This beautiful and well maintained park offers an array of recreational amenities. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the basketball, softball, tennis, and racquetball courts along with a soccer on the multipurpose field. As a nature lover I enjoyed the many boardwalks with views of the lake and the sidewalk which meanders through the entire park. It is perfect for walking for exercise and I saw the cutest marsh rabbit as I made my way through the park. There are also two fishing piers. Kids will spend hours playing and on the two imaginative playgrounds. Secret Lake Park is also home to the recently renovated Casselberry Recreation Center which has a main room, ballroom, billiards room, computer room, outdoor deck area, activity room, and outdoor pavilions. The recreation center offers many programs from youth to senior. They include exercise, yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, and dance classes. The park is also the host of several beloved Casselberry traditions like the HOWL-O-WEEN Dog Walk-a-Thon and Canine Costume Contest, Art & Music in the Park & Food Truck Bazaar, and the Casselberry Easter Egg Hunt. I really enjoyed my visit to Secret Lake Park. It is the perfect outdoor recreation destination for families, fitness seekers, and sports lovers. You can go for peaceful stroll, play basketball, or watch the kids play safely. The scenic lakeside views, comprehensive recreational programs, and variety of amenities add to the charm and versatility of this park.

Where the wild…read morethings are I once heard someone tell me that Liberty Park was a "useless" park because nothing was there. Well, that's correct. Nothing is here but air, trees, water, dirt and animals. But then again nothing is really a great something. Unfortunately the park isn't very large so it's not good for hiking or serious walking. Just a short stroll and you've seen it all. But it is a great place to stop and reflect or think. Mayhaps think about things on the wild side. A place to shut up and listen to what the trees are telling you. The first thing that you notice in this park is the smell. Pine trees everywhere and the odor is intoxicating. I once walked around here and several hours later someone told me I smelled like a Xmas tree, I took that as a compliment Once when I was walking here a beautiful hawk suddenly appeared and almost flew into me. I could feel the air from his wings on my face and could see his eyes from a foot away. A moment that could not be bought for any amount of money and one not easily forgotten. Yep, this is a useless park with nothing in it. I suspect this park isn't very popular because I've never seen another soul all the times I have been here. Just quiet, peace and solitude. Yep, nothing's here. If you do decided to visit this park just remember to turn off your cell phone and shut the hell up. Look, listen and smell what this place is giving you. You can reserve a pavilion in the park office in person. I paid $40 for a reservation on a Saturday morning that could have held up to 40 people and it was located right next to the restrooms and there was even a beach volleyball set up which was really fun. I enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone and I will go back.

Popped by Big Tree Park this past weekend, and what a nice little park. It is located within the…read moreSpring Hamock Preserve. The park is home to The Senator, a large cypress tree that was 3,500 years old (sadly, it was mostly burned down in a fire), and Lady Liberty, aged 2,000 years (to name a few). While the trees themselves are the lure, the park does have some amenities like a playground, public restrooms, and areas to sit down, eat, and relax. The park has raised walkways, and the canopy of overhead tree coverage creates a cool escape from the Florida sun. Just come prepared with some bug spray - the mosquitoes are at play with all the humidity. Also, they have a handful of plaques throughout the park that provide a brief history of the trees and the park itself. All in all, it was a quick little side quest with a nice little history lesson infused. There is a good amount of parking, and it is truly a quiet and peaceful little park. If you are in the area, it's worth the detour.

Big Tree Park is located in a corner of Spring Hamock Preserve. The park is famous for having the…read moreThe Senator, a champion bald cypress that was 3,500 years old. The tree was named for State Senator Moses Overstreet, who owned the land around the tree and donated it to the county in 1927 for use as a park. In 1929, President Calvin Coolidge visited the Senator for the park's dedication. The Senator was a popular tourist stop for many years. The Seminole Tribe of Florida used the tall cypress as a landmark, and in the 1800's sightseers paid for buggy rides through the swamp, then hopped a series of logs to make it to the tree. A boardwalk was added to make it easier to access The Senator. Sadly it burned down in 2012 in an arson fire caused by a drug addict. Visitors to the park can see the remains of The Senator along with some informational signage. Big Tree Park is also home to Lady Liberty, a 2,000 year old historic Bald Cypress, and the Phoenix, a genetic clone of The Senator. While the trees are the real draw to the park it also has a cute playground in the center island, which lets kids play inside a replica of a cypress trunk. There is a picnic pavilion and restrooms if you want to bring a lunch. Big Tree Park is a stop on the Cross Seminole Trail used by cyclists and runners.

There were families taking a walk while others were fishing or having a picnic. A pair of photographers were out taking pictures of the wildlife in and around the park. The park grounds are kept and well maintained. There are plenty of parking spaces available with multiple access points to the park. On our walk, we came across a food truck that was stationed near the park. Culinary Concepts by Chef Pierre offers a variety of food options from burgers, fish sandwiches to shrimp and ribs. Chef Pierre can be found on Thursdays and Fridays at different locations/apartment complexes. We ordered the Fried Fish, French Fries and Coleslaw combo. We did, however, opted out of the French Fries. The Fish was fried golden brown and was crispy. The Coleslaw was fresh and delicious. Chef Pierre and his staff were friendly and welcoming. We have been searching for new parks to frequent since we recently moved to the area. Crane's Roost Park is definitely at the top of our list and now our go to park. We will also keep a look out for Culinary Concepts by Chef Pierre next time we visit Crane's Roost Park.

It's a quiet, easy 0.5-mile trail that's clearly loved and respected by the local community, and it's well maintained for a safe, enjoyable walk. The trail takes you beneath the historic masonry street bridge, with winding creeks, charming wooden bridges, and giant elephant ear plants along the way. It was such a fun place to explore on a Saturday evening. I'll definitely be back in March to see the azaleas in bloom. Good to know: there's convenient parking across the street at the adjacent Mayor Carl T. Langford Park, which also has additional amenities.
