Worked with Deborah Moghaddam from City Connections and I'm glad I did. Anyone who has ever sold a property before knows, it isn't easy (Truth be told, it's actually a nightmare). But Deborah handled everything. First of all, she worked to have the property listed in several public (and private) listings and naturally we found a few buyers right away. Of course they low-balled us. Nothing is more insulting when you're trying to sell something and someone low-balls you. Deborah always kept her cool. And not only that, she truly is a masterful negotiator. We went from a low ball offer to having one buyer offering WAY OVER MARKET VALUE! And Deborah handled everything, the building inspector, the showings, taking all of the pictures, the back and forth between the buyer for every single question they asked. You name it and she handled it. And when it came time to close the deal, Deborah was right there in the board room to make sure the buyers didn't try to pull a fast one. And anytime the buyer tried to renegoitate the already agreed upon terms, Deborah was elegant yet firm in reminding the buyers what the agreed upon terms were. I thought long and hard before writing this review, but after seeing the 1 star reviews on here, i can confirm they are indeed true. I was working with a realtor on a few apartments of interest. We are in a pandemic so its a renters market (sorta), given some places have dropped slightly in price, but not by much. Yes, many places are giving 5 - 6 months of free rent, but the actual prices haven't dropped by 80%. I guess that is what makes NYC so special. They charge an arm and leg no matter if the city is in a pandemic, or not. As long as greedy landlords and developers exist...one will get overcharged. Anyways, i realized shortly after working with the agent, he seemed very disengaged. He just seemed completely disinterested in helping me. I am not sure why. I told him exactly what i was looking for (i.e. onsite super, rent stabilized, duration of lease, management company, something close to the train, soundproof windows, etc.). These are just standard stuff any renter would ask to ensure they do NOT get swindled. We all know realtors are evil. They'll do anything to close a sale. When i ask questions about a specific unit, they all LIE. How would they know anything about that specific unit if they do NOT live there? Exactly. You know what i mean. Weeks have gone by and the realtor is MIA. Just zero interest in being a realtor and helping me. I got the HINT so i stopped reaching out. The last i checked, they are commission based so there is ZERO income if they aren't making people sign leases. I must have misread the news when the kept saying NYC rentals are in the dumps and realtors aren't making any money as a result of the pandemic. Plus, the news said people are on the verge of eviction and so on. I guess the news was wrong. I really have no idea why the agent doesn't respond. I am trying to move, and i am not getting any traction. The thing is, no one is asking for someone's kidney, a blood sample, or first born child. I am just asking for a unit that is up to my standards. If it isn't good enough for the realtor, then it isn't good enough for me. That is the rule. If you want 50% commission for being a useless tour guide, then please start doing dips, slips, cartwheels, and twirls with pink pom-poms and glow sticks to earn your money. Unbelievable on so many levels. I won't ever be using their services again. Word of advice: PROCEED WITH CAUTION. You know what they say: OF COURSE HE KNOWS THE DEVIL. Ana was absolutely amazing when my boyfriend and I were looking for our apartment. We were only looking in a limited section of the West Village, and had done countless hours of research on Streeteasy and other sites before we met with Ana. We reached out to Ana about a specific listing that we saw online--you know, those 'is this too good to be true?' ones that seemed to be exactly what we were looking for. After other brokers were unable to get access to the unit (the building's management company is very strict), Ana got us right in and with a smile on her face--she was clearly well liked by the doormen! Afterwards, instead of just showing us more units that we had already seen online, or worse taking us to listings that weren't what we were looking for, she showed us several additional options, all of which were amazing--spacious, under or in our budget, and new to us. Throughout the lease signing process, which the building's landlord regulated extremely tightly, she could not have been more patient and helpful. We ran into several hiccups with application processing and each time Ana was there to guide us through and reassure us. I've recommended Ana to several friends since. It can be tough to stomach the additional fee for a broker, but Ana is worth it--trust me! Coming from someone who tries to avoid it at all costs. Bravo! This place delivers the classic bait-and-switch ploy, advertising a modest but still nice-looking one-bedroom apartment in Harlem for $995/month. Yes, that's super cheap, so I wasn't expecting much - but this was just totally unacceptable. I'm surprised a "real estate company" would actually represent a property like this. Before we even begin, Randy shows up 30 minutes late then proceeds to take us to THE WRONG BUILDING. When we finally get to the right one, it looks like a crack house out of the Bronx from the 80's. Run down, dirty, smells weird, drug dealers in and out. Doors on the front of the building don't lock - no keys needed to get in and out. The apartment itself is ridiculously disgusting. Nothing had been changed or renovated in that place for decades except the kitchen counters. A place like this with no safety should definitely not be $1k/month. I've seen wayyy better for the same price. So, on to the next spot. This place is $1075/month and is nicer, bigger and newly renovated. SO newly renovated the place isn't even finished yet. How can you show an apartment when it was just freshly painted, all the windows are closed and the fumes are unbearable? Oh, and let's not talk about the safety hazards all over the place with wood and tools everywhere. But wait! We couldn't even GET IN the door for a good 20 minutes. Randy broke the doorknob off and had to call the super to come open the door. The thing was totally jammed and he basically had to break it down so we could get inside. WHAT is with these places that CCR decides to show? Here comes the kicker - the broker fee is $2k. Excuse me? But my frined found YOU. She did not call you and hire you to find her an apartment. Why do you get 2k for just showing us the place? I'm not really sure i care about your "exclusive" listings - simply because they're all crap. Our "agent" was rude, cocky and kept his iPod headphones in most of the time he was with us and barely engaged in conversation about what it was my friend was looking for, her budget, preference in location, anything. It was a really poor experience and I would never use them myself. It was a waste of three hours just to view 2 god-awful apartments that rats probably wouldn't want to live in. read more

My husband and I had a great experience with our broker, Devin Bokaer. We saw an apartment on Craigslist that we were interested in, dialed the number of the broker on the ad, and scheduled a time to check out the place. Devin was on time and was immediately very friendly. To our dismay, the place he showed us was unfinished and was not exactly what we were looking for, but he told us he had several other places he could show us in the neighborhood. He was extremely attentive to our desires and didn't try to convince us to see anything out of our price range. Over the course of a week, Devin showed us somewhere around fifteen apartments, which was no easy feat in the middle of the July heat wave. Eventually, we found a great place in Hamilton Heights and we jumped on the opportunity to get it. Our apartment is the perfect combination of good location, awesome price, and a great amount of space. After all the help we got from Devin, we felt justified in paying the broker's fee. He definitely earned it! Even after we signed our lease, Devin helped us by answering several questions as we prepared to move in. We highly recommend City Connections and would use Devin again if for some crazy reason we ever decided to move out of our amazing new home. read more

Not sure where to begin. Unfortunately rented an apt through them to find out the Sq ft was much smaller than what they advertised. They lied about what was included and found myself without ac and having to rent a hotel over the holidays. Rude and hard to deal with, they only care about closing. After first agreement was signed, they disappeared and avoided answering any questions or let me see the apt for measuring and understand what furniture I could bring. She was almost hard to keep up with as she was trying to show me as much as I wanted in my price range. She's super knowledgeable about the areas, the market and is willing to work her hardest to get you the place you're looking for, and is not afraid to tell you if you need to go higher in rent or look at other places. City Connections Reality overcomplicated the rental process and far overcharged for their middle man service with both a large application fee and a broker fee (when they did not even find the apartment). Sarah L had us provide every sheet of personal records she could ask for and a ridiculous amount of notarized signatures, without even providing us with final signed copies of the lease. We were set up in an apartment that had a shady management company (with a direct connection to our broker at City Connections Reality) that tried to scam us out of our security deposit. Before our lease ended, and without our permission, City Connections Reality began showing our unit (which was still under our lease) illegally to new prospective tenants. Go landlord direct or reach out to another broker about the apartment you found online. read more

The Dynamic Duo of Rosemary and Wen made my apartment search painless. My company is relocating me from our Los Angeles office to our New York office. Having lived in NY before, I was dreading the inevitable apt searching madness. A week before flying out to NY, I began to peruse apartment rental sites. I found Rosemary through a listing and she responded quickly and patiently to all of my worried questionings. In preparation for our call she sent me real time video files of the apartment, the surrounding area, the lobby, and the amenities. Then during our call she re-showed the apartment meticulously, throwing in ideas for furnishing and again answering all of my questions. I felt comfortable and absolutely satisfied enough to submit an offer even before my trip to NY!! She sent me the application and listed the approval steps. Rosemary was very professional, super friendly, and easy to work with. Then I had the pleasure of meeting Wen through email. She walked me through the board approval process and also patiently answered all of my questions. Wen too was very thorough and quick to respond. I could tell they were working diligently behind the scenes to make sure that both the landlord and I were comfortable enough to proceed. It took a few days of back and forth negotiations but Rosemary and Wen kept me updated and calm. I have to admit I even texted Rosemary late in the evening eastern time and guess what? She still responded quickly and thoroughly, offering to call me to put my worrying mind at ease. These two are simply amazing and a delight to work with. I can't recommend them enough. I still haven't flown to NY yet but I had to tell Yelp about these two. It is difficult for agents to put a type A person on the opposite coast at ease enough to rent an apartment without even looking at it in person. For the past six years we have used Adolfo Brenes as our agent to rent our condo unit in Manhattan. He never failed to find us good tenants in a timely fashion. When it came time to put the unit up for sale there was no question that Adolfo was going to be our go to person. He was always very communicative and responsive during the process. Adolfo always listened to our concerns and was willing to give his advice without any pressure to accept an offer. He made all the arrangements to show the apartment and there is no doubt in our mind that his knowledge of the real estate market and his personality led to finding a qualified purchaser in a quick fashion. I wish I could submit this without a star. Hmm, I guess I can justify a star for a working phone number. So, my SO and I are looking at apartments because our renewal lease is coming up. It's rent stabilized, but a little small, so we'd like to see what's out there before we commit to another year or more. I was looking through Craigslist ads and saw an apartment and called the number... the broker, a Randy Baruh, told me immediately that the apartment was taken, though he had more. He proceeded to tell me he had more available, but did not ask me what I was looking for, nor the sizes of the places he was listing off (which, I suppose, makes sense when he didn't ask me which apartment I was referring to in the first place - weird). He asked me when I wanted to move, and I told him that I didn't have a set date, but could move immediately if we found the right place. He then told me that he had exclusive deals with x number of landlords with over 2000 apartments, and that he had 20 people working under him and that I should call him when I was ready immediately. I reiterated that I would be if I found the right place, and that would probably take actually hearing about the places and maybe seeing them (hint, hint). He also suggested that I just not sign the renewal on the lease and call him when the lease was up. I told him I didn't feel comfortable just giving up the lease and hoping for an apartment in 30 days. Anyway, the phone call was a total fail, and I'm just trying to add my $0.02. That broker is a Douche McGoosh. WARNING about the City Connection Realty. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN The Client Registration Sheet when the broker or salesperson show you the apartment and stating that "this is just to prove that I represented the client". I was fooled. Mr David Dunkin was the agent of CCR who threatened me to take legal action on email if I don't pay his broker's fee because I turned on his back and was planned on signing a lease with another broker. He even got the listing price of the rent wrong (much higher). AVOID THIS PLACE. It's A SCAM!!! TONS OF CON-ARTISTS. There's something VERY SHADY about any Real Estate world but this place has their own lousy sneaky business strategy to coax customers. read more

I was very impressed by his in-depth knowledge of the housing market, the location, and the network he had. This is my second time I have rented an apartment through City Connections with the help of broker Elliot Adler. I have been very impressed with his professionalism and helpfulness. When my current landord decided to sell my current apt I called Elliot and he worked with me to find the right unit within my budget. I was on a tight deadline to find a place and had some special requests and he was very attentive and hard working. Elliot genuinely takes the time and wants you find a place that makes YOU happy. I was definitely surprised by the amount of kindness and concern he had. He was great communicating with me and readily answered ALL of my questions in a timely manner. The one thing that I really appreciated about Elliot was that a few minutes after I said I wanted the studio he made me take all the necessary steps as I watched him take it off the market. Yes, really just a function of the messed up rental market in NYC. BUT HE DIDN'T EVEN GET THE INFORMATION ON THE PLACE RIGHT. Little things, you know, like laundry not existing in the building. At the lease signing he barely even said hello to me much less introduce himself to my boyfriend. Ey ya. It's just not that hard. So no bait and switch for me, but I responded to a very specific ad. So I just finished looking for an apartment with COLE WASHINGTON. HORRIFIC. He was late both times with met with him on the same day. One apartment, he was so late, another broker showed us the place, and let's not go so far as to call it an apartment, it was a dingy room, like something out of the projects. Beyond that, he didn't even have access to the apartment, we would not have been able to see it if that other broker hadn't been there. Then when we found something passable... and I mean passable, he kept repeating "this is the best you're going to find, this is the best" when I told him I needed a couple hours to think about it, he was snotty and rude about my taking my time thinking about my first place in a new city. Then we went to Citi Habitats, worked with Habas, and she found us something totally great, at a lower price than anything Cole showed us, and was really pleasant going through the application process. ALSO Cole tried to get us to put down a $750 deposit, which would not be refunded to us if we went with another broker. um.... HELL NO. read more
