Hits and misses... The catfish, greens and yams were really good. The jerk chicken tacos and the soul rolls as appetizers were great choices. Very good. The oxtails and grits had potential but the sauce was more oily than flavorful. The oxtails were tender and I appreciated them much better once reheated at home. I heard the shrimp weren't seasoned. The jerk lamb chops were good once prepared the way they were ordered. The service was good. The decor was nice and the drinks were good. Much of the food was lukewarm. I didn't love it but I would give them another try. Finally, There were 5 of us and three of us received our food. They never mentioned that the other two entrees wouldn't be out for about 10 minutes. I'm

1/2 We came to Jordyn's Soul Café the morning after my mom's book signing (Champagne Living: My Best Life: linktr.ee/CrystalWrights4u) to celebrate, and it was the perfect spot. The vibe fits Hyde Park perfectly classy, cozy, and full of energy. The décor is stylish in black and red, with a Southern lounge feel, and it's right next to The Silver Room. Service was quick and friendly, even on a busy Sunday. The menu is extensive. I had the chicken and mini waffles with potatoes, and everything was flavorful and well-seasoned. My family loved the roast beef empanadas, catfish, and black beans (my mom called them "perfect"). Portions are a bit small, but the flavors make up for it. Prices run $11-$30+, and sharing a few dishes works great. Overall, a delicious first visit. I'll definitely be back!

Overrated. Me and a friend was excited to come and dine at the New location in Hyde Park. They didn't have there liquor license, so we weren't able to ordered drinks. But, you could BYOB The decor is very beautiful. Enjoyable music and cool vibes. But, the food wasn't what we expected. Soul Food should be seasoned and cooked with Love. The catfish was fried perfect but lacked flavored. The fried tomatoes tasted like they were fried in some old corn meal. My friend ordered the dressing and it was dry and hard. No gravy or cranberry sauce. . The Yams were pretty and the cabbage wasn't seasoned. The prices on the menu is ridiculous and not worth it. The service was just ok. Our waitress was dry and seemed not to care to be at work. Food 4/10 Ambience 9/10 Service 5/10

I heard about this restaurant through word of mouth and social media. I was not prepared for how beautiful it was in terms of decor and ambiance. From the minute you walk in, it's almost like you are taken on a trip to your favorite scene in a 90s or early 2000s movie. Our server, Mari, was exceptional. She was friendly, attentive and no ask felt too much for her. On to the food. My favorite dishes were a tie between the lobster mac and cheese and the jerk tacos. The jerk tacos have a secret sauce that explodes in your mouth with flavor. And you see how the cheese on the mac and cheese pulls apart in my picture! The sweet potatoes were also really good, but definitely sweet. My least favorite dish was the cornbread. It was missing something. But overall, from the service, decor and to the food - Jordyn's is a winner.

I wasn't in the mood for soul food that night. But my friend suggested it and so, we went. I'm glad I did. Currently, they're BYOB, but they have a bar on one side of the restaurant, so I'm assuming a liquor license is in the works. Service was friendly and pleasant, with our server sporadically checking on us during our meal to ensure we were good throughout the meal. The fried green tomates: Seasoned, perfectly fried, and not greasy. The sweet/spicy gravy/sauce with it, though, is a miss. The smothered chicken (they're 4 wings), mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, greens, and candied yams are all solid choices. I liked how the smothered chicken was still crispy despite the gravy. But, the pot roast my friend ordered is the star of the show! You can taste many of the seasonings they used, which are blended perfectly to give it flavor. Next time I'm coming, I want the pot roast!

Okay, here we go .... It's located on 53rd Street Hyde Park, so if you are familiar with this area arrive about 30 minutes to an hour early to find parking. I went on a Saturday with 2pm reservations, and easily found parking within a blocks walk without having to drive around. The location is quant but has more seating than expected. It's a posh, blend of vibes and red velvet seating arrangements. I loved the fact that they sat us at a comfy booth table but they also have bar seating. Make sure to arrive with your party to be seated. They have a waiting space in the back with about 5 chairs. Once seated, our server promptly came over and took our order which we tried the Margarita flights (blueberry, passion fruit, strawberry lemonade, and mango) strawberry lemonade was my favorite. The lamb chops cooked Tender, Mac, and Broccolini. My friend orders the Smothered Snapper, Greens, and Mashed Potatoes with Gravy on the side. We ate every bite ... thought I we would have left overs. Very well seasoned. The server staff was nice and attentive, they do get busy at times, but always try to make sure you have what you neeed. Things take a while to be prepared but it shows that they care about every plate they're crafting for their customers. If you need to try a brunch in the city, that always time for you to spill the beans and connect over good food and music then this is the spot. Also, the music is RnB vibes.

Food/ drinks / prices The prices were reasonable, I ordered the Oxtails and Grits ($35)which were very delicious. It took a while for the food to come and one order was missing which put a damper on things. Service / 2/5 This was Jordyn's Soul Cafe new location. Upon arrival we learned they weren't serving alcohol as their liquor license was still pending. I believe there was an option to BYOB at a cost which of course, we opted not to do. It was brunch, it wasn't a huge disappointment. The servers were young adults who weren't proactive, attentive and didn't place an order for one our guest. The server seemed really inexperienced. It would serve the young lady well if management provided adequate training and shadowing for their young servers. The manager eventually came and rectified the situation however the server did not have great interpersonal or customer service skills. Ambiance/location 4/5 Conveniently located on Grand Avenue in a quaint shopping area that bustling with people and activity. Ambiance was such a cute spot with comfortable seating and Instagram photo worthy décor which also included a phot opp backdrop for customers. If you're driving, parking will be scarce as its typically very busy w/no parking lot. We took a Lyft so it was a much better option as is was busy midday traffic and congestion. Overall 3/5 due to the poor customer service.

I came here for carryout on a Friday. It seemed a little pricey for soul food, and I was not sharing, so I got two appetizers, the fried green tomatoes and shrimp tacos. I was not eating red meat or pork at the time, I'll try those when I have company. I placed the order with the friendly hostess. She told me half an hour but I got a text much sooner. The fried green tomatoes (after I heated them in the oven, not the microwave) were crisp, well breaded, and not too salty. The tacos (coming in a set of 3) ate more like a fajita, as it had shrimp, cheese, sauce, and small tortilla wrap bread; tacos usually have those things as well, but also lettuce or tomatoes, and a hard-like shell. I know it's not supposed to be authentic Mexican, it's just a 'soul taco' and it was so good I almost hate to quibble! I want to try the egg rolls next time (another interesting take on fusion ethnic food). I hope they get a liquor license, or at least waive the corkage fee, when I go back to dine in.

Jordyn's Soul Cafe was sooooo good! Quick quality service, friendly & professional waitstaff and great ambiance. The food was soooo delicious! Large portions and def a great value for your money. Will be returning for another good meal.

One of thee best short ribs I've had! Fell off the bone! Tasty & Cooked to perfection! I could not stop eating it even though I should have! Solid sides although my sis sent the dressing back; bad batch, we still coming back! Waitress was young, friendly and gave good recommendations. No alcohol was a bust, corkage fee, no thank you. We went across the way for drinks after this fabulous meal. Huge space.

A couple friends and I met for lunch and we typically enjoy the food here. We'd made a reservation for this afternoon, Sunday @ 1:45pm. Today, there were a couple of things that made our visit less than stellar. Food - 3.5 Service - 3.5 Ambiance - 4 We ordered the fried green tomatoes, pot roast empanadas, soul egg rolls, shrimp and grits and catfish and grits. 1. Shrimp and catfish had a great flavor, but grits were undercooked and cool. 2. When we asked for some hot grits, they were heated up in the microwave and brought back to us. 3. We ate and paid for our meal, then each ordered something separately to take home. A 20% gratuity was charged on our carry out orders. We were told by our server that gratuity could not be removed unless we ordered with the hostess in the front. When I went to place an order in the front, my food (carry out) was taken away!

My wife and met a friend here since we were visiting from Texas. The restaurant looks nice and has a great vibe with the music playing! Very casual atmosphere from staff to patrons. We were sat promptly and greeted. They have a number of great food options. We tried pot roast egg rolls which has great flavor but needed more meat! There's a sauce they serve in the side that is pretty tasty. My wife and I shared the jerked lamb chops with cabbage and yams! Now this was an excellent meal. Those lamb chops were juicy, tender, and well seasoned, the yams were not too sweet and were excellent, the cabbage was on point as well! I can say I was not disappointed by the meal. (We shared cause we snacked all day, but not big enough if you are starving). As far as drinks! When went thru had not acquired their liquor license so it was BYOB. I made a quick walk to Trader Joe's to get margaritas and scotch. The wait staff do work together but they do not seem well organized. Waitress was missing a few times, I had to ask others for water and a refill. Price is a bit high for serving size and no drinks. We spent $142 on 3 people.

We were seated promptly and greeted by our lovely host, who truly brought the "chemistry" to our table and woke up our entire vibe! Everything from the drink presentation to the final dessert was phenomenal. We tried the Patron flight, which I highly recommend. I ordered the stuffed salmon, perfectly seasoned, with rice and spinach that was incredibly flavorful. My sister had the lamb chops with garlic mashed potatoes speechless. And our birthday girl went with the jerk salmon and asparagus. She loved it so much she cleaned her plate and couldn't stop talking about how amazing it was. Overall, we had an unforgettable experience. The music, the food, the energy--everything was a 20/10. If you're in Chicago, this place is a must-visit. I made it there within 48 hours, so no excuses!

Chant is in a great location in Hyde Park. Offering great Asian dishes. I was a little disappointed…read morein the service we were sat in the corner of the restaurant. The staff forgot about us and we had to flag them down to start ordering. Overall the food was delicious and the prices are very reasonable. It has a neighborhood restaurant and bar feel to the place with TVs that are showing sports games.

Sambal catfish with Cole slaw and cavitappi noodles in cheese sauce. The fish and cole slaw were very tasty. The noodles were okay. Koren Fried Chicken with pickles, corn bread, mash potatoes and gravy. The chicken was fried hard, it was a whole chicken but it was just okay in flavor. The pickle was a little weird. Mashed potatoes and gravy while I suspect they are powdered potatoes were decent on flavor. Pass on the corn bread. Lobster rangoon was pretty good. Honey Chipotle wings had a tasty sweet sauce. Fried green tomatoes was inedible, the green was too green leaving them hard, difficult to slice and bitter so we sent them back. Service was excellent, they took them away without a word and didn't charge us. Saigon noodles, best bite of the night! Tender beef, flavorful sauce, scallions and perfectly cooked noodles. Yum. Shrimp spring rolls. Just okay. Quesibirria eggrolls with tomato basil sauce, second best bite of the night. Tender meat, innovative sauce. Perfect eggroll shell. Grenada 9, spring fever, hibiscus margarita, all tasty! Lastly, there was a band. It was too loud (taking away from the dining experience especially with the acoustic feedback) and because my mother told me when you have nothing good to say, dont say anything, I'll stop there.
