I just stopped off to get a little dinner for myself 'cuz I'm trapped in this here Holiday Inn. I wasn't really expecting anything GOOD... but lo and behold... The food came out pretty quickly. The server/bartender was really nice and helpful. I asked her what SHE likes here, and she mentioned fajitas. So I got the Mexican Corn Fajita. When I got up to my room with it, I was kind of disappointed that there was no meat in there, but I realize that the menu didn't say squat about meat. My mistake. HOWEVER... that was an amazing dish. Every single part of the meal, from the rice, the black beans, to the small included side of guacamole and the fajita meal... wow. I ate almost everything. I couldn't stop. It was really, really good, and I would absolutely get it again. The mexican corn was flavored in a really authentic way, along with peppers, onion, tomato. I'm really impressed. Visited a Fat Cactus for the first time and I was impressed. The restaurant is located right off of Route 46 and is HUGE! After being seated, I walked around the premises and saw a large room for private events, a vast area for outdoor seating, very nice wall artistry, and even a good-sized individual room for a private meal. Shyam was an exceptional Server. He took very good care of us and contributed to an enjoyable meal. I started with a Classic Margarita and it was served in a LARGE glass. So large, that I had to hand over the car keys, afterwards. The Fat Cactus complimentary chips and salsa was AMAZING. First, the salsa had chunks of tomato, onions, and lots of basil. It was so throughly enjoyed, that we asked for a second helping, which they gladly obliged. Our selections were: Chicken Tortilla Soup (Rich chicken broth flavored with onions, tomatoes, corn, black beans, finished with a dash of cream, crispy tortilla chips, avocado, sour cream, and cheese). This soup was served in a deep bowl, had a very nice presentation, and every spoonful was flavorful. The next item was the Burrito Michoacano (Shredded chicken seasoned with authentic Mexican spices, Mexican rice, black beans, pico de gallo, cheese, and chili arbol sauce). This Burrito was huge, all of the ingredients were well seasoned, and I took some home to enjoy during the NFL playoffs. The final item was the Tamales Chicken Pastor (Homemade masa tamales, stuffed with Chicken Al Pastor, served with red enchilada sauce, and topped with creamy sour cream). Never have I been more let down by a Mexican restaurant. I should have known by the Tex-Mex that the food wasn't gonna be great but wow how horrible. NOTHING was seasoned. The salsa for the chips with salsa tasted like literal water. For my customized tacos I got carne asada, tinga and shrimp. The meat and shrimps had absolutely no seasoning. The tinga was the star of the meal. Thank goodness for the chipotle that gave it nice heat but even then a dash of salt would have helped. I even asked for their avocado crema on the side and that was just plain sour cream no salt again. I will say tho this was one of the best margaritas! That bartender knows what she's doing. I have been to this restaurant on several occasions, and tried different items in the menu. The food is delicious and the ambience is fun especially on weekend nights. They offer make your own taco options where you can customize your protein, filling and toppings with a variety of options. I wish they would offer more vegetarian options which are protien rich and macro friendly. As with most Mexican restaurants in the area, they offer 1/2 vegetarian options. read more

Went yesterday with my wife, in-laws, and daughter on a calm Wednesday evening and was blown away. The serving sizes are HUGE and everything is tasty - between the nachos, salsa, appetizer pizza and mocktails, we finished everything in record time before our entrees came out. The custom tacos were delicious, i chose the vegan meat option and was impressed. Looking back a few of those would've been enough, but we got 2 7 layer burritos, an enchilada, and another taco for the table. Few small issues, which would've had me give them a 4.5, but not an option and even though they seemed short staffed, the waitress was kind, generous, and patient. 1. every item is $15-$20, so just be ready for a ~ $150 bill minimum (and we didn't have alcohol or meat), so i imagine it would be even higher 2. Not spicy enough or the spice is just heat, no flavor - we got the ghost pepper sauce and the hot sauce they had, but it wasn't hitting. We got the habanero sauce and it ruined the taste of the food 3. Table was kind of sticky ‍ All in all, great experience and great food. Small fixes that you can live with if not fixed. read more

Had the worst dinner experience ever. Our server was not friendly or social at all. I am thinking she had difficulty understanding and speaking English. I ordered the chicken fajitas and I asked for extra sour cream and salsa. When it came out it was hardly lukewarm. The chicken was dry out. I had to try to locate her to get a plate to make my fajita. No extra sour cream or salsa. The guacamole looked as if it was half used already. I don't remember the name of what my friend ordered, but she specifically said more than once - no refried beans. Guess what!!! REFRIED BEANS loaded inside. Also ordered it with ground beef and it came with chicken. Took forever to get the server's attention. She took the plate- no apology- nothing. By this time, my dinner was cold. We had to remind the server that we still didn't get the food. Never again. I know places have off days and understand that. But this was too much. When I go to a Mexican restaurant, I expect lots of combinations and options for a variety of meals. Not here. You can have a burrito, tacos, or other Mexican standards, but not on the same plate. I ask for a couple different "tacos" ? No. You can only order 1 meat or cheese type. Almost rude like how dare you ask. I ordered queso for an appetizer. Ordered because the salsa was bland and had no flavor. Queso was basically velveta with a couple pieces of tomato and onion. Added the salsa and at least it had alittle texture. I ordered ox tail for myself thinking it's gotta be good. Was decent. Little high on salt, but taste was only reason for 3. Stars. I eat out a lot. We ordered a margarita, a coke and lemonade along with some guac to start. The marg came out fast and so did the guac. We did not see our waiter until the end of the meal. In between, we flagged someone else to help locate our waiter, asked the server who brought the guac if she could help us get our coke and lemonade and after no luck finally found a manager. He quickly brought out our coke and a glass of water that they simply squeezed lemon juice into (no sugar nothing). Service left a lot of room for improvement. Complimentary salsa had promise but had no salt, so none of the flavor popped. Impossible Fajitas- under seasoned but a generous portion. The salt was ALL in the black beans. The rice served tasted and smelled like it was microwaved from a packet- you know the smell! I don't know if they were understaffed and understocked but this was the opposite of the experience at the location near Rutgers. We never received our bill so we flagged the manager again who recognized us from the drink scenario and discounted our bill by 10% for the inconvenience. The girls and I got together to get dinner and drinks. When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. I walked in and found the girls at the bar. They had a really good happy hour special so I got a margarita on the rocks. The margarita was pretty good. I was served by Juan and he was cool. Our table was ready at 7 and Robert was our server. While we waited to order a mariachi band came over and played and they were good. We gave them a tip for their playing. For my small meal they had a make your own taco and I decided to get the blackened fish taco with ghost pepper sauce and jalapeños (big mistake). When it came out it looked good but boy was it spicy. I thought they would of put the sauce to the side but they didn't. This thing was spicy but it was good. The girls liked their meals only some complained about the double tortilla so they only ate the insides. When it was time to pay there was one issue, Robert didn't know how to spit the credit cards and cash. He wanted to charge one card. This place is right in my neighborhood so when I saw them building it I thought I would check it out when I was finished and it's finally done! Started with the empanadas which were a little too doughy for my liking, I like them a little bit more flaky. The complementary chips and salsa are delicious. The drinks were flavorful and well made, but our entrees left a lot to be desired. I got the pork belly tacos. They were tasty, but the tortillas didn't taste fresh. They had a bit of a gummy texture to them. My husband said that his chipotle burrito was bland and mostly rice inside.
