I had a big upholstery job with many pieces to do ranging from a large sofa and daybeds to small, decorative cushions. My Interior Designer friends were too busy to touch it, so I had to resort to Yelp to find a reliable local upholstery shop. I'm SO GLAD I did. Jonathan Upholstery came to my house, gave me an estimate, told me how many yards of fabric to get and made the whole thing so easy. Best of all, the workmanship and finish was superb. Really the best I've ever seen (and I regularly work with Designers). I will only ever use Jonathan in Los Angeles. They gave me a fair price (including a discount for doing multiple pieces) and came in under budget (roughly $2,000 less than the nearest quote) and on time. I brought a chair to be reupolustered at Jonathan's and the results were amazing. I told them the history of the chair and it's sentimental value. They stripped the chair, reinforced it, did all the heavy lifting required to bring it back to it's natural and original beauty. I could not be more happy with it. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I came into the shop to speak with Juan Gonzalez, the owner, and brought pictures requesting an estimate for an 8ft sofa, an oversize chair and ottoman and a 54" daybed (oversized ottoman),. He emailed me the estimate - it took 6 emails back and forth to get a complete estimate as he would give a quote (without fabric amounts required) and say "plus pick-up and delivery was extra" When I questioned about that charge, it was $440.00 extra. (I live 4 miles from his shop.) That should have been in the first quote. His estimates for the couch, chair and ottoman were so high that I could get the exact same furniture new from Kreiss with their loyalty discount for just a few dollars more, which I did. For the 54" daybed (oversize ottoman), he quoted me $480 for just a slipcover. He quoted $780 if I wanted it upholstered and a slip cover. Plus $360 for pick-up & delivery. That's outrageous. I found another shop that quoted me $150.00 for the slipcover and $250 for upholstery - for a total of $400.00 Plus they picked it up for free and charged only $25 for delivery. Their office is 12 miles from my apartment. They did amazing work in about 2 weeks. Juan may do good work, but is it worth it?? read more

I couldn't be happier with the beautiful job they did placing my grandmother's vintage curtains on 2 arm chairs, 2 desk chairs, & 2 specialty chairs that required special attention. I almost cried they were so beautiful!! Not only were they patient, careful, & courteous- I felt they really cared about their service. Not many people left in business I can say that about. My husband and I admit: we are frighteningly fussy. Working with Juan and the team at Jonathan Upholstery was a wonderful experience and exceeded our fussiness standards. Juan is a true craftsman -- an "engineer" of upholstering. We can't say enough about the personal attention he gave to us, determined to make our uncomfortable sofa just like a new one. He rebuilt the base of our sofa, remade the cushions with a wonderful foam filler (which we were able to "try out" first in the shop), and reupholstered the sofa perfectly with our custom fabric. We found his pricing to be very fair; Juan was on top of the job the entire time; the turnaround time was faster than he estimated; and pickup and delivery were EXACTLY on time! I brought two of my leather couch cushions to Jonathan's Custom Upholstery to be repaired as they were slightly damaged due to 5+ years of your average wear and tear. For a very reasonable price, my couch cushions are now as good as new. The customer service as well as the craftsmanship is impeccable here; and for that reason I will not go anywhere else for any of my furniture repairs. They can custom make your furniture for you too - I'm definitely going to take advantage of that in the future. I wish all businesses were as wonderful as this small business. I found JCU on Yelp. Frankly, other shops I had called thought my job was too small to even return my call. Not these guys. I sent email photos of the four very different chairs to JCU for evaluation. They gave me a price on three, but we agreed I had to bring by the fourth so they could determine what to do on a more difficult job. Even though the fourth chair needed some reinforcement, they took on that work, too. We agreed to a fair price for that one as well. Just as I was told, the chairs were ready on time. More importantly, they did a much better job than I even thought they would do. Adding piping because it looked good. Placing jute straps across the bottom of one chair to add support. Tremendous work! One more point to make: these guys are incredibly friendly. They reacted to the material I brought, and not in a phony way, and had an immediate take on how to lay it out on the furniture. They were a joy to work with. read more
