I cannot express how thankful I am that I found next step when looking for an apartment. I found an apartment through Next Step because they were connected with my employer. When we looked for apartments, I was only taken to three - the first was already rented by someone else when we arrived (a complete waste of my time and the agent should've been more prepared), the second did not have the number of bedrooms I requested so that was also a waste of time, and the last and only option they showed me was what I rented. The driver that they hired to take us around was reckless and we got into a car accident, which left us unable to see more than two vacant apartments. The agent kept saying that there were no apartments and that inventory was at an all time low, so I was lucky to even have the option that I ended up with. The lease that I signed was a building that had a rodent problem - and I paid a hefty brokers fee for it! Next step's agent said they knew the building well because they only partner with good buildings, and that there were no problems in the past. This was a complete lie, or they really have no idea what the status of the buildings are. I would not recommend Next Step - please go find an apartment on your own rather than paying these people an inflated broker fee for asymmetrical information. read more

I could not be happier with the service and work provided by Next Step Realty in finding an apartment for my boyfriend and me (shout-out to our broker, Hana, who was exceptional!) We were moving from NYC to Los Angeles and had 1 day in the city to find an apartment. A few weeks prior to our appointment we had a phone call with Hana and discussed all of our needs and wants for what we were looking for (budget, location, amenities, size, etc). She took the time to answer all of our questions and ensured us that we would be able to find what we were looking for. We arrived to the Next Step Realty Office in the West Village and met with Hana who had set up a listing of 10 different showings for us to see that day. We were driven around in a black car from showing to showing and had Hana with us to help us talk to the listing agents and facilitate the conversations. Every apartment that we saw that day was something that fit within our previous conversations of what we were looking for. When we walked into to the 6th apartment that day, we instantly knew that we had found 'the one'. From that point on, Hana facilitated the application process and approval process with the landlord directly. Fast forward 1 month later and I am writing this from the living room of our new NYC apartment and am very satisfied. Finding an apartment in NYC seemed extremely daunting and without the help of Next Step Realty we wouldn't have been able to find our dream apartment. Saw a good amount of options. Were fairly responsive to questions. Wish he had been a bit more upfront about the ability to put applications in at multiple places. We wanted a place that was significantly more suited to our price range but was told by him that the application would be very complex and difficult so we should not consider that option. Wish he would have told us to hedge our options earlier so we could put a deposit somewhere else while still pursuing the more risky, cheaper option immediately. We did this a day late, had to come up with the idea on our own, and missed out on the cheaper apartment. It felt like he was not upfront with us on our options when we clearly indicated our high interest in the cheaper option. And there was no urgency on his end to get this application delivered since it had to be delivered by hand. Overall, was a bit disappointed and didn't feel like the most transparent process.. read more

These realtors were the most unprofessional, untimely, and confusing I've ever had. There are family members and siblings working here together, which would be fine... Except that I was given a timeframe and the promise was not met THREE TIMES. So to clarify what was going on I asked a series of questions and my realtor gave my number out to a different realtor (his own sister) who called me out of the blue and literally said the words "just calm down" in a condescending and angry voice. I not once raised my voice nor did I blame my realtor in the first place (in hindsight, I really should have). She was completely rude and unprofessional. It was like a little boy telling on his friend to his mommy. I felt like I was dealing with a fifth grader and his crazy mother. Nothing was ever timely and none of the promises that were made were kept, and my brokers were even late to the lease signing. The worst brokers I've ever worked with. I suggest finding different brokers or even doing the search yourself. Their demeanor and lack of knowledge/professionalism is NOT worth 15% of whatever they do for you. Probably not even 1%. read more

What a fantastic experience! We had a complicated situation: two new graduates coming from Boulder, one set of parents in Wisconsin, and another in Los Angeles. I called Next Step and was warmly and courteously greeted by a sweet girl at the front desk. Within an hour, I received a call from Victoria Scott, our broker guru and angel! She listened attentively to our needs, was very positive and encouraging although our budget was relatively low, calmed us (me, particularly!) when we got nervous, coordinated among us all--no small feat when dealing with 4 time zones!--and ultimately, with great speed and efficiency, found our two new New Yorkers a perfect place to hang their hats :-) Victoria continued throughout the weekend to orchestrate the movement of funds and remote signing of leases.
