Wandered in after dinner nearby with my husband. We were surprised to see they were open until 9pm! Staff were friendly and they have a large selection inside. They had tons of fun socks which I didn't expect. My husband loves to dress up a fancy outfit with crazy socks so I'll keep this in mind. Fantastic service and quality products are reasons to check Jos A. Banks out for your men's suit and accessory needs. Located in the up scale Promenade Shops off Laskin in the corner. Plenty of clean parking and the lot is well lit. The exterior to the strip is in great shape and attractive. My son needed a new suit for various Senior things and we decided to try here first. The female staff took such good care of us we never left. The selection was strong and the prices competitive. They do not offer in house tailoring which was a drawback. However they do have places nearby recommend. We got suit, two belts, tie, shoes and socks for $325 which was fair in my opinion. Checkout was smooth and some items will need to be mailed, no additional charge. They recently extended their hours going into warmer months as well as COVID conditions improving. Went here to get a suit. Looked around and all sales people were busy so we waited. We were never approached by anyone. We finally got an associate to help us. He started measuring picked out a jacket told my husband to put it on and he would be right back. Stood there for over 10 mins and the guy never returned I walked around and saw him measuring someone else for alterations. I approached the desk and told a girl I needed help. She said she would be there in a few minutes. She measured my husband and told him a different size from what the guy told us. She kept looking online for sizes of colors and I told her we just want a suit and any color just as long as it was in the store. We were looking around and a coworker asked her to handle a return at the desk from a customer and that he would take over helping us. Now he said everything she gave us was wrong size etc. so he started looking for sizes and then just left and started helping another customer at the desk. So we were left just standing there. We had already been in. The store with basically no help. I'm looking at the prices and thinking I'm about to drop a lot of money and the customer service was so poor it was almost none existent. We left and went to Macys and got suit better quality for a better price. I'm so happy we left this store. Would not recommend and will never purchase from them again read more

Came to this location to exchange some pants and just browsed around the store. The exchange went smoothly and the staff were helpful in finding me the same pants in different sizes while I was in the dressing room. I have also been to the location in Chesapeake, and I feel like this location is larger and their inventory is better organized by color, size, and type of suit. As a heads up, I feel like there's almost always a sale going on, so I wouldn't let that pressure you into buying a suit right away. read more

I'm not one that usually writes reviews but I felt i had to on this one. I experienced the worst customer service in a clothing store in 40 years. I was ordering a rental tux for a wedding. As soon as I mentioned rental, I was handed off to a new employee who had never done a rental before. He obviously had no training, not his fault. Tried to measure me while I had a sport coat on, didn't know how to operate the reservation system but he was trying his best. The "manager" could not be bothered to help with anything. I standing there thinking I need this tux for my daughter's wedding and I have zero confidence that it will come in on time or even be the right size. I could not have been more disappointed and would never recommend this store to anyone for even buying socks! read more

I waited way too long to get a tuxedo for New Years celebration. All of my suits are Tom James custom-made, so I'm used to a great fit. A young man named Allen started to help me and I was certain I was going to ask questions he wouldn't know the answer...was I ever wrong! He measured and was able to find a tux off the rack with minimal alterations. Allan was most helpful in helping me to think through all of the accessories including shoes, cuff links, suspenders, etc. I walked out feeling great in the accomplishment and especially in price compared to Tom James. I'm curious if I've enough character spaces to adequately express the magnificent and unparalleled first-rate experience I had with the Store Manager, Gregory Barkhaur and his junior store associate at the La Promenade Store location a few weeks ago on the 4th of Feb. My wife and I were immediately greeted by Gregory's associate with a such a soft, humble, and welcoming presence that I immediately felt comfortable. I can't overstate it enough how his warm and easy-going presence just draped over me like a warm blanket. I regret that I can't recall his name; however, I would be remised if I didn't say how this associate calming nature and Gregory's scholarly and passionate spirit played perfectly off one another. After a few easy-going minutes with the junior associate, Gregory with well-placed timing greeted me and my wife and it soon thereafter Greg just radiated a classy, fun-filled environment that my wife and I happily jumped right into. I'm from Long Beach, CA. where "chill" is a way of life. However, my beautiful wife is from Manhattan, New York where expectations are high, and she's not as easily impressed particularly when it comes to style and class. That said, in the car ride home she told me that his class and style was by far the superior to anything she's encountered here in Virginia. We loved everything he put together for me and the guy just radiated a passion for what he does. I mean just happy and excited that he gets to do what he does for a living. If Gregory ever ventured out on his own, I'd be his first customer! I hope Jos. A. Bank realizes the asset he is to this fine store that we had the privilege to witness. The worst part of Jos A Bank - Virginia Beach is finding the store. GPS is not able to negotiate the neighborhood with any accuracy. Once there, however, you will be glad you found it. Especially if it is during one of the store's great sales events. Ms. Romance was courteous, knowledgeable and efficient is showing the stock and aiding in selecting and measuring. The tailored items were available when promised and as expected. Great products for a great price with very amenable staff. read more

I have never felt so compelled to leave a review on Yelp before. This is my first. We went to this store in mid December in search for a suit for my fiancé for our wedding. The store was understaffed and, just as a previous reviewer had noted, (should have read the review before we went), we waited a hour before we had any service. The service we then received was marginal at best. We decided to go ahead and buy the suits there (mistake) as they were having a BOGO sale and we didn't have time to shop around. The whole time we were there the employees were bickering about who was going to help the customers. We were told the suits would arrive on December 21st and that they would call. They never did. My fiancé called the week after the new year and was told that his suits were not there and that they couldn't look up any information without a manager present. Today, January 22nd, we went to the store to speak with the manager in person. The suits were in and filed under the wrong name. We were told that they had tried to contact us in December when the suits came in. If they did or did not contact us, they should have been able to find the information on the computer when we called weeks later or followed up again. The customer service associates were bickering again today, arguing with each other about taking each other's customers. One of these was the managers. We expressed our dissatisfaction with the manager today. She offered no refunds or free alterations to compensate for our poor service as we requested. Here is a Yelp review instead. For the second time in a row I had a problem with the store in Virginia Beach. The first time they would not honor a gift card they issued because of their mistake. Today I spent an hour picking out an outfit on sale, having the sales person constantly keeping me waiting to run after other customers only to have the outfit which she said qualified for the sale not qualify. They ruined my fiance's tux the day before the wedding said they would replace it with one from their newport news store and then told us the day of that they did not in fact have a replacement tux for us!!!! We've been to this store multiple times, for various items... Suits, general menswear, etc. Every single time we go in, the manager has been EXTREMELY rude to us, as well as her fellow employees. She is quick to pass us off onto other people, does not have the time for assisting them, and overlooks us (Pretty Woman-style). The customer service was AWFUL!! The salesmen tried to put my husband into a suit that two sizes too big to get the alteration fees. We were left numerous times while the salesman waited on other people. It was up to us to find the necessary size and even then we couldn't get the salesman to pay us any attention. I never leave reviews, but felt compelled to warn others after my experience with this store. I took in a Jos A Bank suit I bought for a wedding at another location to get it tailored. I needed the suit tailored in two weeks as I was moving out of the area and did not have time after the move to get it tailored. I noted this fact to the sales rep and she said that is the standard time to tailor suits, so I agreed and paid for it. Two weeks pass, I go into the store around 11 a.m. to pick up my suit and it's nowhere to be found. I immediately realize the suit has not been tailored yet. Strike 1. After searching for 15 minutes they locate my suit, but with no tailoring done. The woman tells me that I was supposed to come after 5 p.m. to pick it up. I begrudgingly leave, worried that my suit will not get the proper care and attention to detail tailoring requires. I come back at 5 p.m. and, guess what, the suit is still not done. Strike 2. The older gentleman who was now helping me, who is the only redeeming quality this store has, offered to take me and my suit to his personal tailor off-site and pay for it out of his pocket. The manager said no, get our tailor down here and see what we need to do to it (note: when I dropped the suit off I obviously got it marked up for tailoring). The tailor comes down with a full head of steam and says that whoever marked up the suit didn't know what they were doing and began making her own adjustments. She takes the suit and rushes upstairs. 20 minutes later she comes down and tells me to try it on. There was a 3 foot long string hanging off my jacket, so I ask if she at least sewed it back up correctly. She says nothing and yanks the string off my suit. At least it's not a $1000 suit... Oh wait. The pants were way too long, so she takes them back and re-sews the hems. After trying on the jacket, I see that the marks initially made to tailor it were in fact necessary. Strike 3. At this point I've had it, and just left with a haphazardly tailored suit. I could tell you all the things I would've done differently, but my advice to you is go somewhere else for your suit needs. Anywhere else. I guarantee you will have a better experience elsewhere. read more

I've been shopping at Joseph a Banks for many many years and this was the worst and most rude experience. The salesman was super aggressive and as soon as he figured out I wasn't going to buy a suit he decided to ignore us. I picked out a couple of shirts and a couple of ties but couldn't find the shirt style and size I wanted and when we asked him for help he pointed to the shelf and said they're all there and walked away. I will not be back and I am headed right now to their biggest competitor. read more
