Don't expect to bring any food home. Not because it's so good. We needed to take home a meal for an ill dimly member for dinner after 3 of us eating and we were told they don't do take out. We asked if we ordered the meal and boxed it ourselves would that matter and were told that is considered take out. So. I like this place. First of all, it's CHEAP! The chips are good, but only sometimes warm. The sodas are huge with free refills. Many different and tasty appetizers. I love the eggplant royale. Its like nothing else. If you drop $20, you're taking food home. And I hate to say kids eat really cheap. Last time I went with kids I think it was $3.99 for a quesadilla, fries and a drink. We LOVE jose tejas. The food is great, offering tex mex and cajun style dishes. the kids meals are affordable and the kids love them. The atmosphere is perfect and our family of five can eat a great sit down meal for just a few bucks more than fast food. The wait staff has always been friendly, helpful and attentive. I love love love this place. I visit it very often. At one point I was coming here almost weekly. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is very laid back. I highly recommend the blackened chicken anything. It's all good. The blackened salmon is amazing as well. If you love hot stuff go for the Camp Town Shrimp. The sauce is to DIE FOR! I had gone there since it opened and used to love it. Early on I used to work across the street and went there at least once a week after work. Used to have good food and value. However, service has been sliding down hill over the last year and portion size and quality slipping. Last three visits very poor service and barely warm food. The last visit there was a 30-45 minute wait and my family and I were leaning up against the wall as there is absolutely no staging area in this place unless you want to belly up to the bar or sit next to the bathroom. The young poorly groomed "manager" at the greeting area, when he got finished chatting with the two young hostesses, decided he wanted us to move over to the bar even though we were out of everyone's way and had our 6 year old daughter with us. We left and won't be back. If you enjoy poor service and mediocre food, knock yourself out. If not, go elsewhere. read more

My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! I was seated immediately. The service was on point. Our waiter immediately replaced chips, salsa, and drinks without prompting as soon as they began to run dry. He was friendly and polite. The food was so so good. I ordered the blackened chicken appetizer and it was delicious. The fajitas were of a ridiculously large portion for the price of $12. I could only eat one! It was so filling. It is not usual you can find a place like this. It is a great place to bring the family and have great food, but it is also a place where you sit at the bar and have a few adult beverages and watch the game. I have yet to find an item on the menu that is not worth ordering. When you come in you are welcomed in a hot basket of chip and delicious salsa. The size of the soft drinks is incredible They also have a rule that once your glass is near empty they are required to bring you a new one...This is different than the usual taco & burrito places that have popped up all over. One of my favorites is the Frajita salad..For about $8 you get a very large delicious salad that is well worth the price .Not sure you would need much more after that, but if you do there is plenty to choose from. read more

It was my first time coming to this location, but I've been to the Woodbridge location numerous times. The food at Jose Tejas is always delicious. What I specifically loved about this location is that the wait time was a fairly short in comparison to the one in Woodbridge at the time of my visit. However, the only thing part I do not like is that the smell of the food in the restaurant is always embedded into my clothing & jacket when I step out of either locations. read more

Was at Jose Tejas in Fairfield NJ as a guest this past Sunday afternoon. Service was good but for what Jose calls a Shrimp Cesar Salad is a joke. The salad was drowned in dressing & couldn't tell I had shrimp. The shrimps were like little beads. I expected a bit bigger shrimps. I'm health conscious person and there is nothing on the menu if your looking for something healthy. Wish they offered or incorporated some healthy choices. This place is the best tex-mex Jersey has to offer...Fresh made tortilla chips, with awesome salsa...they bring you as much as you want until you say enough... Soooo-good. Order the guacamole with your chips, you wont regret it... My go-to meal is the BEST blackened chicken salad you'll ever have, huge and less than $8! how do they do it... My dad had the blackened sword fish... he loved it. my daughter had the enchiladas... yummy and filling. I have had the Fajitas before, can not be beat... Service is amazing, fast-efficient... They have great water served in big tumblers, with lots of ice, and a good beer selection, the service is efficient, and the ambiance is good. The menu is Mex/Cajun, and they have vegetarian choices. The food is disappointing. Very salty, and not particularly Mexican. It's sort of an upmarket taco bell. Too much cheese/sour cream, and the seasoning is nondescript, salty. and garlicy. I've been living in ff for 25 years and as long as I've been going to this restaurant we've ordered "extra" meals to bring home if one of the kids didn't want to go. My girlfriend and I ate at Jose Tejas for the first time and I do not know what all the craze is?? When ever I tried to go in the past it has always a really long wait and left. Now on a Monday night we had a 20min wait which wasn't to bad. The place is inexpensive but food was not anything to write home about and it was very, very salty. I feel so bloated and not satisfied! My girlfriend mentioned that Taco Bell had better Tacos lol I had the Burros which was basically a small Burrito with side of Salt salty rice that I couldn't finish and black beans. I can't say that I will go back to this place when there are many other Mexican restaurants in the area. read more
