Unprofessional service and inconsistent quality - Not worth the "Premium" price…read more My wife and I visited Jones Bar-B-Que looking for a reliable spot for high-protein meals in Victoria. Unfortunately, after a few visits, the service has proven to be incredibly unprofessional and, quite frankly, discriminatory. The first major red flag was a takeout order of the Mama Jones Platter. The server was careless, stuffing the food into containers as an afterthought when I reminded him it was a to-go order. It arrived home cold and looked like a mess. No apology or effort was made to fix it. The final straw occurred during our last dine-in visit. After ordering, we were told they were "out of sausages" and offered extra of another meat. Because of the previous bad experience, I left a 10% tip (noting this is a counter-service model where you pay upfront). The server became visibly rude and dismissive, telling us to fetch our own plates and drinks in a condescending tone. However, moments later, the table next to us--who appeared to be locals--received the exact same platter, complete with sausages. The server was suddenly very attentive and helpful to them, bringing them everything they needed. As a non-white couple with accents, we felt completely singled out. Whether it was "tip-shaming" or something more biased, being treated like a second-class citizen while paying premium prices is unacceptable. The BBQ is decent, but the quality is nowhere near good enough to overlook being treated with such disrespect. We won't be back and definitely don't recommend this place.

The only downside was the cool air blowing on the food, which made the dining area feel a bit cold. Overall, a solid spot with good eats and great service -- I'll be back!

The halibut is perfect-just like I like it. The pieces are generous. One piece is plenty for the average person. The halibut is BC caught, which is great. Tasted fresh and delicious. I like the fresh tasting coleslaw. It isn't that gluggy sweet sugar & mayo combo you get at many places. It was just a simple cut up cabbage nicely seasoned. Maybe it had a little something else on it. Expect a line whenever you go because the word is out. The wait staff was friendly and working hard to keep the line moving. We found a chair up against a narrow wooden "bar" facing the water. It was quite warm so we appreciated the shade of an umbrella.

The line can get long, but it's worth the wait. My recommendation: get the BC Halibut. Perfectly cooked, flaky, and incredibly fresh, it showcases exactly why Pacific Northwest seafood has such a great reputation. Simple ingredients, expertly prepared, and packed with flavor. Grab your food, find a seat along the waterfront, and enjoy the views while watching the boats come and go. Great food, great location, and a true Victoria classic.

FOOD Half & Half ($37.50) If you're getting chicken, you're going all in on boneless (or bone-in) and at least they offer the ability to try a couple of flavours while you're at it! This time, we tried: - Sweet Honey - decent, but a little too sweet for me... - Original - my tastebud lean towards Popeyes' offering but this was alright. === 3. SERVICE The counter service was pleasant on the phone and in-person. The long wait times (45 mins - gulp) leave a lot to be desired, but also point to the popularity of the place. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's simple inside if not a little dark, but clean enough. There are tables for small groups of 2 or 4 to eat at and wheelchairs and baby strollers would fit. Supposedly, the joint was started by a 6/49 lotto winner, who since sold it to the current owners. Parking is limited on the street upfront, so you're looking to quickly stop in the residential parking spots along the side streets to eat-in or grab your takeout order.

I can find an option for each of them, no matter how picky they're feeling and I can also get myself something that will satisfy me. Not a bad job for a mall food court restaurant. I recently tried the Koryo fries and they were fantastic (okay I wasn't looking for something healthy for myself that day, parental double standard). They asked if I wanted them spicy and I said yes, expecting the usual little tingle that are other cultures interpretation of Caucasian tolerance for spice. This time I got the burn I wanted. If you find yourself in the mall and hungry, hit up Koryo for some decent fast food.

Fast forward to the food court (yes, I am easily convinced). Scanning around I didn't see anything tasty or interesting at all until I landed on a small store in the far corner -- Koryo. With an exterior screaming "Asian fusion!!!" I assumed it would be some terrible offspring of mall and Asian fusion. Turns out, the food wasn't bad at all. PROS: + All barbecued meats are marinated, Korean style and then grilled + Meals come with healthy helpings of rice and side dishes that you can choose; side dishes are authentic and really good + Kimchee is particularly good at this place + Some innovative Korean-American menu items CONS: - Although this is a good Korean fix to get in downtown, the meat doesn't seem to be marinated as well as going to an actual joint that serves Korean BBQ; speaking of which, I heard there is a Korean BBQ place on Fisgard St.? - Expect to pay a decent price for the food, although you can opt for the cheaper sandwiches, forgoing the lunch plates
