1. The office hours are wrong, you can call at anytime and they will either be away or half the office is missing and it's only Thursday at 9am. 2. The care sucks, my partner said he had pain after a back injection and Dr. Chang recommended that he drink coffee to help with the pain. A complete quack. Will be writing to the medical board. 3. Dr. Chang also keeps little to no patient notes, I don't know how or why but he doesn't. I called and the nurse said "Huh, there is no notes for this patient " , do we even know what treatments are being carried out, are they even following up with patients? They aren't. read more

Put the paperwork online so you don't have to sit in the waiting room for an hour and a half to two hours filling out paperwork when it could all be done from the comfort of your own home where everything is handy. This doctor is a quack! I went in for a certain pain that I had in my (groin) lower extremities. I was refereed to by a urologist. He ordered a nerve test by one of his staff members. Don't know why, but I figured he knew what he was doing. Everything came back normal. I was told that I needed a steroid injection in my buttocks, but i could not understand why it was needed for testicular pain. I was put under anesthesia and he performed the injections. It did not help upon the next day. I went upon further review and found out he gave the wrong diagnosis and injections. I am in pain now in my buttocks where the injection sites were inserted. He totally misdiagnosed me as he did not listen carefully to my pain. Now I am worse off than I was before. Hopefully this pain in my buttocks will resolve as it makes hard to sit, drive, and sleep. It's constant. He said that he hasent heard of this reaction in 15 years. Will see him. Stay away!!! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Chang for over a year now. I cannot say enough about him. His fun and quirky (I am quirky too so I find this to be a positive trait) personality make dealing with my personal injuries, surgeries and now long term care; feel bearable. He is always looking for the next options to try and make my lower back & shoulder/neck pain better moving forward. I appreciate that he asks the right questions of what changes (stressors, job, life, etc.) may be effecting my progress. Dr Chang is absolutely the most amazing pain doctor ever! He has helped turn my life from constantly suffering into a much improved daily life. I was a wreck when I began seeing Dr. Chang. He took the time to find the right meds and really listen to how I was feeling in order to make the appropriate medication changes that basically helped me get to where I am now, which is like he gave me my life back. Dr Chang also does a variety of injections (trigger point and others) that significantly improved my ability to walk. I attribute that to his knowledge and doing the correct injections that are necessary for my individual pain issues. I am so blessed to have Dr Chang managing my pain. Office staff unapologetically wasted my time.  I called to set an appointment for an initial  consultation.   First thing they asked for was my insurance information.   Upon confirmation that they accepted it, they asked for my address.  I was told that the pre appointment forms would be mailed to me. I offered my email but I was told "we're not set up for that yet".  Okay.   After a week they had not arrived so I called to inquire and was told that they should have arrived by now.   Another few days go by and I still haven't received the packet so I call again.   I'm told to arrive 15 minutes early to fill them out on site.  Okay.   I arrive early at which point I am asked for my identification and insurance card.   I hand over both and in about 11 seconds I am told that they don't accept my insurance!   I told her she must be mistaken because I called and gave them my Health Net membership number and it was confirmed that they accepted it.  She then points to the card and says, See these letters?  We don't take it because of those letters".  I stated that now, the day of my appointment when I have taken a half day off of work for this is not the time to be figuring this out.  She said something to the effect of oh well, that's how it is.   I said that I wanted to speak to someone in charge.   After waiting close to 10 minutes the office manager Patty came out from the back and I made it clear that I did not appreciate having my time wasted and that they had ample opportunity over the almost 2 weeks that I waited for the appointment to confirm my insurance.   Her exact words without any apology in her voice were "well it happens that way sometimes."  I explained to her about having an injured back and waiting for the appointment plus taking a day off of work.  She glibly stated "we can give you a note for your employer".    I informed her that I own the company, so that does me no good and now I am weeks away from treatment because I have to start from scratch on finding a doctor.  Still no apology. At which point I also made it clear that I would be writing this review.   Not once did she even come close to apologizing for wasting my time which is keeping me in pain.  In case you are wondering, the forms arrived in the mail 4 days later.   In closing, I find the reviews for Dr. Chang to be somewhat suspicious.  They seem to mostly be new reviews and very close to each other in time.  I have heard of organizations buying reviews.  I'm not saying that is what is going on here but in my experience organizations that care this little and are this disorganized have earned negative feedback long before I came along.  Alan read more

He came highly recommended by a family member that is also a doctor in the same field. He has treated me for 4 years after a work related injury. If they could give more than 5 stars I would. After a back surgery that included 2 discs replaced and 3 vertebrae fused I developed a severe case of Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome in my entire right leg as well as drop foot in my right foot. I was referred to Dr. Chang who confirmed the diagnosis and started an aggressive pain control and rehab effort. Only people who have experienced CRPS truly know how excruciating and debilitating it is. Well after 3 months of multiple lower back injections coupled with a cocktail of oral meds I am almost pain free and able to start pt for the drop foot which is progressing well. Having grown up in a medical family I know first hand about how important a Dr's competency and bedside manor is. Dr. Chang nails It on both counts. I took my mom to visit Dr Chang after reading reviews on Yelp and on a family friends recommendation. Let me tell you he did not disappoint! He was far beyond what I expected for my mom. My 84 yo mother had been to another back specialist before and he did not do one single thing for her. He pretty much informed her that she had this and that and she was pretty much just going to sit there and become an indolent. Dr Chang was so awesome and was patient, thorough, got her on some physical therapy, took x-rays and went over her tests and was very informative as to what was happening with her back. He is a great Dr and I would highly recommend! The only downside, his staff, not all of the staff, because the ones running the x-rays and MRI were absolutely sweet! I guess you can say the receptionist/secretary (?) I have called twice to make a follow up appointment for my Mom's MRI, left messages and have not received a response. I have been seeing Dr. Chang for pain management for a little over a year. I started going to RESTORE Orthopedics in 2016 and was seeing Dr. Carlson. Dr. Carlson found that I had two discs in my lower back and in my neck that needed to be replaced but wanted to try epidurals first and referred me to Dr. Chang for some epidurals. Before I could get the first one, I wound up in the hospital with PE's in both lungs and severe DVT in my leg which made surgery out of the question. I started seeing Dr. Chang for epidural injections that same year in December and continued to get injections that would wear off after four months or so. Dr. Carlson told me there wasn't anything else he could do for me other than the surgery in June 2018. I was very scared due to genetic blood clotting issues and, because I was not mentally ready to go that route, I went to a specialist, Dr. Yanni, in Newport Beach for a second opinion because that is what you do when it comes to surgery on the spine, right? Dr. Yanni agreed with Dr. Carlson's diagnosis and that I was in great hands and would most likely eventually get to a point where surgery was my only option; however, he recommended I see Dr. Chang first to see about managing the pain. Dr. Yanni said that Dr. Chang is the smartest man he knows when it comes to pain management. It was the best decision I ever made and it has helped me to put off surgery until it becomes absolutely necessary from a quality of life perspective. Dr. Chang has done radio frequency ablation's in four different areas of my spine helping me to reduce the level of pain by 50% or more and in some areas I am pain free. Dr. Chang has also been treating me for my migraines which have reduced the number of migraines I get per month from 25+ down to just 3-5 over three months. If you suffer from migraines or back/neck pain of any kind, I highly recommend you go see Dr. Chang for a consultation. I am so grateful for all of the care and pain relief Dr. Chang has provided. I have been seeing Dr. Chang for almost 2 years . This review is way overdue . I feel like I hit the Lotto . I was pursuing physical therapy for over a year for a herniated disc and was not getting any better . This diagnosis was from my doctor . Finally , I started asking more questions and seeking answers and I was referred to Dr. Chang. The first visit Dr. Chang kneemy pain was not from a disc. He determined I was actually suffering from bursitis after his thorough examination and xrays . What lifesaver . My pain was so bad that it was all I could think about and was giving very little sleep if any . Hitting the lotto with Dr. Chang and then the bonus with his staff . They provide World Class caring service from start to finish . I'm in customer service and I have high expectations and the exceed that way over and beyond . I find it interesting to read the reviews here. Unfortunately I just did not have the same positive experience. The first appointment I had with Dr. Chang, I saw his nurse practitioner for the visit. I finally asked if the doctor would be coming in. She told me she would go and check. He popped in for two minutes. The NP practitioner suggested xrays and blood work. I completed both for my next visit. The second visit was even worse. Again his nurse practitioner was going over my results me when the doctor came into the room and starts going over my results with the nurse practitioner, not me. He ignored me and spoke to her the whole time. He never looked at me the whole visit. He talked to her briefly and then walks out of the room. So I went back one more time and I see the doctor on his computer as I was walking back to the exam room. Again, the nurse practitioner comes back and starts asking questions. The doctor never came in the room when I left he was still on his computer. Not sure what is the deal with this. He doesn't talk to patients and can be extremely rude. Dr Chang is an incredible practitioner.. He cares about his patients and his staff Rosy and Patty are amazing. Sadly, his administrative team member Greys leaves much to be desired. She's argumentative, and gives attitude when you challenge her. I called the office once with massive migraine asking for help, Greys said she'd get back to me. I never heard from her or him. Additionally, when scheduling a procedure I had to wait over a month to get in, she never called and told me my procedure was approved. I had to call myself. She is a bitter horrible employee. Dr Chang would be a 10 star doc in my eyes but he continues to allow Greys to treat his patients with disrespect read more

This review is for the rude person handling the patient "experience" department. I'm a current patient of Dr Chang's and he's an excellent doctor. He needs to demand the same from all of his staff and the first impression begins on how you speak with patients or potential patients. I recommended my wife see Dr Chang and she waited two hours to have her xrays done and then see Dr. Chang after that. I called to see why it was taking so long and the young lady on the phone told me that "Dr. Chang is a specialist and it can take up to two hours to see a specialist. She said if I had a problem I could take it up with Dr. Chang! Wow. Really? You just passed the buck to the Dr. without an apology or explanation of any kind? Not acceptable. I'm sure Dr. Chang wouldn't accept this explanation if he were waiting in a dentist office or anywhere else he had an appointment for. I have been a patient of Dr. Chang's for a few years. He is the best pain management doctor that I have ever been to! I have received the most pain relief for my condition under his care. Dr. Chang really takes the time to listen to you. Dr. Chang is a fabulous doctor. Originally, he treated me at UCI and he left a lasting impression on me with his fun disposition, his knowledge of pain management techniques and his excellent treatment of my condition. I finished my treatment and went on with my life for a few years and recently needed to see a pain management doctor again. I went to UCI for my appointment and he wasn't there anymore. So, I tracked him down. And, it couldn't have been a better move for me. His new office is beautiful and aesthetically pleasing...almost calming. He is so friendly and encouraging and when I presented him with my thoughts he listened to what I had to say. He worked with me to make a treatment plan that I knew would be great for my condition. Dr. Chang is open to his patient's concerns and worries and will go above and beyond to work through those issues. He is innovate and so very intelligent. He also gets my geeky jokes and sarcasm! I love that his office has brand new equipment including a state of the art, cutting edge wide MRI machine that doesn't make you feel like you are being squished in a trash compactor. The office staff are efficient and quick on the insurance paperwork making things a whole lot less confusing. He even has a very cool interactive portal that gives you up-to-date information including office visit summaries all available via mobile device or email. I highly recommend Dr. Chang to those who are looking for a pain management physician. He is amazing and won't just give you a steroid shot, put a band-aid on it and send you home. He makes sure that you are given the right medication for your metabolizing profile, works to find the best interventions and offers many different approaches for a patient's care. There aren't a lot of doctors out there willing to take the time to help a patient in pain. Dr. Chang does.
