Called to confirm that they had the only thing that I wanted for my birthday dessert- peach cobbler. The young lady was very nice and said they do. The restaurant wasn't crowded with a couple dining in. The peach cobbler was just okay but I love what they do for the community! I would go back to try some other things. read more

I will say this the food was edible. It wasn't the best tasting. I'm not saying food needs to be salty to taste good but to me, the taste was not popping enough for me to wanna go back. I had the turkey wing macaroni and greens and even though the macaroni had the goo factor. It wasn't tasty enough for me greens below standard. Again everything was edible, but it was giving senior citizen home soulfood. they're only open on the weekends so that works for their customer base I guess so they can get the best bang out of their customers.. I don't know if I go back baby. I need to try something else. The turkey wings have good flavor, but the meat itself was tender and dry at the same time. I had been seeing so many good reviews on FB, so I decided this is where I wanted to celebrate my birthday . When we, my grand daughter and her little great granddaughter daughter arrived at the restaurant, the first thing that I noticed was how clean it was. The set up was cafeteria style. So we got our trays went around the counter and was served by the server. I got smothered pork chops, sweet potatoes and macaroni cheese, and my granddaughter got smothered chicken greens and macaroni and cheese so after I paid, the waitress escorted us to our seats the first thing I ate on my plate was the smothered pork chops and they were very, very good. Also, my granddaughter stated that her baked chicken was very good, but those side dishes were straight out of a can. The yams and the greens, out of a can. And the macaroni and cheese had so much cheese in it, that by the time it cooled off at our table it was hard as a brick. Now this is coming from a place of love because I want to see my people succeed, but you gotta do better with the side dishes, and I will be coming back in the near future to see if the sides dishes any better. Well first off parking sucked...parked right on 87th st..long line to order...that wasnt too bad..Ordered the 15 dollar holla..3 fried wings, 2 sides mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, muffin. The food was not good at all. Stated food was home made. The dressing looked like they used jiffy. The color was off. Lacked flavor. The mac and cheese had parts that didn't have cheese just sitting in pan. The catfish stated 2 pieces, that's because 1 fillet was cut in half. The 2 muffins was a joke. I was so excited to finally taste your cooking but I'm sooo disappointed the Mac and cheese tasted like Velveeta cheese which is FAKE where's the cheddar Colby Jack Gouda hell even munster or Brie some kind of real cheese the meat loaf tastes SWEET why is that? And don't get me started on these dry ass cornbread muffins Now I don't know what I'm going to eat because this mess is trash and that's exactly where it's about to go! My Grandpa has talked about this place so many times. So, on Sunday he said you want to grab some Soul Food. I said sure I wanted to see what he was raving about. We entered the location and was immediately greeted by the sweetest lady. I ordered the Fried Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Dressing, and Lemonade. I did ask was there any pork products in the Dressing as I know that some use pork sausage. I was told that there weren't any pork products used. The Fried Chicken was cooked fresh to order as I had to wait for it to be cooked. The Mac and Cheese and Dressing were amazing. I am always scared to try restaurants Mac and Cheese and Dressing because it just doesn't come out right but not here. This is the 2nd black-owned business that I have attempted to support this week and have been let down. The staff were super nice and friendly but the food could have be a lot better. I spent $28.99 for oxtails and $81.05 for 3 dinners totaled. The oxtails were seasoned well but way too much fat on them. The dressing was just okay nothing to write home about and greens needed something, more seasoning or. ‍ the mac and cheese and cabbage were not that bad at all. My daughter did enjoy the baked chicken however, the sweet potatoes had way too much nutmeg and I am pretty sure you shouldn't be tasting that in the dish. I don't know if I would return or not. It's quite expensive for the quality of food received. I should have gone with my first mind to cook my own soul food but I didn't feel like it. Good luck to guys though really. The mother/owner (?) was very attentive! The price was great, but the quality of the food was ALL barely lukewarm wasn't. I had smothered pork chops, which were thin (breakfast pork chops) that were cold, dry/tough to the cut, runny, with greasy gravy. I brought my family, who ordered chicken and fish. They gave us their side and 1 cornbread muffin the size of a quarter (Really! Why?). We sat there waiting for about 15 mintues for 3 chicken wings and 1 piece of fish, and I had to ask what the hold-up was, and then I was informed it was cooked to order. I explained to the manager that my family food would be cold if they didn't eat it while waiting for the meat that I was not told was cooked to order. She then said, "What do you want me to do about it?" I didn't reply. I asked her if I could get a better-looking pork chop, which she honored, and it looked no better than the first one. When she came to the table, she saw it was not touched. I love going to and patronizing BOO restaurants, which I never regret. I ate here about 15 years ago, and the food and quality were much better. My grandkids said the spaghetti was good, as were the chicken and fish, but the batter used was salty. If you want a side dish or any additional items, they are almost half the price of the current special. For me to write a review, trust me, it had to be what I deemed a poor experience. For sure, below standard and quality. I'd say go to show support, but don't anticipate high expectations. The restaurant seems to have elderly, very supportive patronage that brings their family or grandchildren like I did, but surely not a place that I'd think our younger generation would recommend to anyone. read more

Today my partner, a friend and I were among the unfortunate potential Customers who attempted to attend St. Rests 51st Anniversary Celebration. We arrived at 6:00pm and waited in line to enter the restaurant for 90 minutes before we decided to leave. We were at the door and noticed 10 people came out of no where and were escorted to the food line while everyone else was waiting in line on the outside. Even the people waiting in the food line inside the restaurant were waiting a long time to receive their meal. This event was very unorganized and poorly planned. If you're not going to do something right, why so it at all. The restaurant management went out of their way to lose patronage. How do you justify treating the community that has patronized you and kept your doors open for 51 years with so much disrespect.. This wasn't a celebration, it was a disrespectful act and a slap in the face to those that wanted to support their business. read more

I finally had the privilege to visit this local gem. I went into this place with the hopes of getting some good old fashioned soul food, what I received was something better than I expected . I was very emotional from news I received days before. I had no idea I would still be emotional. The cashier(Angel) saw I could not eat all my food because I was crying. She came over and hugged me. After she walked away her grandmother came over, hugged me and began to talk to me. She assured me that I would be ok. My food was packed up for me and then I left. Once I got into my vehicle, a gentleman, who was sitting in front of me, came to my car. He asked if he could pray for me and did. I felt so blessed and grateful for these people. I will be returning. By the way, I ordered the smothered chicken, cabbage, green beans, and cornbread. The food was beyond delicious and I believe made with love. Thank you for all you did. My family and I recently celebrated our brothers 55 birthday at this restaurant, and it was our first time there, upon entry we were greeted with the nicest staff, very friendly upon approach, the restaurant was nice and clean, the tables were even clean, but the food was exceptional, it was down right DELICIOUS! While driving through the Chatham neighborhood I craved a breakfast one afternoon. I was literally stopped in traffic facing eastbound on 87th Street. I glanced to my right and the chef of St. Rest #2 was literally waving me in. I lowered the window and said "You all serve breakfast?" Without hesitation he confirmed and guiding me into the parking lot. I ordered the build it yourself omelet with turkey sausage and green peppers. A nice size side of hashbrows and homemade biscuits. My buddy had the grits with his omelet and I manage to swipe a few samples. I never really had mind blowing grits before until I walked into St Rest #2, I almost didn't feel guilty eating them. Their turkey sausage was superb, a little crust action shield locking in the flavor until you take that first bite. Perhaps the Captain America of turkey sausage I might add. The staff was extremely friendly and the chef actually chatted with me for a few to check up on my experience. Tina our server was polite and knowledgeable I would go back again just for her to pour me coffee. This place gets packed on Sundays, and the restaurant is cafeteria-style - you point out what you want to eat/try out, and they charge you per item at the end. They even had sweet tea, a good concoction, so I was pretty excited for that. I particularly liked the baked chicken (the skin is quite nice) and it's juicy; the collared greens? A must have! The smothered porkchop and the meatloaf were just okay; so was the cornbread as it was more on the drier side and less sweet.
