an appointment to view the unit, which anyone with a license is required to do by law. It's why these leeches are allowed to take money off the top of a transaction without doing *anything* - they're supposed to SHOW YOU THE APARTMENT. No response. Got a price drop notification on StreetEasy so followed up again. No response. So, asked my boyfriend with a much whiter name than me to email separately. And, surprise surprise, he got an immediate response with possible dates and times to view the apartments. Definitely reporting them but tl;dr - avoid this racist brokerage. read more

This young man is incredibly hard-working, kind, and seems to genuinely care. While there were some hiccups during the process, he consistently checked-in with my roommate and I, providing us updates to the best of his ability. BEWARE! One of the most unresponsive and unprofessional broker's I've met, Omer. To start my appalling experience with him, I was inquiring about an apartment DAILY for a week and only after I was able to hunt down his cellphone number was I able to receive a response in which he told me there was an application already in, Okay fine. Finally, he did inform me that the application fell through and we scheduled a viewing. Upon my arrival to our scheduled viewing, there was another girl who he scheduled at the same exact time (??? not cool during COVID times if you ask me, every other place I had seen had appointments 15 minutes apart to ensure social distancing practices) but OK. The application process was a nightmare that lasted 8 days, and only A DAY before I was suppose to move did I get approval. Nearly every time I would call Omer during these 8 days to get an update he would not answer, and then text me hours later telling me his is another country so thats why hes lacking in response? TBH not my problem?? Like I HAVE TO MOVE? Then you shouldn't have taken on this apartment?! I understand that brokers have a lot of apartments to handle but the unresponsiveness and carelessness I received from Omer was on another level. To top it all off, after living in my apartment for nearly A WEEK, another broker from their agency COMES INTO MY APARTMENT UNANNOUNCED!!!????? I'VE BEEN LIVING THERE FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK ALREADY. Super scary as a women living alone in nyc to have a random person walk into your LOCKED apartment. Omer obviously did not do his job by informing his colleagues that this apartment was TAKEN. Insane. As they should, the company covered the cost of changing the locks but in my opinion that still does not rectify the complete lack of professionalism. read more

Really bad experience. Omer Levy, real estate agent double crossed us! Showed us 2 apartments in the same building. We put $500 deposit immediately. He pushed more expensive even if we preferred cheaper. He said no worries I will make it cheaper and remove walls, will be fantastic. Just apply for more expensive one ! Of course we believed and he of course deceived us! 2 days later, he said: Well, walls stays! Price stays the same! And other cheaper apartment is gone. We really felt terrible, plus, when we gave him deposit, we released apartment we had before. Careful with Omar! People are very vulnerable when looking for the apartment and company like Alpha Properties is supporting people like Omar. And Omar is taking advantage. So sad! . read more

I am writing this from a tenant's standpoint (they were showing my apt to others). My first broker at this place was Shawn Maman. He made me make a copy of keys for him which I dont think is protocol but I did it anyway. He then switched the broker to Joe Mor without telling me. Joe was probably 23 yrs old and very inexperienced. Then Joe started getting very aggressive in showing the apartment, he also took pictures of my apt without my permission and posted it on craigslist with all my personal items in view. He rearranged things in the apt for the pictures when I wasn't even home. I was away and he asked if he can show the apt in 5 mins (he had a key that I gave him) and before I could answer I got a text from my roommate saying he barged in while he/she was changing. Another time he asked to show the apt and I said no at which point he texted me repeatedly and called. The last straw was when I sent him a schedule to abide by and he started texting me about the times of the schedule and asking if he can show the apt at a time that was not on the schedule and when I refused he kept texting me. Joe also instructed me not to answer calls from any other brokers and told me he would "smash the other pricks." I complained to the company and they said they would take care of it. They assigned me Gal Gindi who was nice and abided by my schedule. However towards the end of the month I was finishing moving out of the apt and Joe unlocks the door with a potential tenant. Alpha reneged on their promise to keep Joe away from the apt, which I am pretty sure is illegal. I also received random texts from Shawn throughout this time who was totally oblivious to anything going on and was focusing on finding me a new apt. I dont even think a lot of them are licensed in real estate. My recommendation would be to avoid this company, or at least know to trust nothing they say and take it with a grain of salt. The company also told me that Joe was relieved of his duties but he reappeared on their website with a slightly different name. At least give him a new name right? It shouldnt be THAT obvious, if your gonna cut corners at least be good at it. read more

The employees are distracted & rude, and only run you through the mill. Their listings are nothing special; only seem to be what you can find anywhere online. Typical scammer estate agents. So behind the times. No need to make people feel so anxious and uncertain when they're picking the most important thing: their home. This company loves taking advantage of young people and immigrants new to the city who don't know the oldest scams in the book. Just avoid. And get everything they say in writing. Each agent thinks of themselves as some sort of wheeler dealer and suddenly the rent you've agreed on on is several hundred dollars more. Also ask them what each fee is for, guarantor, credit check, so many references, these don't all need a $100 processing fee. read more

We met Joe by chance when visiting a listing he was managing, and thank god we did. When he saw that we were not feeling that first place, he asked what we were looking for and our price range and was able to take us to 4 more places that same night. We ended up leasing apartment number 4 at a much better price than we were expecting. He also only showed us dog-friendly places because we said we had a dog--a refreshing change from other agents! We actually met Joe only after we had gone through a whole process of interview and full-day tour with another agency. Joe was able to show us 4 places that matched our criteria better than that first agency despite only knowing us for less than 1 hour. Listening really does make a difference! Joe then worked with us throughout the whole signing process and made everything very easy. He is a very laid back guy and we never felt pressured throughout the whole thing. 10/10 great experience. This review is specifically for the broker Mike Chang: Mike is a kind-hearted broker - the one that anyone would want when they are looking for a place to live. In the world of apartment searching, there are many lies and deceit, but NOT with Mike! He is a 100% genuine person, and a pleasure to work with. Very friendly. My first experience was in January- I had a friend living in Chicago who needed a place in NYC, but didn't have a chance to fly out here to secure an apartment. This friend asked me to do him a huge favor and meet up with Mike to look at some places... it was GREAT! Mike was awesome. It was cold, but he was able to take me around in his SUV. We saw 15-20 places, many of which were quite different from one another, which is a great trait to have when viewing places. My friend in Chicago chose one of those places, and when cashier's checks needed to be given, Mike met me at my office (all the way down in the Financial district) during my lunch hour to pick up the checks. Run, don't walk, the other way. This company is a scam. (Please also see my 5/24/18 update below.) Dean Hatuka took my $100 application fee. After a really shady explanation for why I was turned down for the apartment, I found and called the management company myself and discovered Hatuka had never submitted my application. He had pocketed the $100, which as it turned out was meant to be forwarded to the management company for the credit check. Alpha had conducted their own rental industry background check (as opposed to an actual pull from one of the three credit bureaus). You are legally entitled to a copy of this report, so I requested it and the report had said my positive credit, rental, and employment history resulted in a "recommend" rating. The number for this recommend, however, was 608, and Dean Hatuka decieved me by claiming this was my credit rating, which I knew for a fact it was not. He called me on the phone yelling at me "my credit is lousy". This was not only deeply insulting and unprofessional, but false. I complained to the executives at this company and I never received any reply from them. It was only a week after multiple calls and emails that they finally agreed to give me my $100 back. I had figured maybe this is one rotten broker in a decent company. It is not. That Hatuka still works there is indicative this behavior is sanctioned from the top. Also, the other reviews here show this kind of trickery is rife with Alpha brokers. Edit 5/24/18: As you can see from the aggressive and dishonest reply from the business below, they are not beyond giving out your private details and making false statements about your credit and income details in a public setting to take their vengeance out on you. I will seek the appropriate professional advice. read more

They are very misleading with their square foot estimates. They said our apartment was 800 sq ft. We could not visit it before signing a contract, and when we moved in, we measured it, and it was 400 sq ft. They were also very slow with returning the counter-signed lease. read more
