Yes, those life-threatening allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, and eggs. We waited and waited (over a decade!) for scientists to figure out a treatment for food allergies. We suffered through those years of avoidance, and fear, and frantic calls from school, and ambulances, and hospitals. Constantly living in fear that one bite of the wrong thing could end his life in moments. Then researchers at Duke and Stanford did a bunch of clinical trials and figured out a way to perform oral immunotherapy (OIT) to desensitize people to their food allergies. We were lucky to be in a 3 year Stanford clinical trial for peanut allergy a few years ago and through that study, met Whitney Block. She was our son's Nurse Practitioner at Stanford and basically oversaw his three-year clinical trial. After he finished the clinical trial for peanut, she then supervised his desensitization to ALL of his other allergens. All at one time! He was eating small amounts of those allergens within weeks of finishing his peanut clinical trial. He reached his maintenance dose for all of his allergens less than 6 months from the time we started. When we started the 3yr Stanford clinical trial, our son's goal was to eat a donut. You read that right, my 12 year old's ultimate goal in life (at age 12) was to eat a Krispy Kreme donut. He had his first Krispy Kreme donut on his 15th birthday. (insert happy tears) Through Whitney's diligence, oversight, knowledge, and kindness, he now eats a donuts wherever and whenever he wants (in moderation! - I'm still a mom!) He's almost 17 now and those years of fear are a not too distant memory. He orders in restaurants without fear and without consulting chefs on ingredients. He travels the world, and eats confidently in foreign countries where he doesn't speak the language. He goes on school experiential education trips without having to consider what they will have on the menus. This week he is leaving on a 10 day trip with a bunch of other 16 year old boys, and while I worry about other stuff with that, I don't worry about him eating! He lives his life WITHOUT FEAR of a food allergic reaction! All because of Whitney Block (and those researchers). He has a daily maintenance dose to keep up his desensitization - I watch him eat peanut, cashew, walnut, sesame, and egg EVERY DAY. It really works. It's absolutely life-changing. I cannot recommend NAC highly enough. We are so fortunate here in Los Angeles that she has recently opened an office in Burbank on Fridays. She saw the need for people in Los Angeles to receive OIT and stop living in fear and has stepped up to fill that void. We flew to Stanford for this treatment and now it's available HERE! The office staff is knowledgeable, professional and friendly. They are fantastic at reassuring parents on their fears, because let's face it, this is scary stuff. There is nothing they can't handle. Go see her. Honestly, she changed our lives.

I have never felt so listened to or cared for in my life, and not to say I frequent the doctor, but when I have been injured, it is usually a frustrating hassle to get an appointment, then a referral, then another referral, then a test, then an MRI, and so on and so forth. With Doctor Neal, it was different and refreshing from the very start. Right when I walked in, he was assessing me and even said "I don't think it's your knee, it's your calf". He took the time to know my history, asking questions that may seem irrelevant, but all to find out they were completing the puzzle to where the root of this injury came from. Yes, the initial consult takes time, but wouldn't you rather have your doctor not only treat the injury, but also the elements that may be out of balance so as not to cause this again? For me, that's a no brainer. He asked questions, actively listened, sympathized, and then got to work. I went through a THOROUGH exam and mobility test, all of which were helping him piece together where my imbalance was. He instructed, instantly found the point of issue, worked on it, and then instructed me again, at which time I was already seeing improvement. Then came the acupuncture and side bar: I f@cking hate needles. They enter the room, and suddenly every pore in my body starts releasing. He was cognizant of this fear and was encouraging the entire time. He didn't expect me to cry or emote, but be honest with how it felt so that he could ensure this first treatment was effective. It was effective and I have been back for 3 treatments total, awaiting my fourth. I no longer limp, the swelling is out of my knee, and I have about 70% of my mobility back within a week. I find that incredibly amazing, and all done with natural means and medicines. I knew going into it how much it would cost, so if cost is a concern I encourage you to be upfront so that all expectations can be managed. I would rather spend that money in one spot than to spread it out over 5 specialists and perhaps not even get the best results. Doctor Neal was honest with what he was able to do: he said that if I didn't find improvement after 3 treatments, we'd reassess. But the improvement was so vast that I couldn't imagine having this injury treated by anybody else. I am so humbly grateful I got this referral - Doctor Neal is an astute, caring, and talented healer. There is nothing to lose in calling him to see if his methods are right for your injury.

I messaged through the portal, nothing. Messaged again, got told it was sent (it wasn't, it filled only after I called and sat on hold). Then a medical device the doctor ordered never shipped. When I called about that weeks later, the explanation was that a fax must not have gone through. Then I came in for a follow-up blood test the doctor himself asked for, and could not get the results out of them for almost a month. Two portal messages, no reply. When I finally reached a human she told me the results were fine and that was that. The doctor who ordered the test never called. A pharmacy refill later sat waiting on their approval until, again, I called. Every one of those calls meant 20 or so minutes on hold. At one point the front desk had a different doctor listed in my file, which maybe explains some of it. I was eventually promised a call from the doctor about the whole pattern. The call never happened. The part that actually worried me came later: I requested my complete record and found that things he had told me in person, including a test result and his recommendation for it, were nowhere in my chart. I had to file a formal amendment request to get my own medical record to say what my own doctor said. I'll be fair where it's due, the clinical judgment itself seemed reasonable, and staff were polite whenever I got through. But polite doesn't refill a prescription or return a message. If you don't mind personally tracking every order and result and calling to make sure each one happens, you might be okay here. I moved my care elsewhere.

I had a 3:15pm appointment with Dr. Mendoza, on the 10th of this month for my yearly physical. Got there 15 minutes early and Blanca at the front desk checked me in & Silvia checked me out. Both ladies were very nice, helpful, pleasant and polite. For a physical, they don't charge you. By the time I took a seat in their waiting area, which is very clean with complimentary water (hot and cold), my name was called by Christina. She took me to room #10 to do all my vitals. This lady is just AMAZING in every way on every level. She is the sweetest, soft spoken, kind, nice, helpful medical assistant that I know of. She has seen me twice before. Did her job and left. She is also very knowledgeable & compassionate. Next up is my primary doctor, Dr. Mendoza. He goes over my chart/records and highly suggested for me to take a Pneumonia shot addressing that people over 50 are highly recommended to do so, but NOT required. So the ball was in my court. I agreed to take that shot to prevent from other illnesses in the near future. Especially, when I suffered from Shingles not too long ago. Dr.Mendoza is good. He can be a bit more thorough, he is a bit too fast and quick. However, he does know his job pretty well. I wish one day he can address me by my name. Requested 6 different types of blood work and left the office. The entire visit overall took less than an hour. Blood work normally takes 24 to 48 hours for us to get our results. Dr. Mendoza replied/emailed in less than 24 hours. Thank you for that. Christina came back to give me the shot. She was so gentle that I didn't even feel the needle in my left arm. She even asked me if I am right handed or left. Based on my answer, she did what she was supposed to do. It's a 2-story building so I went back to the 2nd floor to get my labwork done. It was easy, breezy. Kenneth, that could have been a little bit more pleasant and slap a smile on his face was not that welcoming like Rosario is. Did his job and I left. Underground parking, very steep, watch the walls not to crash or hit the wall and other cars. 2 elevators working perfectly, and they accept most credit cards, most insurance plans/payments and that's all that I know. Bathrooms are available on both floors and overall the bathrooms and facility are very clean!! This building used to be some movie/celebrity building. They have so many of black and white photos of late celebrities. Too beautiful. Don't listen or read those negative, one or two star reviews. Negative people will always stay negative. Whatever that you do for them, it's never good enough. But they still keep going back to the same restaurants, stores, hospitals, cleaners, gas stations etc.. Blanca also gave me an appointment with Dr. Cheng on 7/24 at 3:40pm. Thank you all very much! Our health is in THEIR HANDS!

I don't know what's going on, but this is not how a professional medical office should operate. The staff also seem disorganized and often don't appear to know what's going on. This is not the standard I expect from a practice affiliated with UCLA, and it's honestly embarrassing that they're associated with the UCLA name. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I genuinely can't recommend this office.
