Then I showed him a picture of me with the haircut I wanted (which was a burst fade Mohawk) and he proceeded to say "is that really you". This was at the beginning of the hair cut. Mid way he asked a second time if I had ever had this hair cut before which I answered yes. Also at the beginning he had mentioned how much are we taking off the top. I mentioned just a little bit and we can work our way down. When it came to cutting the top I feel he had gone too low. At that point I just wanted to get out of the chair. I waited 2 days to post this just to see if my hair needed to settle in since I went from a wild lions mane to what ever this short hair cut I have now. But no matter how much I attempt to style my hair it just looks dumb. My feedback to Hin is if you aren't confident in cutting someone's hair then please just say so. Or if your specialty is clean cuts then tell your client so they can make the decision of sitting in the chair. I may come back to try with someone else to cut my hair since I feel the people here have some skill.

At my appointment, Kaz started with a wash and then spent a solid 40-60 minutes on the cut. He's super detailed. It felt like he was paying attention to every single strand. Yuji was my hairdresser, and he was so kind, precise, and skilled with my haircut. When I first walked in, I thought, "ah this really is a no frills hair salon," and I'll admit I was a little nervous since it was my first time and I didn't know what to expect. As soon as I sat down, my nerves went away. Yuji was so gentle and attentive, and I felt really well taken care of. My appointment lasted about an hour and included a wash and cut. Parking is validated for up to two hours, which is definitely enough time. I was so happy with my results. I truly don't know how Yuji creates such magic with his hands! I'll be coming here from now on for my haircuts. Please show Yuji and Hair Craft your support by leaving a generous tip. An establishment like this that truly gives you high quality results for such a generous price deserves to be met with gratitude and good tips. Too many salons are charging an arm and a leg for a basic trim these days, and Hair Craft is not one of them. There were only 1-2 stylists working during my visit, so please be patient and make sure to book at least three weeks in advance. When I booked, they were already scheduled out for three weeks, and I overheard them telling other callers the same thing. Thankfully, it was absolutely worth the wait. I spent years growing my hair to be healthy & strong, & I have ended up with fried hair that I have had to slowly nurse back to even halfway health. Come here if you want to be ignored, gaslighted, & end up with completely damaged, ruined hair. I do NOT recommend this salon for Black women / women of color / curly textures. This is long so buckle up. I originally reached out for a simple color service & was referred to Aly. I came in for a consultation and after an hour, she told me to continue texting her ideas so that we could figure the look out together. She then proceeded to mostly ignore me, & when she did respond, she sent photos of basic results nowhere near what we had discussed. Frustrated, I decided to come back in to just get my test strand toned back. She didn't even care to respond, just passed me off to the front desk. When I came back, I was asked if I wanted to consult with another stylist, Daniel, known for being "great with color." I have dark brown hair, & he assured me the cinnamon red look I wanted was achievable. In retrospect, having now lost my long & super healthy hair, still recovering from excessive chemical damage 10 months later, I WISH I had just walked out the door. For context, I had healthy, fine hair in long layers, anywhere from 2A-2C mixed wavy/curly textures, with length about an inch past my bust. I had defined curls, shine, & softness, & barely heat styled. Daniel lightened my hair with a low volume (supposedly) bleach & put a heat lamp on it. The heat lamp was so close to my hair that I moved at one point & it melted the plastic hair cap. After, I noticed my wet hair felt dry & tangled when he was combing, but I was trusting the process. When he started blowing out, my hair was WAY too blond & visibly dry. We had to tone it again. After another toner & cutting layers - 8 hours later - the result was pretty but felt parched, & also was not what we'd discussed color-wise. I was headed out of town the next day, so he promised to tone me when I was back & I trusted him. Fast forward - I shampoo my hair on vacation. My hair is GUMMY, breaking & pulling out in clumps. I can't stop crying. My super healthy hair that I could run my fingers through whirl wet was now inexplicably matted & dry, to the point I couldn't even work shampoo in properly. My curl pattern was DESTROYED. I reached out to Daniel & he put me in touch with the salon owner, saying my hair seemed "healthy" condition when I'd left. When I got back to LA, he did a deep conditioning treatment & a keratin treatment on the house, which helped somewhat. He also cut a few more inches off due to the damage - mind you, we had originally discussed that retaining my length was extremely important to me. He said to come back in 2 weeks for the toner to achieve the final color I'd requested. Traveling again, I got a simple wash & set at a local salon bc at this point, I couldn't even manage my hair on my own anymore on a day-to-day basis. Again, I do not do chemical treatments. The stylist told me I had intense chemical damage & chemically burned hair. I ended up having to cut off more, leaving my hair a little past shoulder length. I reached out to Daniel letting him know about the chemical damage; at this point, he said because I'd gone to another stylist he "couldn't service my hair anymore." He wrote a long text where he falsely asserted my hair was in healthy condition when I'd left & that it'd been too long since the service for him to help. Like...what? I had sent numerous pics & videos of the matting, shedding, gummy clumps of hair to both you & the salon owner & you're going to try & gaslight me? You told me to come back later! For him to try & rewrite history was extremely disappointing, & I lost all respect for him. Given his lack of integrity, I cut my losses, blocked, & decided not to argue about it further. I had to cut my hair a third time into a shoulder length bob. Now, 10 months later, I've been able to grow my hair a few inches with consistent trims, conditioning treatments, & protective styles, but it is still so hard to manage. My curl pattern has not returned to normal. At this point, I am STRONGLY considering a big chop, which was the worst possible scenario IMO. I will have to start over & spend the next few years growing back all the hair I've lost & restoring it to the health that I had before I ever stepped foot in this salon. I have spent 100s of dollars on bond building & reparative products, as well as follow up visits at other salons. On top of that, the immense stress & anxiety of losing my beautiful & healthy hair for what should've been a simple service was extremely, extraordinarily depressing. If you made it this far, do yourself and the health of your hair a huge favor and GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

While I'm happy with how my perm turned out, the salon was overbooked. I completely understand stylists working with other clients while hair is processing, but my digital perm took about 6 hours, with a lot of waiting when I was clearly ready for the next step because my stylist was occupied with other clients. He was called on by the front desk at least 3 times that new/different clients were ready for him. My friend and I were both there for over six hours--surprisingly, her full highlights took even longer. I was also confused by the pricing. During the consultation, I was told that a certain hair length would put the perm at around $400, while keeping the length I wanted would make it closer to $600. That was already surprising considering it was only about a 2-inch difference in length for roughly $200 more. But then my hair was cut to approximately the shorter length anyway, and my final price was still $550. I'm not really sure how the pricing was calculated based on that. My friend's highlights were $500, even though her hair is shorter than mine, and her hair ended up looking surprisingly similar to how it did before. Between both of our services, the pricing felt very high for the overall experience. I do want to emphasize that I'm satisfied with how my perm looks and appreciated the care my stylist took while he was actually working with me. Unfortunately, between the six-hour appointment, the amount of waiting, and the price, I'm not sure the experience was worth it for me.

This lovely, edgy, sassy salon sits in the heart Venice, on Abbot Kinney. Dozens of times i'd passed it, but what finally drew me in was the skill & irrefutable talent of the one & only Danielle June, who has had exclusive rights to my 'locks' for over a decade now. As a Westsider, it had always been a 'well-worth-it' burden to travel south of El Segundo in order to have Danielle June trim, shag, layer, pomp & "do my Do" as only she could. With a head of hair that is wave, curl, kink n frizz in one, it takes an "arteest" of the highest order to be able to maneuver through what may very well be God's most challenging mane - and finding "THE ONE" - like in The Matrix - was a life-long mission. Danielle June, aka NEO, is in fact, "THE ONE" . . . . . . and it was as if i'd been announced as the next California mufti-million dollar lottery winner, when i found out that my Dani~J was now employed at The Harlot . . . . . virtually in my backyard. Days of traveling miles & miles to get to her are now over!! Simply put - she ROCKS!!!!!!! In a more elaborate definition - Danielle June puts intuitive artistry on the map. It takes an instant for her to survey, assess & determine what a head of hair needs. And whilst she can suggest & offer up her professional guidance on how to achieve the fullest potential of your hair, first & foremost is her attentiveness to & focus on what her client's wishes are. She is a collaborative genius, who does not ignore what her client's vision is, but can incorporate it into a perfect blend which integrates her expertise, as well. She is truly poetry in motion, a Grand Wizard of styling shears. There is a risk i take by boasting the prowess & aptitude of this incredible stylist, Danielle June; A growing fan base could reduce her accessibility to me if her calendar fills up that much more quickly. I first saw Lauren at a salon that was close to my house and when she said she was going to Harlot I thought, no way am I going to drive all the way over to West Hollywood to see her (I'm in Santa Monica). Well, I did and I am so happy that I made the trek over across the 405 (if you live in LA ya know). It is really hard to find someone who makes you feel at home and is kind, sweet, and actually knows what they are doing. From the first time I showed up to every single visit ( I go usually every 6 weeks) after she has remained the same. She is thorough and walks you through everything that she is going to be doing. No surprises and no crazy out of this world cost. If you are looking for a color, haircut, blowout, oh and the best cup of coffee in town:)...she is your woman! Oh and I sent my 70 year old mom to her too after getting a horrible and botched haircut somewhere else. Lauren was so good with her and explained everything! Not only did she make her look like a million bucks she even sent her a text after to check up on her and see if she had any styling questions. She does this for me as well and it is just another reason why I absolute adore Lauren. I have never had a stylist follow up to see if I like the color, cut, etc...She just takes it to the next step in customer service which I greatly appreciate. And The Harlot salon has the coolest stylists that work there and the friendliest vibe with of course a bit of an edge. Just check out the walls in the bathroom (a personal favorite). I was visiting from the UK and I stopped into this salon to see if I could get a wash and dry. It was a bit of a minute of waiting at the front desk to see if anyone could service me and I overheard who I now know is the owner Marylle Koken asking her employees to come check and see who I am at the front. The male employee walked back and told her that I am black. I heard the owner react in shock exclaiming "She's black?! Does she look well presenting?! What does her hair look like?!". Then a stylist came to grab me and did the wash and dry. She did perfectly well and I had no complaints about her. I feel like it was a simple enough service. The owner though, kept pulling her to the side and whispering that she doesn't want to get a bad review and questioning the stylist. After everything ended and I began walking out I overheard the owner telling the stylist to immediately disinfect all the tools that'd been used on me. As a black woman I feel completely disrespected and shocked. This has not sat well with me for over a month and I was debating sharing but I feel like this needs to be said. I understand that tools need to be disinfected but it was the tone and immediate demand that was more than off. The entire experience was blatantly racist. I would not recommend coming here if you are a black woman. Anorexic ozzy osbourne does not want us in her establishment, nor do I believe she even has the skill to work with hair that is not silky straight. read more

I love Molly and I love The Harlot!! Molly's been doing my hair for years; light, dark, layers, bangs, ombre....we've been through it all. She is super friendly and makes you immediately feel comfortable, and will totally execute the look you want-- or, if you are lacking a little vision, she always has amazing ideas for your hair. I'm so excited she is at the Harlot; there's an awesome little patio where you can sip your wine/cappuccino/mimosa...It's an intimate & friendly salon. My last visit, Molly gave me an awesome Sebastian Cellophane treatment that really warmed up my highlighted hair, gave it a ton of gloss and shine, and somehow made my skin tone look better instantly! She also did a deep conditioning treatment; it's all natural and minty and makes your whole scalp tingle. My hair is long, and Molly is working with me to keep it super healthy. OH and ps, she gives the BEST scalp massage on the planet! OK so this is the first review I have ever written because getting your hair done by Monique is a MUST. I went into The Harlot with shoulder length hair and a picture of a Fohawk with buzzed sides!. I am extremely picky about my hair and wanted a big change. Not only did Monique give me exactly what I wanted, but she really took the time to tailor the haircut to fit me. Every time I have my hair done by her I get so many compliments!. Monique has done my hair for the last two years and I have never been disappointed. She has taken me from dark to light, long to short, and back to long again with her AMAZING extensions. She does everything from long classy layers to short funky fohawks!. This is the first time I went to Harlot --I forgot the stylist name. Either Erika or Erin. She is the best stylist to ever cut or color my hair. I am not exaggerating when I say she is an artist when it comes to hair--she studies the shape of your face, your coloring, your lifestyle, takes into consideration what you want, and then begins to create. When she is done, be prepared for people to compliment you on your hair when you least expect it. And it's not one of those cuts that you don't know what to do with 48 hours after you left the salon--the cut stays fresh looking (in my case for about week and still counting), and as long as you follow her instructions, the color stays bright and shiny. I can't recommend her highly enough. She is kind, thoughtful, attentive and professional -- everything you want in someone who is polishing up your looks. i have never written a yelp review. this is the only one i have any intention of writing. i moved 3000 miles from DC to SF and by sheer coincidence, my favorite hair stylist of all time, nora novak moved at the same time from DC to LA. Lucky for me, shortly thereafter, i moved again, this time to LA and i decided to surprise Nora with a visit since she had been my all-time favorite. I showed up one day in Venice and even though it's not ultra-convenient transportation-wise, I told her i'd love to come back if she'd have me. I have been back in her chair ever since, because no one makes a hair appointment visit more worthy of looking forward to than does Nora, in terms of both her professionalism and personal touch and connection. in short, there is no one who has taken better care of my locks and also is more fun to banter with and who lights up the place! oh, and the harlot's ever-present oreos and peanut m&m's did not sway me to do this but it is a bonus. Srsly WHERE do I even begin ? the Queen Marylle (salon owner, award winning hair artist & mentor to many!!) has been crafting my hair into beautiful art ever since I was a model in her chair decades ago! I completely trust her to create ANY color, style, or vision with my hair , for she IS THATTTTTT DAMN GOOD - FULL STOP ! But that isn't even the best part - truly the BEST part is that every time I walk into her salon, I feel welcomed and at home. I followed my stylist Amanda Lyn to this amazing chic new salon on Abbot Kinney and I must say, I love everything about it! From the adorable decor to the incredibly comfortable (and stylish!) chairs, The Harlot is definitely the best salon in town! As for Amanda, I can't recommend her highly enough. For years I jumped from stylist to stylist always walking out dissatisfied with bland or sometimes laughably abhorrent cuts (the singular chunky platinum streak was not my thing). Not only is Amanda super friendly and generally one of the most laid-back people I know, but she knows exactly how to work with my hair. When I have a specific idea, she makes it work and when I don't (which is often) I just let her do her thing and it always comes out looking fantastic. Monique Thone is the greatest hairstylist I have ever had in my life!!! I have gone to it seems like 100s of stylist before and never been completely happy with cut and color till her. She is a genious and I only have been able to trust her completely! Before her I would keep the same old haircut which was blonde highlights and long layers however since her I have had dark aurburn red hair, short hair and even blunt bangs ( which I never had before and have been told in the past I could never have bangs due to my cowlick). I have had endless looks because of her and have loved every single one. I moved away and was so upset bc it took me 30 years to find her and I actually let my hair and color grow out until I saw her again. JAZ IS MY HAIR SAVIOR!! But seriously. The first time I came in, I asked for some highlights that would brighten up my face, but wouldn't require a ton of maintenance/touch-ups. And she completely delivered. Now it's been a year, and I've never been happier with my baby blonde, champagne color. Jaz knows what she's doing, and I always feel fabulous when it's time to leave. Plus, she's easy to talk to and so much fun to hang out with. All-around AMAZING stylist! After moving to LA from out of state, I spent a year trying to find a salon that I loved. I was lucky enough to find Danielle June at a time of transition where I desperately needed a change. It's always great to see someone with style that you can appreciate when they are helping you design a new look for yourself. It also helped that she and the crew at the salon gave me a cupcake/cookie/candy "cheer up" package that made things way more fun :) If you're looking for a short cut that is stylish and full of character she's your gal. She also managed to salvage three eras of color (new growth, dark ring, sun-bleached hombre) and brought me back to a solid darker color that brought back the magic in my skin tone and eyes. Love this salon! Beth is incredible! She absolutely cares about your hair just as much, if not more than you. I have been going through the difficult process of growing my hair out from nearly shaved, to Spicoli, for about a year now. Needless to say, maintenance is required to avoid all the awkward transitional lengths. My previous salon, completely ignored all my direction, ruining my hair, and setting me back to square one, time after time. Without saying a word, Beth knows the plan as soon as I walk in. She know where we were, offers advice where to go next, and like a fine artist, she begins sculpting. I came to the Harlot because of Beth Montgomery. The space is beautiful and it unexpectedly makes you feel empowered to do whatever you need to do to your hair. The owner Marylle is fun and supportive, making the whole environment really pleasant. Beth has played a huge part in helping me start loving my hair! I had an incredible experience working with Lauren at The Harlot Salon. As a curly haired girl, I am very particular about who I let cut my hair and Lauren was not only understanding and patient with me along the way, she SLAYED my cut. What i was looking for was dimensions that framed my face inside of the huge amount of hair that I have and I don't think any other hairstylist would have understood what I was even talking about. I had the pleasure of having an appointment with Ernie Garcia at The Harlot. I was ready for a dramatic transformation, and I knew Ernie was the stylist for me. He had the creative vision, and the technical skill to take me from shoulder length hair, to a more edgy sophisticated style with balayage accents to showcase the cut. I also really appreciated how the consultation was more of a collaboration and he explained what he thought worked and what didn't and why. The salon is too cute! And the rest of the team were also very friendly and welcoming. I was even brought over the lead stylist/ owner of the salon Marylle afterward to see how I like the finished product. I feel like a goddess every time I leave The Harlot!! I've been seeing Lauren for about 2 years now and my hair has never been more healthy and luscious since I started coloring it! During our first session, Lauren educated me about the condition my hair was in and walked me step by step how to care for it and make it healthier. The products Karina used smelled euphoric and the head massage will keep me coming back. Karina is easy to talk to and I'm happy to update her with all my new life changes next appointment. Parking :street meters on La Brea until 4PM Mon-Fri. Residential 2hr free until 6PM then you need a permit. I saw there was a parking lot next door, but love a free parking sitch when available. They accept Apple Pay and you could also use the same card you put on their website when booking your appointment. That helped me big time since I forgot my wallet at home.

Too much taken off the sides, the wrong parts taken from the back, and no blending in whatsoever. It couldn't be salvaged at all. When I tried to come back and get it fixed, the person on the phone said that I would have to pay again because Joy had left for the day. Because I was going out of town I decided to go somewhere else rather than pay $200 ($100x2) for this botched scissor cut. I came to a salon because I thought they could were better with long hair. It's clear to me now that the stylist was inexperienced with men's hair and did not know how to give me what I wanted and just guessed. If that's was the case she should have TOLD ME. Would not recommend.
