Jose is awesome. I asked my previous hairdresser for a TRIM and dye it dark brown. She cut off 6" to the "in between" stage and died it black. I hated it . I couldn't do anything with it, so I decided to cut the whole mess off. I'd never been to Jose before, but the reviews were great. I thought even if the cut wasn't great, it would be far better than what I had. Sometimes a cut/color looks great when you first leave a salon and looks awful after the first hair wash. Jose gave me the exact cut I wanted. I've already washed it. Even without styling, it looks great. When you go into the salon, you'll see a lot of lovely paintings Jose created. He uses the same artistry for hair. I decided to get highlights and unlike other hairdressers who use one color, Jose blended copper, gold, and burgundy highlights on chocolate brown. He deserves at least 500*, but I'll have to settle with 5*. There's a reason why he has so many people are leaving such great reviews. I'm looking forward to my next hair cut and color. I am the absolute worst when it comes to my hair and beyond critical of anyone who cuts my hair. As someone who recently moved to Los Angeles, I have been struggling to find a place I feel comfortable at and have had some negative experiences at barbers. I am so glad I gave the Jose Abdo Salon a try! I live very close to the Jose Abdo Salon and had seen it multiple times on my way to work. Today, I decided to do some research and was pleasantly surprised by the positive reviews on Yelp. After I made an appointment for 4pm, I walked in nervous yet hopeful. From the get-go, Jose made me feel comfortable and at ease, as he is a friendly individual with a very professional yet approachable demeanor. I've been trying to accomplish the ultimate 90s bumper look for about a year, but no hairdresser/barber seems to level with me. When I showed Jose a picture of my ideal cut, he immediately knew what to do and explained everything in detail. I was so relieved to finally have found someone competent! After cutting my hair and providing me with some great advice on styling and hair care, I walked away extremely satisfied. I can honestly state that I have not been this happy with my haircut in YEARS. I normally wear a hat after getting a haircut to shower and style at home, but not this time. I have no idea what Jane was thinking when she called Jose rude. I have been going to Jose for over 2 years. Jose is one of the most friendliest and courteous people I have ever met. Every time I come to his office he offers me drinks and food. He is located across the street from Fairfax High on Melrose in a artful salon that he decorated himself. I used to be a person who never believed in paying more than 10 dollars for a haircut. After going to Jose I have changed my stance. His hair cuts are great and I actually find that I save money because he understands how to cut hair so that it grows out right. I am a regular with Mr. Abdo and simply can't see myself going to any other barber after experiencing his quality of work. I've gone to him for years because he's very skillful, knows how to cut hair, is always ready to suggest something new, and has the ability to pull it off. I always feel safe in his hands even when I'm trying a new look. But in the end he's not cocky or arrogant about it. I've always had the experience that he tries his best to get me what I want. I have been going to Jose for the past 2-3 years now. He is EXCELLENT and his prices are very reasonable - a hidden gem when it comes to hair salons. I'm Asian so I inherently distrust any non-Asian cutting my hair. But Jose knew exactly how to get the job done. Instead of using scissors, he uses a shaving blade (the old fashioned kind) that he grazes in short, quick strokes all over the top of my head. The result is a much softer feel that is also textured and has an almost velvety sheen. I have never seen this technique used before, which is a credit to Jose's skill. And I love it. Jose always offers me something to drink from his large selection of beverages. Washing usually ends with an amazing scalp & shoulder massage (he is also a massage therapist so he knows what he is doing). Appointments are easy to get. I can't speak to some of the more complicated services like coloring, etc., but if you are a guy, particularly an Asian guy, and you are looking for a stylist who "gets" Asian hair at a super reasonable price, go see Jose! read more

He was also very efficient and didn't waste my time. Haircut with a quick wash was all done in approx 30mins. Also very reasonably priced compared to many salons in LA. I found Jose in 2007 by accident, I just happened to be parking my car outside his salon, my brother needed a hair cut so we walked in. While waiting for my brother, looked at his clients haircut photos and his paintings. I was so impressed that I walked out of there that day with a new haircut and highlights. I have never looked back. He is an artist (no, I mean he really does paint and sell his beautiful art) and he literally paints my hair every time I go to him. I have been getting my hair cut with Jose for over 20 years. Once I met Jose, I never considered going anywhere else. His haircuts are consistently high-quality and he has always been interested in giving me the look that I want. I always enjoy coming to his salon, which has his wonderful art on the walls. My wife and daughter come to see him as well, and he always takes good care of them and they always leave looking great. In fact, Jose has known my daughter since she was born and is the only person who has ever cut her hair. When I originally went to Jose, his salon was close to where I lived in Hollywood. But since 2006, I have driven 45 minutes across town to see him, even though there are salons all over the west side. It is well worth the time I spend to get there, since he always gives me a cut I am happy with and the time we spend together is always enjoyable.
