i took my kids here on a recommendation. Every time I call, nobody bothers to get back to me. You can leave voicemails and keep calling, they neither pickup nor call back nor respond to medical questions in a timely manner. This is an awful practice. They sold me glasses that don't really work well. I am very disappointed that they don't call back. Go somewhere else. It's not worth it. read more

Every year when I come for my annual exam there is a huge delay. I just waited for an hour and finally left when the doctor was not ready yet. Recommend finding a doctor with more reasonable wait times. I myself will be switching this year; it's getting to be ridiculous. read more

Dr. Eisenberg is fantastic. Solid and thorough optometrist! The lab they use leaves a lot to be desired. They dented my expensive frames. It took them three months to make the first set of lenses for me. When I got them back, the centers were off so they had to be redone which took another few weeks and then the lenses were loose in my frames.... I'm a city employee and they also don't take my insurance since I switched insurance, so I will not be going back there for many many reasons. read more

Dr. Nadine Eisenberg is simply the best around. She is genuinely interested in providing the best personal care for her patience. She's well up to date on new treatments and procedures and goes out of her way to answer any and call questions. She really is the best OD in the city. If you have Keratoconus, she is VERY helpful on that front. The staff at Cooper Eye Care is always very professional, quick to respond and very personable. Having a team of doctors is also very helpful in an emergency when you need to be seen right away, which is a huge plus. Going to the eye doctor isn't the highlight of the year, but they certainly try to make it that way. Could not recommend enough! read more

Beware Mia the shark! Dr Cooper has been outstanding for 20 years. We can't say anything but kind things about him. The other Drs too. But BEWARE Mia the glasses sales person. She pounces as soon you exit the exam room, with a polished and convincing pitch. Mia sold another patient glasses that never fit despite return visits & insincere promises. Unfortunately, I didn't heed that person's warning. I thought, "How bad could polite & professional-seeming Mia be?" Well... very bad, and skilled in low forms of cunning. Mia showed me glasses that did not fit; she assured me that was just the "trial pair" and she would have the right size delivered. In between, she heated / bent frames to fit on my subsequent visit. She lied that "size had come in." I was suckered, buying what she wanted to rid from her stock drawer. Within weeks, the glasses returned to their original shape, as plastic will. The READING glasses might stay on my head--unless i inclined my head to READ. A visit to another eye clinic revealed that Mia had simply lied. She sold me a pair TWO SIZES too SMALL. Have to hand it to her for slick and polished sales techniques, but subtract from the overall rating for her consistent dishonesty. read more

I don't think I have ever had an optometrist go through ever single little detail and be so thorough as much as he did. It was hard to find the entrance because it's through the lobby of what looks like a residential building. You ask the doorman, and he takes you to a door that leads to a small staircase to the dungeon. Then there is a sign for a waiting room. However, after that, it was all fine! I guess that's what you have to do when you're on Park Ave! There was some initial paperwork to fill out. They were running around 20 minutes behind, which is not terrible. I was called in and they did a very quick exam with two machines. Then I waited outside and came back to see the actual optometrist, who was awesome. Super friendly, and explained things in a concise yet helpful manner. She rechecked a few things, including for glaucoma, and gave me the prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses. It was quick, professional, and they didn't try to up-sell me anything. read more

Wow! This place is on top professional! The receptionist was very accommodating since I had to call back twice to reschedule within the same day. I was seen by Dr. Vanessa Conenna. She is Fantastic with a capital F :) The reason I came here is because I was interested in OrthoK. After the assistants mapped my eye and ran some test, I was seen by Dr. Conenna instantly. Dr. Conenna reviewed my test and was very honest and stated that I am not a good candidate because 1) My mophia is way too high ( -6.5 & -7 ) and 2) I have a mild eye disease known as keratoconus :( With that being concluded, I am not qualifed for Lasik as well :( I am so glad that Dr. Conenna informed me because I was THIS close to getting Lasik done (even though the lasik office stated that I was a GREAT candidate for the surgery, which will not be named) I really appericaite Dr. Conenna for being completely honest with me. There are a lot of doctors out there that will eat up your money! Luckily, I found her :D I will be coming back once I get my insurance! read more

My employer recently switched insurance providers which left me unable to see my normal optometrist (which in hindsight may have been a good thing). I came across Cooper Eye Care (specifically Dr. Eisenberg) after doing a brief search on ZocDoc for optometrists in NYC that accepted my insurance. Dr. Eisenberg and Cooper Eye Care had raving reviews on ZocDoc. After my visit, I now know why. The office and waiting area were clean and welcoming, and the receptionist staff was great and clearly explained which benefits were covered by my insurance. After a faster-than-expected wait time, Dr. Eisenberg conducted a thorough exam and quickly identified pre-existing conditions (always a good sign) and offered a new, more cost-effective approach for contact lenses (for my astigmatism) that had not been proposed by my previous two optometrists. I walked out of the office with better fitting contacts at a fraction of the price that I was paying before (regular vs. toric lenses). I highly recommend everyone to schedule an appointment with Dr. Eisenberg at Cooper Eye Care. read more

My eyes aren't too dilated to pen an honest review. This was sincerely a racket. Dr. Cooper, who was impatient and bordering on rude, seemed knowledgeable, yet most of the responsibilities were foisted his aides (who did appear competent).. As a new patient, you're compelled to sign an agreement to accept any charges for any treatment they may deem necessary..pretty standard, right? Wrong. The doctor was giving me a standard exam for contacts (I wanted to update my prescription). This normally costs in the realm of 40-60 dollars. My bill for 45 minute here was around 225$. For what? For what they call a "fitting". They give you a pair of throw away trial contacts and then having you blink while looking in every direction. So that they can tell if the lenses moves on the surface of the eye as they should. This 1-minute action and the 2 throw-away lenses cost appx 140$ alone. As most insurance cover EITHER contacts or glasses, he knew that I was interested only in contacts and urged me to buy glasses from their practice. I declined and then only later realized that he was trying to maximize the amount of money he could squeeze out of my visit...not simply to make sure my vision was healthy and normal. I'm not going back. The visit was not entirely covered by my very good VSP eye care plan and I was left with appx 100$ to pay out of pocket..this NEVER happens form a standard exam; they are covered in full by even bad eye care insurance plans! More frustrating is that now I won't be able to use my unused balance on glasses until January 2012. However they suggested I buy a year supply of contacts from them at 40$/box. These people are shysters; unfortunately with valid credentials and enough competence to get by being unscrupulous business people. The contacts he "suggested" were also exponentially more expensive than my current contacts that have never offered any problems. The office is subterranean so it seems that they are aiming to maximize profits and eliminate any real overhead...never never again.. I just asked for my prescription and will buy lenses online. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Dr. Covalito and the staff at this optometry office are superb. I have been a glasses wearer for quite a long time and I have never had a doctor develop rapport like she did. She was even able to address issues with my ability to converge on objects at close distances. I knew that it had always been an issue for me but she gave me some great eye exercises to work the muscles to improve my ability. I also have a computerized exam today and so I wasn't able to get my eyes dilated. She has a machine that takes a picture of your eye without having to dilate. This, for me, was a lifesaver. The optician was not in when I finished, so I was unable to choose a pair, but the doctor spent about five minutes with me talking about some options, and she left them on the desk for the optician to call me on Monday. This visit was pleasant, easy, and quick. I booked my appointment through ZocDoc and was able to fill out medical forms online, which made it all the speedier. I would definitely recommend this office to anyone looking to get an eye exam. read more

This was my first visit to Cooper Eye Care and I will probably never look for an eye doctor again. Dr. Colavito and the staff here are great. I am typically a pretty nervous patient when I go to the doctor, but Dr. Colavito was kind and professional and built a great relationship with me throughout my exam. I saw her before work, so I when I expressed concerns about having my eyes dilated she quickly assured me there were other options and instead photographed my eyes with a machine rather than dilate them. She addressed a few concerns and made me feel at ease with some of the issues I'd been having. I didn't need new glasses, so I didn't try on any glasses, but from the looks of it, they have a really nice selection. I will definitely recommend the office and Dr Colavito specifically in the future. read more

I am not, however, able to give them a full five stars because I have had instances in which I needed to email multiple times to receive a response. Two stars are only for the front desk staff and the PA. They were friendly. Dr. Borukhov was impatient and kept checking his phone during my 2 minute exam. He also kept rushing me during the test "1 or 2, 1 or 2?" Sometimes eyes get dry or foggy when staring at a bright object for long, an optometrist should know that. He didn't explain a single thing about my test just finished the test as quickly as he could before running back to his texting. The worst optometrist I've ever had. read more

The doctor was fantastic and gets 5 starts. I usually have anxiety when going to the doctor and she made me feel comfortable, explained everything, and even educated me on a few things. I was especially impressed when she showed me my current prescription versus what she was proposing. The visit went down hill when I went to get fitted for my new glasses. The woman only showed me designer frames and tried to slap me with a $500 bill for new glasses. She should have asked if I wanted my current frames updated with the lenses that I need now or if I had a budget or review my coverage and help me find something within the guidelines. I would have appreciated a better approach. The front desk personnel was also helpful in getting my insurance updated since I was a new customer. 2 out of 3 isn't bad. read more

I saw Dr. Vanessa Connena for almost a year. This doctor mis-diagnosed me, almost made me pay exorbitant rates for specialized contacts I did not need, did not review my historical prescriptions, and at the end, refused to refund my money. I needed contacts and my number is high. She disregarded my topography report, previous prescriptions and even didn't calculate my myopia herself - she would depend on the contact lens company to do that. the whole time, she was not accounting for astigmatism and repeatedly scared me I had a degenerating eye condition. Not only could I not see properly under her care, she caused me a lot of worry. While she has a nice personality, I DO NOT recommend her due to her complete incompetence in her field. I also do not recommend the facility as their wait times are always over 45 minutes (up to an hour and a half), they repeatedly would forget to place the order for my contacts, and Dr. Cooper as a doctor was dismissive and insensitive when I asked for a second opinion. I am now with a new doctor, who has in the first set of contacts got my number right and complimented me on the health of my eyes despite a high number. Please do not go to this facility. read more

Just got back from my yearly eye checkup and was a breeze! I've been coming here for years and this place delivers every time. The office staff are all very friendly and professional. Today my usual doctor was on maternity leave so I saw Dr. Borukhov instead. As much as I like my usual doctor, Dr. Borukhov blew me away! I had a late appointment but Dr. B was friendly and efficient. He also took the time to tell me how to read my Optomap eye images, which was very interesting. He also suggested better over the counter eye drops and gave me samples. Apparently, the ones I've been using constrict my blood vessels and it's not good for my eyes in the long run. I went to cooper eye care because it's near where I work and it's in my network for insurance. The doctor was great, but I was rather annoyed with reception. When I called to schedule my inital eye exam, I informed them that I had to work at a specific time that day. They told me I would be fine scheduling my eye exam a little over an hour before I have to go to work. When I got to my appointment, The doctor told me that since I have work after my appointment, I should return to have them dialated. (annoyed) I paid a 10 dollar co pay for my appointment. When I returned to have my eyes dialated, they charged me an addition 20 dollar co pay. They told me that if I had everything done in one appointment, I wouldn't have had to pay twice. The woman at reception was not empathetic and made me feel stupid. They didn't even offer to waive my co pay for customer satisfaction. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I probably will never return. I expect a little more from my doctors office. read more

We've had excellent results so far with Dr. Cooper's treatments to arrest myopia. Two children, two different approaches--and both have worked out so far (2 full years). His office is friendly and Dr. Cooper is upbeat yet thorough. He's explained well what has full evidence behind it, and what doesn't. Spends 10-15 minutes for each of our visits. The office has been helpful the couple of times we've had a snag. Cons: The wait to see Dr. Cooper sometimes takes 15-30 minutes. The treatments feel costly upfront, and are not covered by insurance. However, two years later, that money feels very well spent and proportional to the payoff over time. read more

I am a long-term patient of Dr Cooper and I think he is an excellent doctor - knowledgeable and thorough . His office always has the latest technology, such as the Optos machine which allows the doctor to examine your retina without dilating your pupils, and all other sorts of cool gadget-y stuff. He is really friendly, and remembers my unique eye condition every time I see him before even looking in the chart.
