Fast forward 3 years, Dr Kaplan performed ORIF/fusion on me, all went great, very minimal pain thankfully due to their system and nerve block that lasted 3 days after surgery. 12 weeks post op now, just transitioned slowly back into athletic shoes after 8 weeks hard cast, 4 weeks walking boot. Their office and staff are efficient and organized, all professional, for having to have foot surgery, this has been a great experience. I had a full rupture of my right achilles. Dr. Kaplan performed surgery to repair my right achilles. At this point, I am almost 8 months post surgery. I am back to running and exercising with no pain and I am well on my way back to being 100% again. Every person I interacted with through this journey were extremely kind and helpful. When I say every person, I mean every person. From the front desk, to post surgery haze, to the cast room, to getting my stitches out, to scheduling, and billing. I felt like everyone is happy and loves their job. It felt welcoming to be in that kind of environment when I was scared about surgery and how my life would be after having a full rupture of my achilles but the staff made me feel at peace that everything would be okay and they were with me every step of the way. After rupturing my achilles, I knew I had to act fast before the situation got worse. Dr. Kaplan was available to fit me in for an appointment and very clearly communicated the options of surgery vs no surgery for recovery. Based on the information provided, I opted for surgery. Before coming to Dr. Kaplan, I had seen numerous doctors and physical therapists concerning my ankle. Most doctors dismissed what I was saying about where the pain was and wouldn't listen to me. I wanted to give credit where it's due. 11 months ago, i ruptured my Achilles' tendon while playing tennis. My friend who is a primary care doctor recommended Dr Kaplan. I did my research and saw that Dr Kaplan had great reviews. I am a surgical nurse and have seen my fair share of surgeons who are not well trained. First off, I wanted someone who was fellowship trained on treating foot and ankle. I didn't want a general ortho surgeon who's focus was another body part. Dr Kaplan met that requirement. I appreciated that they were able to see me right away. He presented the options of non-surgical vs. surgical. Second, he took his time to answer my questions. I also appreciate that he cites studies and engaged with me in a discussion. I get a sense that he is meticulous which is what you want in your surgeon. I went with surgical and two business days later, I was able to have my surgery. Time is of the essence with this rupture. I learned that if you wait too long for surgery, the tendons retract and the incision may need to be longer. The surgical recovery was tolerable. The most intense pain was when the block wore off and my foot was throbbing. I was on pain meds for 1-2 days and was able to switch to Ibuprofen. I did PT for about 3 months and did a lot of swimming and exercises on my own after that. I am happy to report that I recovered quite well and everything Dr Kaplan mentioned I would experience during the recovery was on point. I did a 5K 8 months after surgery and now 11 months after surgery, I can play a decent game of tennis. My strength is about 90% of my baseline. Dr Kaplan said I will continue to get stronger. THANK YOU DR. KAPLAN YOU ARE THE BEST!!!! Receiving an ankle reconstruction from Dr. Kaplan has been a life changing experience for me. For several years I have experienced my ankle rolling outward unexpectedly, often causing me to fall. These falls caused multiple contusions on both my arms and legs. Because of my tendency to fall, I had cut back on using the treadmill and doing Zumba classes. One day I was supposed to cross a nine lane intersection to meet my family across the street. I was so afraid to walk across the busy street, in case my ankle gave out and I fell down, that I asked my family to drive across the street and meet me.  That day I knew I had to do something.  I heard Dr. Kaplan speak at a presentation at Hoag Hospital. He arranged for attendees to obtain an appointment right away. I was so impressed with his knowledge, caring, and expertise. I saw him two days later and he answered all my questions and concerns. I signed up for ankle reconstruction.    My ankle reconstruction with Dr. Kaplan occurred in late 2018. I found Dr Kaplan at least three years ago because I was having pain in my left foot. I had seen a regular podiatrist at first but nothing was working... I saw Kaplan and was diagnosed with Planter fasciitis. We set up a plan with orthotics, which their physical therapy does in the building. And doing exercises to try to conquer it without surgery, but then he realized I had a pinched nerve and Dr. Danto in the building did the nerve study.. In the end Dr. Kaplan did my pinched nerve surgery and my plantar fasciitis surgery.. I am a high energy exercise lady, mom of 4. ..I run, take kick box classes, spin classes and do a considerable amount of weight training! Dr Kaplan took my problem seriously, I wasn't able to play soccer with my kids! Or walk around in Disneyland for more than three hours.. I was in constant pain day and night.!! I wore a boot during the day I wore it at night and finally surgery was the best option... recovery and physical therapy took longer than I would've liked!! But it still the best decision I ever made. I'm 100% better!!! You have to put the time and strength train-your whole leg because the foot throws everything off!! But I'm doing everything I did before a few years ago!!! I was referred to Dr. Kaplan by another doctor at OSI that my family had known for YEARS and he told me to go see Kaplan because he was the real deal. Dr. Kaplan did a calcaneal osteotomy with a navicular shave down and a tendon clean up and I could not be any happier I only have one scar on the inside of my ankle rather than the 2 big scars. I had pain only for 2 days and that was because I was choosing to not take pain medication. I'm coming up on a year post op and have no problem with it. I fell and injured my ankle, leg and thumb. We were suppose to go out of town to a wedding but because of my injury I needed to see a Orthopedic Doctor ASAP. Dr Kaplan agreed to see me the next day in the morning. He was thorough at the initial appointment and dealt with all of my injuries, taking x-rays and examining my injured areas. He was one of the most caring and down to earth Doctors I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. I wore a boot for about 4-6 weeks, and my ankle healed perfectly. The hematoma on my leg has pretty much dissolved and my thumb is feeling fine. I saw Dr Kaplan for about 3 months. I was discharged unless I have any further problems. I first went to Dr. Kaplan about 3 years ago with a double fracture on my ankle, one on each side, and a torn ligament. It required two surgeries which Dr. Kaplan performed and to this day it has been fantastic! I have some discomfort from time to time, as most injuries have, when the weather gets too cold but once I get some blood flowing it goes away. Dr. Kaplan and his team did an amazing job and I am thankful because I can walk with no complications especially considering that I did not go to him until about a month after my initial injury. Dr Kaplan performed a Triple Arthrodesis (TA) on my left foot. Before I settled on Dr. Kaplan to treat my foot, I had been to four foot and ankle surgeons and had not felt completely comfortable with any of them. After my first appointment with Dr. Kaplan, it was clear to me who my foot Dr. would be. He quickly diagnosed my condition, offering a couple of alternatives, but recommending the path he knew was the proper solution for my condition. He explained the alternatives clearly, and when we decided on the surgery path, explained it in great detail in a manner that is understandable to a layman. The TA was clearly the proper solution for my problem. The surgery went better than advertised and I wound up pain free with an ankle that goes straight into my foot rather than splayed as it had been. His follow-up has been very thorough. Based on a recommendation of a good friend, (and orthopedic surgeon), as well as the reviews, I wanted Dr. Kaplan to perform my surgery. Dr. Kaplan made time to see me when I got back and, after completely and meticulously explaining the options available to me, he scheduled surgery. Because Dr. Kaplan is not in my PPO network, insurance would not cover the cost. He worked with me on the cost so that it was actually less expensive to have him do the surgery than it would have been for me to pay the deductibles and go to an unknown in-network surgeon!
