If they can't do something, like get a book that is not on site, they have a close relationship with libraries nearby so they can order the book from there. The library staff is friendly and there is almost always a computer open if I need one. You know, one of those times when it is just too much of a headache to do lots of typing on one's smart phone. People speak on speaker phone and play music loudly without earphones. This is not the fault of the library but the staff does not support with it at all or stop it. I'm writing this review from the perspective of a mom with small children. This library has a good…read moreselection of books for young kids, and quite a lot of books in different languages as well, all within reach so that they can make their own choices. The children's area is at the back of the library, and there are several comfortable areas to sit and read with the kids. The large windows in this area provide plenty of natural light, and also allow inquisitive children to look down upon people and cars milling around below, and watch the dogs playing at the dog park. There are also educational activity centers in this area, so the kids can move around a bit. This my kids' favorite Fort Collins library.

My partner and I used the study rooms here a lot. We both have disabilities, I have to use a cane…read moreto walk and my general mobility isn't good. This is why we used the rooms, they are the most accessible way for us to visit the library. Well today, one of the upstairs librarians made us move out of the study room we were in, granted it was just after our scheduled time elapsed, but it's the last 45 minutes before closing, there were no reservations after us, and its never been an issue any of the dozens of times we've visited. She popped her head in to tell us we had to go somewhere else so "other people can use the room." After a little back and forth, mostly just asking why its an issue now, we obliged and packed up, then went downstairs to leave. We spoke with a different librarian down stairs to get more insight and all he offered was "we have to make the rooms look available so more people reserve them." He repeated the same answer after we pointed out that no one can make a reservation within the last hour of operation. If there had been an actual reservation after us, thats a different convo. We get up and leave, no issue. The irony that we had to ask a lady that was still in the room when we showed up to leave and then wait for a few minutes while she packed up is just hilarious. I'm severely disappointed in this visit, there seems to be inconsistent enforcement of policy, as well as asinine policies (ex. at the end of previous paragraph). Not really feeling like I want to go to this location anymore.

I had a very disappointing experience at the library today…read more I was printing a large set of documents when the printer jammed. I'm a teacher, so I'm very familiar with these exact printers and know how to clear a paper jam. However, I also understand that many businesses prefer employees to handle jams themselves to avoid damage, so I went to the front desk and politely said, "Hey, I just jammed the printer. Could someone help me?" The employee's response was simply, "So?" I honestly just stared at her because I couldn't believe it. I said, "I can unjam it, I guess," and she replied, "No, no." I then asked what would happen to my print job since it stopped in the middle of printing. I had already loaded $20 onto my printing card because I was printing a large number of documents. I wasn't worried about a few cents--I just wanted to know if the print job would resume or if I would have to send everything through again and be charged twice. Instead of answering my question, she laughed and said, "We'll refund your pennies." The issue was never about the money. It was about getting a simple question answered and being treated with basic respect. Her comment was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. To make matters even more frustrating, it took nearly 40 minutes before I was able to finish printing my documents. As someone who has worked with these same printers for years in a school setting, I know a typical paper jam can usually be cleared and the printer back up and running in just a few minutes. Waiting that long wouldn't have bothered me nearly as much if someone had communicated what was going on or treated me with courtesy. I understand that machines malfunction. What I don't understand is treating patrons with sarcasm and dismissiveness when they're simply asking for help. Customer service costs nothing, and unfortunately this experience was one of the rudest I've had at a library.
