A delightful experience. This cozy spot is tucked in a hole in the wall just minutes from the Bal Harbour Shops. My mom and I stopped in on a rainy morning and were immediately seated at the bar. Seeing as it was a front row seat to be able to watch the chef work his magic, I was not upset. Here I had the best corned beef hash I think I've ever had. The coleslaw was out of this world. And make sure to ask for jelly - Josh makes his own and it's a mix of mango and mamey. Unexpected and GOOD. If I lived anywhere near here, I'd be an instant regular. It's perfectly cozy and the smell that you get to enjoy when he's making his rye bread from scratch - second to none. I HIGHLY recommend, and will hopefully be back. read more

Despite all the recent bad reviews, we decided to try the pastrami. While the comparisons to Katz's and other famous delis are not appropriate, Josh has a good sandwich with the right amount of juiciness. The bread was toasted well. However the portion is small, the price is high ($28 as of 2026) and they put an automatic tip even with minimal service. Come if your not able to get good pastrami but not worth coming otherwise. read more

I can't understand how this restaurant is Michelin rated!!! Worst meal I've had during my stay in Miami. We ordered latkes, a Jewban and a Reuben. Half of the items on the menu were not even available. Not even French fries! No soups, no potato salad and no appetizers. Reuben came with no sauerkraut and when we told the waitress she went to get some and we heard the cook yell at her and say it didn't come on the jewban...it was missing from the Reuben! $87 for two sandwiches and a latke order. I used to visit Josh's Deli many times over the years. You would walk in and Josh (you know, the guy the place is named after) would personally greet you from the bar, with a bow, where he is making the food. They used to have seats at the bar, a pleasant space you'd actually want to sit and have conversation. You would then order, if you wanted, what was probably some of the best Jewish deli sandwiches you could find in Florida. I don't know what on Earth happened from his tenure to today, but the difference is night and day. The prices went drastically up. The quality went way down. The service was arrogant. The food was anywhere from mediocre to poor. They don't even serve the sandwich with the fries anymore, but to be honest, I'm not sure I'd even want them regardless. There were three flies hovering around. They were the only things that would've enjoyed the sad hollow shell of what used to be a great deli. Only this obnoxiously overpriced slop remains. $77 for two sandwiches and a Sprite Zero, with automatic gratuity. Do not go here. read more

Welp, I've been a resident of Surfside for 13 years. Josh's Deli was awesome. Always packed. Today, I ordered the Surfside Breakfast. It states 3 eggs any style blah, blah, blah. Then vegetables, mushrooms, onions $3. The server told us we had to have it scrambled, he can't put vegetables on the side. I said, "It says any style." He was obnoxious so we left. Now, I know why it was empty at noon. We went next door to The Carrot (packed) and it was great. Hahahaha. You won't see me there ever again. read more

So the service, to start, was, atrocious. The waitress disappeared for 20 minutes without taking our order. She spent that time helping a walk in order 6 inches from us, telling us 2 minutes. Each time. Over and over. Instead of just asking 5he other lady to wait 6 seconds as she kept doing to us. The food was OK. Obviously you expect it to be pricey, which it was. French toast was excellent, they added a crunch to the outside. Both the turkey and beef bacon on the Jewban (clever idea) was dry beyond word. Servings average-to-large and food quality average-to-good but didn't make up for the double whammy of expensive and terrible service. May be better as takeout. And they forced an 18% service charge on our party of 5. And as a cherry on the turd sundae of this experience, their card reader was down and I haven't carried cash on me since 2007. One of my worst dining out experiences ever, and was pretty bad even before the payment issue, which may or may not have been their fault. read more

Did the original owner, Josh Marcus overwork himself at his small deli in Surside? Most likely. Did transitioning to a Glatt Kosher restaurant benefit the overwhelmingly Kosher community in Surfside? Most likely. Did turning over his restaurant to new partners make his restaurant better? Unequivocally NO!!! It's unclear if he sold his restaurant or is still a partner. Nobody seemed to eager to answer my questions. I used to recommend Josh's Deli to friends and family visiting from out of town, looking for good Deli food with a twist. Everything was made in-house and was 100% amazing. I just paid over $30 for a Pastrami on Rye and it was mediocre at best. It was not made in-house (although they said it was) I can tell prepackaged Pastrami from Josh's Pastrami. This might be fine for the bland food-loving Glatt Kosher community. But the empty tables during lunch hour speak volumes. I hope Josh Marcus opens a non-Kosher Deli soon! The service was weird. It lost the ambiance from when Josh used to prepare everything while great music was playing. #Bummer read more

I want to know why there isn't a line out the door for this incredible pastrami sandwich! What an absolute gem. We ordered the Ginsberg, which had the most perfect thin pastrami with caramelized onion. An incredible bite!! We also enjoyed the veggie sandwich, with delicious caponata and the jewbanize, which combined pastrami and pork. So good! Also great pickles! We also ordered the granola Greek yogurt (loved the peanut butter chips!) and the chocolate pancake. And since we were there for brunch, we had to order coffee. The cold brew tasted like a chocolate shake somehow. Obsessed! Service was great. Josh himself is back there making orders! And the cafe is small but a cool vibe. I already can't wait to go back! Is the bar in front of Josh cooking my favorite place to be in Miami? It very well might be. This time it was a gloomy Sunday at noon and I walked in to get some pastrami hash followed by a massive order of deep fried, then baked french toast (no picture, sorry - was too busy eating). The personal spin he puts on all his dishes is always a great addition to what would otherwise be simple deli classics. Watching him get those monster pancakes to perfection from the stove to the oven, spinning them, flipping them, pushing them, padding them...he doesn't take his eye off them from batter to stack. He elevates the flavor or the texture to let you know this came out of his amazing creativity. It shows passion and dedication and a true love for his place and what he offers the community. I used to come here frequently to eat the what I thought was the best Rueben sandwich in south Fl . I came here after a couple years of not visiting and was completely shocked of how bad the Rueben was compared to before . Not only that, but the price had more than doubled. Parking challengineg in this entire area but, keep looking, you will find a lot. Our visit was on Monday at noon. We were given a choice of sitting inside or out, and we chose outside on the sidewalk. She had the Pero salad with added Turkey. I had the smoked and spiced pastrami on Rye with Cole Slaw and a smoothie mango with milk as the base. They brought a bottle of water to the table. For us, this is always a plus as I drink a fair amount of water with a meal. Her salad was delicious and full of fresh ingredients and flavor. My Pastrami sandich was just as I love them. The meat was tender, seasoned perectly and very tasty, the bread fresh and toasted rye with a special sea horse sauce and a side of cole slaw. This was a tasty sandwich and side. The mango smoothie was also tasty. However, using milk as a base made it a bit heavy for lunch, in my opinion. It was tasty nonethless. This was a very nice lunch place. read more

I was brought here by a friend excited by her "discovery." Unassuming from outside, equally so inside. Small, but not claustrophobic. Most of the space is kitchen. Only about 16-18 seats inside. Perhaps the same number outside. Be prepared to become friends with other guests, you're never far away and certainly within earshot of their conversations. This is NOT a criticism, it's an amused observation. Brunch or lunch, the menu is eclectic deli and diner fare. But, don't be fooled by what appears to be a small menu, the variations on options creates opportunities to appeal to anyone. Tuna latkes? Omelettes with the funkiest combination offers; hashes of meats or seafoods, numerous untraditional offerings. Pancakes or French toast with savory sweet combinations of various chocolates, berries, or fruits. Drink options are equally odd and oddly unusual. Service is prompt and professional with a sense of humor. Food is served immediately, fresh and hot - nothing sitting under heat lamps waiting for runners. I was taking photos as plates arrived. First of the well composed salmon platter and side of fries. But, in my eating excitement, I overlooked a photo of my 1/2 order blueberry and banana pancakes with 2 eggs and a side of bacon. Plates are art. Food is delicious. A bit of sticker shock at the check. I didn't get to scrutinize but I suspect my companion's mimosa made an independent dent. Total was almost $70 for 2 people (including a healthy tip). All in all, a good morning stop. Not a 4, not a 5. 4.5 stars is fair. But, I'd certainly return. read more

For an extra $2 you can get fries with your order. As for taste... AMAZING! We had the Olli n Xavi and the Jewbanize. The deli meats were so tender and juicy. One of our favorite hidden gems in Miami. A bright shining star in Surfside. It's always a new experience every time we go back. And Josh is just such a joy. An incredibly hospitable human and a next level chef. The best places to eat are the ones with a paper sign on the door. We had the smoked mushroom frittata. He gives it a a wild twist by infusing it with a tasty umami something-something. And he uses oyster mushrooms as his choice for shroom. Dope. And I don't use the word "dope" lightly. The Tuna latkes are always a must for us. They are crunch and just sooo good. Tuna is great quality dressed with finely chopped seaweed. The focaccia is perfect in taste, texture and portion. The salmon tzatziki is an interesting, light and refreshing take on the dish. It's great starter using the perfect bread to spread it on. It's perfectly balanced using salmon roe to give another dimension of literal pop. We ordered a 1/2 order the "Pancake", and I'm glad we did because we would have needed a forklift to get out of there. It is an ambitious portion that even Joey Chestnut would question. The pancake is the perfect texture with wonderful flavor before adding any syrup. Pretty sure that syrup is homemade too b/c it definitely didn't taste store bought. The chocolate chips were cooked into the batter the way they should be, and of course with bananas as Jack Johnson recommends. Overall another wonderful experience at our favorite "deli". If you can make your way to Surfside be sure to stop here to have an unexpectedly wonderful and personal dining experience. read more
