I stopped here after lunch to grab a cup of hopefully decaf coffee. But they only have decaf for the hot drinks but I wanted something cold so instead of their usual three shots espresso I had one shot. I like how the staff was directed to the point, quick and easy to explain the ingredients. She even asked if I prefer my drinks more sweeter or more bitter to help create my drink. And I loved my drink. It came out perfectly, and I wish I have this place near my house. Unfortunately, the drawback is that I don't smoke so the cigar smell was pretty strong for me. However, since I took it to go, I was on there for a few minutes and that's all. Of course, I walked in knowing that and that's fine. It's a interesting shop. I've never seen a cigar and coffee place before it definitely looks like a place that people will just sit here and chill/talk but it's more geared towards smokers and older audience. I absolutely love this place. Always have I just wasn't aware the coffee bar closes at 3. But we actually got to sit and have a cigar instead met a couple ppl there as well. The butch-looking older lady with glasses was the one I interacted with -- no greeting, responded coldly when I asked about another brand, and not so much as a 'thank you' after my purchase. Awful. This is an adorable coffee shop where you can get some work done or just enjoy a good cup of coffee. As you enter it has a rustic contemporary vibe with tables and wicker chairs, 2 oversized leather chairs, wood ceiling, old brick walls, all types of coffee decor and coffee bean sacks behind the chairs lining the windows. Cute and comfortable with rock music playing softly in the background. Everywhere I went the place was spotless including the restroom. The barista behind the counter was very friendly and during our conversation mentioned this was his third week. He didn't seem like a newbie and was very confident and friendly. As I placed my order for a Chai Tea Latte the brownies and lemon bars screamed buy me! What could I do but take both home for my friend and I to devour later. And they did not disappoint! I really enjoyed talking to the employees and learning more about Joseph's. The Joseph family has had a business (coffee & cigars included) in this location for over a 100+ years. Impressive! And they love Richmond and Morton Street. There are several flavors of coffee and espresso, ice and blended, scrumptious scones, brownies, muffins, cinnamon rolls and lemon bars on the menu. Breakfast sandwiches (sausage rolls, ham & cheese, turkey & cheese) are available as well as lunch sandwiches. Today's sweet drink specials were the Tickled Pink Drink (white chocolate and raspberry), Beach Day Latte (caramel and sea salt) and Banana Split (banana, chocolate and strawberry). How tempting do those sound? A small cooler case has sodas, water, Bai and fruit juices available too. This coffee shop is much larger than I thought when I walked in. Good thing I'm curious or I would have missed the cigar lounge. Joseph's is two businesses under one roof. Take the large hall past the coffee shop and you'll see the humidor room, on the right, with a great selection, I'm told, of fine cigars. You can purchase cigars to go or get a one day pass or an annual membership to join Joseph's Cigar Club. This gives you access to Pop's Cigar Lounge with big, cushy leather chairs and several tables. Alcohol isn't served but BYOB is allowed for those who enjoy a glass of bourbon with their cigar. Pop's Cigar Lounge was locked when I visited this morning so I took a couple pictures through the window. The room looked extremely comfortable and there's a nice outdoor patio as well. Wonderful location for friends to meet or have a business meeting. Accessories (ashtrays, lighters, shirts, cigar cutters, humidors, etc.) are for sale and displayed in the large hall. I thoroughly enjoyed the hour I spent here today with good coffee, gooey sweets and great service. I plan on visiting again soon and most liking each time I'm in town. Why only four stars? Because I haven't tried the sandwiches yet but I will soon. read more

Stopped by for some caffeine and cigars with a friend, the caramel macchiato was great and my buddy enjoyed his iced white mocha. Spacious interior in the heart of historic Richmond. Quite impressed by the fact that they've been around since 1903, the age of the area really adds character to the place. Reasonably priced cigars, but a bit disappointed to discover the interior cigar lounge was members only. We were offered the option of a $20 dollar day pass though. There is ample room out on the patio to smoke for free though. I'll have to stop by if I find myself in Richmond again. read more

Very large really cute place. I was surprised on the number of yummy options for coffees. I ordered one of the specialty dessert drinks the Mounds frappe which is chocolate and a hint of coconuts topped with whip cream sprinkled with toasted coconuts. So creamy and just the right amount of sweetness. Better than Starbucks I gotta say although I'm not sure this frappe had coffee in it. Hubby got an iced mocha. Staff was nice. We were the only customers on Saturday 3pm. There are books, games, magazines and in the back there's a cigar room with an area to smoke it. There's also pizza, sandwiches (monte cristo! I wish that I would have reviewed Joseph's prior to this, but I never did. I would have loved to give them a glowing review. In the past, I would have given Joseph's a very enthusiastic 5 stars. It is incredibly cozy, the staff is friendly, and I've never had a food or drink that I didn't absolutely love. It always did smell faintly of cigar smoke and that was understandable. However, now that cigar smoking is taking place inside the coffee shop, I no longer enjoy the atmosphere. The smell is so overwhelming that I have had to leave several times. I have spoken to others who have mentioned the same thing. I will still go occasionally, and hopefully it will go back to the Joseph's that I once loved. read more

I have visited Joseph's several times now and it definitely get two thumbs up! There is a large selection of premium cigars with a few hard to find boutique brands and a selection of S.T. Dupont lighters that is second to none in the Houston area. All of the staff is very friendly and helpful with great coffee and tea to boot! read more

First the good stuff (because I always try to be positive) - the STAFF are SWEET people. Very helpful and are the best assets this place has. I hope they are treated well. The male owner, great gentleman! Very friendly and informative on cigars and always willing to help out. Now the bad stuff: female owner - Honey, I suggest you find a way to put up non-smoking hours for your customers because apparently I keep breaking unspoken rules you have against 1) using your outdoors patio during the day 2) buying cigars early in the day rather at night 3) actually SMOKING said cigars on your patio during the day. I looked: you have nothing posted that says I cannot do so. However, it seems I have somehow offended this woman's sensibilities because she is very cold and rude to me every time Ive come in. I second what Corey said about the place: a coffee place with a humidor that frowns deeply on smoking during certain times of the day (or you dont fulfil a certain segment of society, or something.) I was once asked to NOT come back into the building with my cigars because there were a group of ladies that were meeting at the cafe at the same time I was going to be sitting out on the side patio (which is sealed off and many yards away from where they were going to be) and enjoying the ITEMS THAT THEY SELL. I did as I was requested but apparently that wasnt good enough, despite the fact that there were NO SIGNS POSTED stating what were permissible smoking hours. What happened today pretty much spoke volumes. Today I stopped in to buy some more cigars from their humidor because they are one of the few places that still carry the little cigarillos I like to smoke. I have made it a point to come to this establishment to purchase cigars because 1) I grew up in Richmond and I remember how Joseph's used to be as a really interesting gift and furniture store in some old buildings and 2) I believe in patronizing local business. It pleases me to no end to see downtown Richmond with interesting shops and I remember being very excited when this new cafe/humidor opened up. With that ALWAYS in mind, on today's trip, I was VERY surprised to be accosted by the female owner at the same time another person was entering the humidor with "do you know what you want?" I told her no, that I wanted to look for a moment, and indicated that there was a second person that had moved into the humidor that might need her help. She gave me a cold stare with upraised eyebrows (which usually intimates a threat in primate behavior) and pursed lips - a clear sign that she just wanted me to get what I wanted and go. The one staff member with whom I have had very congenial conversations with in the past came speeding to the rescue to take over the transaction, even though I had just met with her outside in the street as she was leaving either to go home or on an errand. I can only guess that she thought that maybe something would go down. Who knows? Were it not for the fact that my family and I will be moving from the area soon, Id have joined up as a member of their cigar club. As it is, I thought I was being a good paying customer by at least buying their coffee/smoothies, pastries and a few dozen of their cigars and actually SMOKING THEM THERE. One would think having customers out on the side patio at various times of the day would be a sign of good business. Im seriously troubled by this experience and past encounters with this female owner - I guess I am just too reasonable to expect to be able to PURCHASE THEIR ITEMS FOR SALE and actually USE them in designated areas for that purpose and expect those who do not like the smell of smoke to find some other place to have their social gatherings. It boggles my mind that a patron of a cafe and cigar bar would have to accomodate these people instead of the other way around. Summary: if anyone but this one female owner is around, I say YOU WILL LOVE THIS PLACE. As I mentioned the staff ARE FANTASTIC. Very nice young women and very helpful. However, if the female owner is there, expect to be told you are inconveniencing people who don't like to smell smoke. Addendum: one more thing: DO NOT PISS OFF A WRITER. We love this place! I go in regularly for coffee while my boyfriend goes to purchase cigars. The coffee shop is in the front of the building and has a wonderful selection of coffee and treats. I typically stick to a vanilla latte, but occasionally branch out to macchiatos and other drinks. Every time they have given me wonderful service and wonderful coffee! The owner is usually present and very engaging and helpful. The cigar shop has a wonderful selection of fairly priced cigars. The staff is very knowledgeable and can recommend anything you're looking for. There is also a bargain section with cigars on sale. This place is awesome, jewel! read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in Richmond. The staff is very friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced. Each month they offer special drink ideas. The London Fog is my drink of choice. Make sure to try a roasted almond hot tea. It is very relaxing. They keep the building clean, especially the bathrooms. I'm a little sad because I'm leaving town and will miss this little coffee shop. I highly recommend Joseph's. read more

This place was great, the owners were extremely helpful and accommodating. They have a coffee shop in front which has great coffee and to the back the humidor. Great selection of cigars and accessories. My only wish was an indoor smoking area, but the deck was OK. They do have fans and in the afternoon there is a breeze, but the train can be bothersome. I was a first timer with my family after we walked a bit at the pecan festival. I fell in love with this place their customer service is the best the ladies were so sweet and helpful. As soon as we were close to the soda the lady was helpful and grabbed us cold sodas. All the ladies were so kind it was such a cozy and sweet atmosphere.
