Went here tonight I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries , the sandwich was absolutely delicious with slaw , pickle and soft bun all mashed together really good. The fries are nothing special in my opinion they should do a hand cut fresh and season them better. I grew up in Kansas City the barbecue capital of the US so I know Bbq sauces their sauce is sweet like Texas and very good. My husband had full rack of ribs side of slaw and beans. He loved the ribs fall off the rack but he said too much which is surprising so next time he said he would only order a half rack. He said the slaw is good but the beans he didn't care for, he says they tasted harsh not sure what that means. Based on the meat a 5 for sure but only a 4 for the sides. We will return for sure and try the brisket. read more

Owned by the people that bring you Hotel Zed and The Ruby. There are high expectations for Jones Bar B Que. We stopped here on opening day for a quick lunch. 2 pork shoulder sandwiches and a side of beans. The sandwiches were far better than others I have had in this city, look out PIG, you got competition. The buns were perfect. The meat solid. Perfectly smoked and seasoned. My only problem with the food was the beans. 5 stars once they sort the beans out. They tasted great but they were either undercooked or just tough. I will definitely be coming back for a couple beer and to sample the rest of the menu! read more

Update: a recent visit has me updating. The staff/hostess was delightful and with 5 of us, I got to sample several offerings. They were all very good. There are lineups and they do run out so be prepared. I would return. I want to love this place but so far? Not so much and I haven't eaten here yet. A friend recommended it and I was looking for a spot for hubbys birthday so I called on the Friday. Yup-they will be open Labour Day Monday and yup they can handle a group. After the phone call I email with details to confirm and organize 18 people to show up. Receiving no response to the email, I stop by on Sunday. "We're not open Monday". Argghhh. This BBQ was great! We tried the gluten free and dairy free fried chicken, sausage link and brisket. All three were great! The half liter of fries were more than enough to share. The staff were very knowledgeable in allergens and ingredients in their foods. read more

I personally don't know any other similar places in town, and my experience with any southern styled barbecue places is quite limited. I do like their smoke brisket and ribs, it's juicy, satisfying and flavorful. You could argue that the price is a bit high (and I don't disagree with that), but given that this IS Victoria, we just have to pay a big premium for any decent food. read more

Just ordered in for Delivery from Jones for the first time,. Haven't eaten there for a long time. Ordered a 3 meat plate, it was humooungous ! Had the pulled pork, the brisket (was a little fatty) and the chicken thighs which were very tender and juicey plus enough fries and coleslaw with a brioche bun to feed an army, only put a dent in the two sides. Would maybe substitute ribs for the chicken thighs next time as someone else had those and they looked fantastic. Not for everyday eating but for an occasional blow out without getting a triple bypass it sure was a treat !! Best Barbeque in Victoria hands down. read more

Really enjoyed our lunch here last week during my visit to Victoria. We ordered a poutine with pulled pork (huge serving), brisket sandwich and fries, one order of brisket and a brisket and chicken plate with beans. Victorians have been brainwashed for years into thinking that places like Pig and Smoken Bones served real BBQ. Lies, lies, LIES! After you eat at Jones you will know what real BBQ tastes like. Smokey goodness? Yup. Black bark on outside of meat? Check. Kick ass side dishes? Uh huh. Feeling like someone kicked you in the stomach after eating 5 lbs of food? Worth it. Go to Jones and you can feel like Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Eat there every day for a year and you will look like Guy Fieri. The only thing missing there is a liquor license. Good BBQ deserves to be washed down with suds. But the staff said the location is too small to allow it. But I can't see this place staying in that locaiton - it's already too small and crowded for the space. read more

Having frequented places like Black's Barbecue in Lockhart, Texas, I can see what they are trying to do: bring real Texas BBQ to Victoria. The pieces are all there, but they don't all fit completely. The brisket was tender and flavourful but it had gotten a little cool by the time they served it. My friend who ordered the sausage felt his portion could have been larger. We were split on the potato salad and the baked beans: one person loved the beans and hated the potatoes, another had the opposite opinion. I hope they eventually get a licence to serve beer. (And in reference to a previous review, they were playing Texas country music, not hip hop, the night we were there.) The bottom line: this place is about as good as you'd expect a fish and chips shop to be in Lockhart. read more

This is the best BBQ I've had in Victoria. As a Texas native I was thrilled with the brisket, slaw, and brioche buns. In my heart of hearts I'd love them to foray into deep fried pickles, or deep fried okra as a future side. I look forward to imbibing in more meat here soon. read more

This place is amazing, the meat is all smoked, so there is no chicken but the brisket, ribs and pulled pork are incredible. We fed five people with a big family platter and one extra side for just under $90. I highly recommend Jones BBQ. read more

Ever since Smokin Bones self destructed in an example of how to run a successful business into the ground, we've been needing a good BBQ in this town, and thankfully Jones' is the real deal! Fall off the bone ribs with a fabulous rub and a near perfect sauce are fantastic yet take a back seat to their brisket which is the best I've had in years! Their sides are just ok, with their beans a little on the sweet side and the slaw a bit bland, but their staff are friendly and double check each order. Get there early as they run out of meats often. Another sign of its popularity after being open for such a short time. Definitely one of my top five favorites in town!!! read more

First visit and I came away impressed with the brisket sandwich. It's all about the meat, and it was perfect - smokey and melt-in-your-mouth tender with a tangy, but not overpowering, sauce. My wife knows I am a BBQ fanatic and picked this place for dinner tonight. We are visiting from Oregon on our first trip here. She ordered a 1 meat plate with brisket containing sides of potato salad and cole slaw. I ordered the 2 meat with brisket, sausage, potato salad and pit beans. It appeared they only had one BBQ sauce available but it was good. The sausage was good, spicy but good. I was not thrilled to see only two slices of brisket on each of our plates. A slightly thicker slice than most places but by weight, a small amount for the money. I had far more sausage than brisket. A pile of potato salad and large portion of beans, but then I didn't go out for sides dishes with a side of BBQ. Each plate came with a small bun sort of bread. We each put the brisket between the slices, added some sauce and went to town. Without a doubt the saltiest piece of meat I have ever had. My mouth was burning from the salt. And that is too bad because it looked so tender and good. The beans are just not a taste I could handle. Not sure why but didn't like them, I really wanted to like this place and there is so much potential. We saw raw pieces of meat wrapped in plastic wrap that appeared to be covered in salt. Even the fries are okay since the fryer isn't shared with gluten products. We have a Celiac in the family so these details are important. Certainly, the best BBQ on the Island. Friendly service, but cramped, poorly designed seating, transaction, and food pickup space. Health violations in plain site, including, but not limited to, wax paper over greasy trays with food of previous customers rotting under the paper and the sandwich person eating while making sandwiches. Will return in a few weeks to see if they still have customers hovering over the food, unwashed trays and the kitchen staff munching down..In short, good food served politely in a unsafe environment.
