Jordan Market is my produce happy place in Westwood. Fruits and veggies here are so fresh they practically pose for a photoshoot. But the best part? I nearly screamed when I found catnip from Persia to Kaifeng--something I ate in my childhood and thought I'd never see again outside of a history book. I had no intentions of stopping by here, in fact, I didn't even know this place was open. However, driving down Westwood Blvd. I was instantly drawn in by a window full of beautiful, bright fruits; some conventional and some a little exotic. When my eyes caught a basket of ginormous pomegranates, I had to stop in and get one. The owner has an old school charm, super friendly and very welcoming. He even took the time to give me a mini demo on the proper way to get the seeds out of a pomegranate. I haven't tried it yet, but he said "you have to have patience." Okay. The store is small and inviting, it doesn't feel entirely like a market and I wouldn't dare call it a grocery store. I can't speak on produce beyond the fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs I saw, but I will definitely be back; especially since this location is a little more convenient that the other Persian market I sometimes go to. Unfortunately, I have shopped at this grocery store four times, and each time, I was disappointed. * The first time, I bought bread, and when I got home, I realized it was moldy. I took it back to the store and told them, but their response was, "You shouldn't have bought it!" * The second time, I wanted to buy cucumbers. The ones at the front of the store were soft and about to go bad, so I asked the young woman at the counter if they had better cucumbers. She said yes, there were some in the back of the store. When I picked cucumbers from there, the store owner noticed and quietly reprimanded her for letting me take those instead of the ones at the front. * Third, this store overcharges for everything. Almost all items are more expensive compared to other stores. * Fourth, if the owner himself weighs something for you, he always charges for more than the actual weight. For example, if something weighs 500 grams, he will charge you for 700 grams to make more money. Overall, I don't think this store deserves even a single star. I have had four really bad experiences, and I'm sure most customers may not notice this level of dishonesty. I usually never leave reviews, but this time, I will make sure to leave one with all my heart so that everyone knows what kind of a deceitful and rude person they are buying from! read more

Just took my elderly mother in. She wanted to buy a bag of mandarins. The mandarin prices were not marked so my mother asked the cashier nearby how much the mandarins are per pound. The woman said they are $2.99 per pound. I thought that was pricey but wanted to make sure my mother had what she needed. I walk up to the cashier to pay. The price is $9.86. The woman points to a sign that says credit cards only over $10. No problem, I say. I go over and pick up two more mandarins. She adds them to the rest and quotes me $14.08. I said, how can 2 small mandarins add up to an additional 4 dollars? She says: I made a mistake on the price. The price is $3.99 a pound. I didn't want to cause a scene or distress my mom. But this is definitely not the first time something like this has happened to me at this market. They have lost my business for good. read more

Small Persian market that has fortunately stayed open during the stay-at-home order. While I haven't purchased any produce from here, I have been satisfied with the selection/price of their packaged and canned food items (love getting Sadaf stuffed grape leaves). I like picking up the make-at-home falafel kits and caramel custard kits they have here, and they have a large dessert selection including baklava and halva. SCAM + FRAUD by an employee alert. I'm Iranian and grew up in LA. I shop here once in a long while. I've had fond memories of it however after today's experience, I won't be going back if that woman employee is ever there again. I've seen her there for years, she's probably in her 30s or 40s and has dark hair, currently with orange highlights that have grown out. I went in early this afternoon before visiting my grandma. I always get my grandma the same items from Persian markets and today I thought I'd go to Super Jordan. I got one additional product for my grandma which she ended up not wanting so on my way home, I stopped to return it. I made the initial purchase on my credit card. I showed the woman the receipt and gave her the item. With a mean accusatory voice, she asked if I'd opened it. I told her I had not and everything was still sealed. She gave me a scowl (still visible beneath the mask) and she walked to the section where the product is displayed. She put back the item while I was waiting for her to refund me. (Strange, right? Usually a store will process the refund and THEN place the product back...this was odd...and clearly part of her scam.) I gave her my credit card and she took a long, long while to make the exchange. Spidey senses noted something was off, yet I dismissed it, thinking there was some sort of electronic issue. After several minutes of her punching things in the credit card machine (which is far from the customer's sight line, and nestled by her register), she printed out a receipt that I **should** have read more carefully. There was a return amount that matched the price of the item. It did NOT say it was refunded to my card...TOTALLY my bad for not stopping in the moment to call her out on her deceit. I just read that she reimbursed me the price of the product (-$4.49). What threw me is I asked for my original receipt back and she said I never gave it to her. That's where my focus was. That was the other red flag I should have paid more attention to. How the F would she have accepted the return without the original receipt? Anyway, she denied she had it and said I must have it in my purse or pockets or maybe it fell somewhere. I searched the store, thinking perhaps...even though I KNEW I had handed it to her. I thanked her and went back to my car. When I got home, I reviewed the print out and it said -4.49...cash. NOPE. She never gave me cash, and in fact inserted my card into the card reader. What a deceitful, manipulative employee. And yes, totally my bad for not slowing down to have caught this in the store. I will be keeping a steady eye on my bank account since she still ran something on the machine, and hopefully it was just her punching in some random numbers to make it look like she was processing my refund. May that $4.49 bless her life and may she find peace and integrity within herself. If you own Super Jordan, you really need to have a talk with this woman. She's doing some shady things. And you just lost a decades' long customer who is going to spread this news to all Angelenos. read more

This place is nice and very clean compare to other Persian markets that I have been before. Since it is Persian New Years, most Persians get flowers, nuts and fish and I got to admit it was very busy on a wonderful Sunday. I guess I can say parking is really bad, but walking is also good for all of us, you can find parking on the streets or the back of the building if any spots are open. They have a big selection of can goods as well, fruit and dry food. All the staff is very nice and friendly. It seems everything in Westwood is very friendly too, as I was working people say " Good Morning " Happy New Year which surprising for me because no say nothing. Despite it's small size, this store carries a good variety of goods. We found a large assortment of spices, fresh produce, naan and pastries. The deli section also has a good spread of dishes. The store is clean and very well-lit. A gripe is that not all of the items have clearly labeled prices. In other cases, the labels cover up the name of the item so you have to guess the specifics (e.g. ice cream flavor). Avoid this place. First clue: Not everything has prices listed on it. (This allows them to charge you whatever they want based on their on-the-spot perception of you.) The few things that were labeled were ridiculously expensive. (Cacique Crema Mexicana is $2.99 at Ralphs; it is $5.99 here.) Second clue: Rude female cashier has an attitude from hell ... As if she hates her job but her husband is forcing her to be there. She takes out her anger on you by making you feel like your presence is annoying her. She eye-phuked us as soon as we came in the store, and visually followed us around as if she thought we were stealing. Third clue: Angry dude behind the meat/deli counter (her husband, maybe?) was vaping, INDOORS, near the food we were looking at. When we asked him to package some dates for us, he yelled to someone else who was mopping up in the back and told them to come and serve us. (I guess he was too busy vaping to do it himself.) THAT person, who was just mopping the floors in back, came to serve our food but DIDN'T WASH HIS HANDS before doing so. We asked for a few dates, he gave us 10. When we went to check out, the cashier with the attitude didn't greet us. No "Hi,"... no "Did you find everything okay?" ... just a schitty annoyed stare. Her first words, before we even handed our 10 dates to her to ring up, were: "Cash only for anything under 10 dollars." I realized then that she was following us the entire time to see what we were going to buy, and when she saw us approaching with a small container, she assumed the price didn't qualify and that was her opportunity to rudely tell us about the $10 minimum card limit. She was right, because she rung up those 10 dates at $5.75. I reply, "Oh, I didn't see the sign," and I look around for a sign. There was none. I COULD see the stickers showing they accepted credit cards, but no mention of their $10 minimum for card purchases, which seems a bit excessive. Not having any cash, and knowing that transaction fees can vary by merchant/bank/card, I politely ask: "Does it matter if I use a debit card instead?" Her reply was dripping with annoyed snarkiness: "Cash only!" She then places her hands on the counter (as if to say "I don't have TIME for this,") and looks at the ceiling while my wife and I scramble to grab more stuff to meet the $10 limit. Omigosh this place is absolutely incredible. I went for the first time today, and felt like I had a personal shopping buddy and new best friend at the same time. I'm normally a shopper of the local farmer's markets, but since distancing practices have been implemented, I've started to shop elsewhere. There is a fascinating variety of fresh, interesting foods I had never heard of. However, I may just be an American discovering Persian grocery for the first time. Beautiful little store. It has a little of everything. But it's no bargain. For example, I would pay 79 cents, maybe 99 cents for raw eggplant. I wouldn't even hesitate at $1.29. But here at Jordan Market it's $2.49-$2.99. In fact, all of the fruits and vegetables are marked over $2.49 -- I've never seen that before. A lot of loose nuts, packaged pastries, and shelf goods. A pretty decent size fresh meat section. A good amount of cheese, and small little sundries. I would come here for international products or ingredients if needed, but not for the everyday stash. I should have learned my lesson last time. Bought stuff from here another time and felt like they just charged whatever price they wanted, way more than any other Persian market. Was in the area and I needed sweet lemon so I came in and of course no sign posted indicating price, I filled up a bag and less than half of another. $30 for some sweet lemons. I was genuinely surprised and said "for those!!" And woman was so rude. She definitely just charged me whatever she wanted, normally would have been $10 anywhere else. I found this place because I randomly parked right next to it on Westwood and had some time to kill. Great little shop, with very personalized and friendly service. Their selection isn't as big as a major supermarket (Ralph's, Wholefoods, etc...) but the stuff they have is pretty unique and their produce looked much more fresh.
