They have a huge selection of suits and honestly without assistance we would have been overwhelmed. The store always very busy but the staff did a great job of balancing giving us attention and giving us space. They helped him choose a beautiful Italian wool navy suit that he could wear to the weddings and a dark green suit (I never would have thought he could pull of that color) for the less formal events. I recently took my three brothers, who were visiting from out of state, to Studio Nova. The four of us went there that day to let the new owner know of my husband's passing. My brothers were prepared to do some big time shopping, as Studio Nova was his favorite. Unfortunately, our experience was ruined the moment we walked in. The person attending the store at the time identified himself as the new owner's father. Instead of greeting us with kindness and professionalism, we were met with suspicion and blatant disrespect. When my brother tried to explain the connection between himself, my late husband and the previous owner, the father cut him off and made it clear that he was not interested in hearing the story. Then he said "Why don't y'all look around since I have your Black asses on camera anyway." He turned to another one of my brothers and said "you look suspicious." When my brother mentioned he was from California, the father said "Don't tell anyone that."  We were shocked! We were prepared to spend money, but after being insulted repeatedly, we chose to leave. The father's tone was hostile, dismissive, and completely inappropriate. For context, all three of my brothers are professionals, well-dressed, retired veterans, respectful, and accomplished men. No one should be treated this way. As the only woman present, I felt especially disrespected. My brothers were embarrassed for me, and we were all hurt by the way we were treated. We came to honor a connection to the store and instead left feeling degraded and unwelcome. When we got in the car, there was silence and disbelief. To the owner: My purpose of writing this post is make you aware of our experience at your store. We hope this treatment does not reflect your OWN values or how YOU intend for Studio Nova to operate. If you continue allowing your father to represent your business in your absence, you risk losing customers and damaging your reputation. We will not return, nor will we recommend this business to anyone. Walking in, this place is full of all different kinds of men's formal apparel. I saw a bunch of "loud" color and style suits and really wanted to buy one of those too! Out of my price range at the time though and not why I was there! I got measured pretty quick, given some rough estimate sizes to put on and they were pretty spot on. Just needed to get the pants tailored up a bit and my jacket sleeves brought up a touch. Conveniently next door, there's a tailor and a dry cleaner. At Bridal Expos and online, you usually get bombarded with the chain Menswear places to do your business with for your wedding day (like I did). The styles at these places were bland and I wanted something different. I stumbled upon Sam Michael's and from my first visit (of probably 5 or 6 in total), I was hooked! Walking in here for the first time, I didn't know what to expected. I explained that I was getting married, and 8 groomsmen and 2 parents that needed suits. I was sat down and shown all of my different rental options, which included suits, tuxes, pants, ties, shoes and other accessories. So many decisions, but I was granted the ability to stay there and think carefully, but also explained to that I can change it as many times as I want up to a month or so before the wedding date. Attached are some pictures of the suit I picked for myself and my groomsmen. It was a brand new suit in their inventory that they personally owned, as well as the color choice for my accents (pocket square and tie). Michael and team were very professional through the entire process. We had multiple texts and phone calls back and forth during my moving of our wedding date as well as when my accent color was discontinued. After the wedding was all said and done, I was granted a $500 shopping spree on a suit set of my choice. That was really exciting and I got a nice blue, checkered patterned suit. Initially the suit was advertised to me as "slightly more expensive" but better quality and service than competitors. After we allocated our wedding finances after we got married, at Sam Michael's, I actually spent LESS than what I budgeted and LESS than a competitor I was initially going to go with. Totally worth it here! Thank you Mike and team for everything! I felt like family every time I walked in. No errors or resizing for any of us during our pick ups.

It's a fun store to take a gander on new shirts on the back walls. It's a great place to pick up gift items for friends or family that love the D as much as you. I love taking these tried and true items on any trips to layer and proudly represent. Most people in the world know Detroit for the most part. I like to help pass the knowledge to the people wherever I am in the world. Prices are reasonable, usually $26+ for most of the nicer t-shirts and $35+ for the thinner retro sweat-shirts. The retro styles tend to be more. Get the soft fabric items, they wear so much better than the more coarse cotton and unwashed items.
