Without so much as a glance or warning, the driver suddenly slammed the truck into reverse and gunned it backward directly toward me. He didn't check his mirrors. He didn't look. The service itself, lawn mowing itself, is okay. However, they do not know hot to keep track of their billing. I had them for about 5 years now, and within that 5 years there were about 3 times when they processed as if I missed a payment when I actually did not. I make pre-payments for each month, but I keep getting billed like I am making payments for last month, and each time they want me to e-mail them check copies to prove that I paid them. Why am I being hasseled and expected to be their accountant? I never missed a payment. Even when I had to cancel a check because my back changed the account numer once, I made a payment by Venmo plus the returned check fee, so I did not miss that payment either. What makes it even more frustrating is that it takes days for them to answer e-mails, if anyone even answers at all. I cannot remember a single time when anyone answered the phone when I call. Where do I begin? Well we lost my dad a couple years ago and trying to maintain a home alone for my mama (and me) is a task when your spouse did all the house stuff. The front yard (slight slope) needed some kind of border wall to stop the dirt from going onto the sidewalk all the time. The back slope needed a rehab and was mainly dirt. It's needed a new Irrigation system and groundcover. She decided to go with English Ivy which Jose suggested for its root system to keep the slope strong. His quote was fair but his knowledge was worth the job. Every single step he stated he would do on each day he was so on target. When quoted us a month before he started he said it would take 5 days and that is exactly how long it took. He was very organized and his crew was extremely clean in the process. We are hoping the English Ivy will do it's job but only time will tell and I will update on that here at a later date. He suggested a wi-fi sprinkler timer which has been heavenly so I can control it from whereever I am for her. It even has a smart watering feature and will do an auto delay depending on what's in the forecast like rain. I feel like my pops guided us to find Jose who truly did a job well done and was so very kind. Extremely dependable and PUNCTUAL EVERY TIME which is huge in my book. I sent a message on Yelp and Jose was actually able to come out the same day, like literally within an hour, to take a look at things and give an estimate. I recently moved to La Mirada, from a townhome in Anaheim - in Anaheim, I never had to think about my lawn because I didn't have one and the HOA took care of landscaping in our area. I don't normally post lots of reviews or bad ones at that but I think potential customers would like to know some issues I have encountered with Jose's service, which I had for a long time. At first they did a decent job and I tended to accept/look the other way when I noticed incompleteness. Issues follow: 1. There have been numerous broken sprinklers & while Jose has personally repaired some of them, one time he blew me off on a broken sprinkler and I had to replace myself. I only found it because I noticed gushing water one day. That was the last straw for me and I let him go shortly after this incident (note current Gardner has been with me almost two years and has yet to break a single sprinkler). The problem is his people rush through the lawn and are looking to get out quickly, which leads to mistakes. What is especially frustrating is that for one pipe they broke half of it and didn't bother to say anything about it - makes me wonder if Jose docs pay from these guys & that is why they don't report the issue right away. I wasted lots of water that probably cost me 20 bucks not to mention replacing the head that cost me around 10 (plus time). 2. As I noted above his people rush to get out as soon as possible. I actually stayed home one time and timed them at about 7-8 min. Given the numerous broken sprinklers as well as general lack of maintenance on other plants around home (bushes etc), the rush job was evident. 3. My wife would constantly complain to me about the lack of maintenance for non-grass and I would have to contact Jose more than I remember. I personally don't like contacting gardeners because I know that overall it's hard work for low pay, but it seems like Jose failed to meet a reasonable level of work. 4. On occasion, the gardeners would miss a week and yet I would pay for the full month. This was rare during beginning (if ever) and more evident towards the end. I can't say it was a high percentage of visits but enough that I noticed. 5 Jose increased the price on me when I believe I was paying a reasonable/fair price. To be fair he increased the price for every customer, but I have never encountered this with other Gardner's especially in such a good economy. My guess is his costs were so high that he did some math and figured he needed to increase rates such amount to pay bills. That's fine but Garden services have a market value and when you go over that rate, people look elsewhere. He also wanted to be paid in advance of services, something else that other gardeners don't do - usually you get paid after u complete work not up front. Overall I was very disappointed in Jose's incomplete and rushed services and gave them many months to improve. I hope he takes this constructive feedback to heart and improves his services or I think he will lose lots of customers like me. My advice to you is simple, please work on people's lawn like if it was your own, do a complete job and leave the grounds beautiful every week, and if you break sprinklers, inform the owner & fix them. After using this service for a while, the quality has gone way down hill. The original agreement was for lawn care and complete landscape (shrubs, etc) maintenance weekly. They did the lawn care, but slowly stopped the landscaping care each week until It got to the point where the landscape wasn't touched for weeks. When I tried to get someone out to take care of the landscape, they made excuses about why they couldn't do it this week, "but we'll do it next week." Only to not have it happen. We were looking to re-do the back yard at our son's house in Whittier and called Jose for a quote. He came out and we told him what we were looking to have done and along with some other ideas that he presented, we knew that Jose was the right choice to go with. Jose and crew removed all the dead grass and weeds, leveled the ground area, created a walkway using gravel rocks, installed new sprinklers and sod, along with a drip system in the planter beds and installed a wi-fi timer that can be controlled from your phone. They also brought in a mixture of dirt and soil to fill in 3 vegetable gardens. Two new water faucets were also installed for better access.
