Birria tacos are fire, highly recommend with Coca-Cola and chips. Salsa is crazy, staff is friendly, quick and easy. Plus the ambiance is authentic. Try this place!

Visited this place as it's from the same owner as the Jose's at Cambridge that recently closed. We loved it there. This is not up to the mark. They don't have margaritas too. The food was very average.

Barely 6". But at least I don't have to feel guilty for throwing it out.

Look let assess the elephant in the room. I expect a language barrier especially if I am expecting "authentic" Mexican food. This was beyond language barrier we are talking *disclaimer not racist just using a very accurate stereotype know across the us" you would get better counter help had he picked up a guy at Home Depot. The person working the counter wasn't familiar with the menu whatsoever but I can read so that's a plus. I placed my order he printed it out and put the slip up for the food prep guy. Nonetheless he still had to translate the entire order which was a small burrito nothing extravagant. While we are on the topic of small burritos i honestly thought it was either a joke or a mistake. It's only slight larger than a Twinkie. The 5 for $1 l red hot beef burritos at the super market are an honest size comparison. I frequent many burrito spots in the area and they should even be allowed to advertise these as burritos. I figure for $10sm and $12 large there couldn't be much difference and I like to try something new first before buying the biggest or most expensive version! At this point I haven't even eaten it yet. The $l0 Burrito came out to $13.33. I had a $20 bill and handed the counter perso. .35cents. He replied the $20 was enough. I actually thought ok he's just gonna call it $13 so I can get my $7 and not a pocket full of change. Nope. He started reaching for the change till and I said that's why I was giving you the change so I did t have to get change back. This thoroughly confused him and I had to explain how $20-13=7. I can't wait to post a picture for you and let you know how the flavor is. I have to admit I'm very intrigued because their lack of basic street food acumen is lacking they may be geniuses in the kitchen I'll let you know UPDATE This is by far the most offensive depiction of a burrito I've ever encountered. Anyone that praises the food here obviously has never eaten at another Mexican spot. The meat advertised as steak was stringy and grainy. Frozen, possibly inexpensive meat not made for human consumption. There is no seasoning on the steak. Tbere was no sour cream and I'd be hard pressed to acknowledge "normal level of cheese nevermind extra cheese" If you have an odd compulsion to know what a can of Alpo dog food would taste like with lower than average Mexican rice and pico de Gallo made from mostly diced tomatoes with a couple pieces of onion and a glimpse of what I believe to be a green pepper. Zero flavor and disturbing texture. One bite was enough m! Also I had always been told about taco Tuesday's which I believe is buy one taco and get one. They are t listed on the menu as an option and the signs I'd seen before were missing. So a $10 small dogfood wrap ended up as $13.33 out the door. I'm actually happy I didn't eat it there because I'm not sure I'd be able to contain my contempt for them trying to pas this off as authentic Mexican. Food. I truly would have felt better ordering from a street cart than here. Buyer beware of

Half of my gigante chimichanga. Loved every bite, so did my kid. Also had freshly made horchata and enjoyed Air conditioning. :-)

Excuse me as this is my first review on yelp since moving from San Francisco. ! me encanta esta deliciosa comida! So stoked to have come back to Jose's Torta Mexicana! We beat the heat and stepped in for dinner on a Thursday. We had a chimichanga y flautas. So good!! We are originally from California and it's Hard to find good Mexican Food in MA, let alone Arlington. This is one of our favorites and we I'll be back again for brunch (11 am everyday). The music is nice too :-)! Ps prepare for your kids to eat all of their food and maybe yours. A bonus is they ask how spicy you want your food, this helps with kids a lot! If it's busy grab it to go and eat across the street at picnic tables at James Russell House on Mass Ave.

    Chicken burrito

I enjoyed eating the chicken burrito I ordered today. The staff is very friendly! There are table where can enjoy your meal or you can take home with you.

Enchiladas are so yummy! Had the mole enchiladas with chorizo. Added beans and rice for $2. Like how there are different filling choices. Food was delicious. You order at the counter and bus your own table. There's a long counter against the window with seating and also a few chairs. Will definitely be back! We found an easy spot on the street to park, and there was room for our stroller inside.

I thought the ground beef chimichanga was delicious. My husband didn't love the one he got. It's a cute little place. Not horribly priced. Good location. I would go back and get the same thing. As much as I would like to go back and try something else I really liked the chimi I had.

Really tasty!!! Clean delivery. Package was sealed. Love the flavor - very fresh :) one star less for a relatively small portion compared to other places nearby. But flavor is great! Thank you!

We haven't gone to dinner here since shortly after moving to Arlington. The interior is exactly how I remember it. Mexican inspired. Yellow, red, green, and white. There are TVs on the walls showing sports. The food is pretty typical for Americanized Mexican food, EXCEPT the flan. Holy moly the flan is good. I could eat it all day, but I would probably get type two diabetes. None of the food we ordered was spicy. The endless amounts of chips that they bring out with carafes of salsa for the table are freshly fried. We all ate way too many of them. The portions at this place are generous. Much too big for the tweens I was eating with. The one dish we ordered that was not huge was the brownie sundae. Our server was nice as were the bus-woman and food runner. The food came out super fast after we ordered it. My one suggestion would be to make the menu more elaborate. None of the dishes are described. You don't know what sides are coming with them or what ingredients or filling options there are. I asked a lot of questions. (I imagine this makes the servers jobs kind of annoying.)

The business is sort of in a house? It was small and kind of dark inside. It was definitely an interesting experience,,, The appetizer was reallyyy good, I forgot the name though... The mole however, was not very good. The mole was liquidy and the chicken was dry. Overall, I think this place is more for fun busy nights where you just drink and apps. We started off with two drinks- a frozen mangonada and this passion fruit drink. They were both solid but I liked the mangonada better because the passion fruit cocktail had too much pulp in it! For food, we started off with chips and guac. This guac was some of the best I've had. It was super fresh and you could tell exactly what ingredients they used. We also their pork ribs! The ribs fell off the bone and I loved the warm sauce except it was a tiny bit dry. The sauce was reminiscent of an umami bbq sauce. We decided to try their zucchini dish, as recommended by the manager! I don't love zucchini usually but I liked it. It was roasted with cheese, sauces, and some shrimp. Very creative, Lastly we got the tuna ceviche of the day. I didn't really like this because it was really heavy on the dill. I think it would've been good without it. However the presentation was gorgeous and it came with plantains. Overall the vibes are superb here for a date, girls night, or whatever!!

We are not that far from Medford and it took over 45 minutes to get there (traffic was crazy!) and we were running late. I called and they were super nice and said they could hold the table for 10 minutes (we were running 5 minutes behind our reservation) and not to stress out. When we got there, they were hopping! I am sure they get a lot of pre-show people because before I could even say we had to be out of there by 7, she asked if we were going to the show and assured us we would be out way before then. My hubby and decided to go the tapas route (which is basically the majority of their menu) and it was AWESOME! We started with the Queso Fundido. I am not a chirozo fan but the hubby is so I thought I would give it a try. It worked very well with the cheese and did not over power it. We moved on to the Cheviche Amarillo, Plantano Macho stuffed with beef, and Pollo Mole. All were perfect and just the right amount of food. I think my favorite was the Cheviche which was a white fish with sweet potato. The "sauce" was a citrusy topping and so light - did not detract from other flavors. Really all three were delicious. We also tried the flan because it looked so good coming out. Fair warning that I am not a flan person but it looked so yummy. Again, it was better than I have had but still not a fan - hubby on the other had devoured it with pleasure. It is a great location as well, and the space was very cheery, clean and despite being super busy we were not on top of each other - super worth the trip!

I got the margarita de la casa with salt, it was your classic margarita, but I liked it. Smaller size. For food, we started with the tamal with pork mole, which was really tasty, and fresh. Only one per order though, at $12 a piece. The size wasn't huge either. I then ordered the arroz del mar. It was creamy rice mixed with calamari, shrimp, and octopus. I was expecting more of a cream sauce but it was more like a watery broth, with a kick. It was spicy but tolerable. I liked the flavors but it didn't hit my craving. My boyfriend got the pollo con mole which he liked but I don't think he was crazy about it. I was still hungry so we ordered the plantano macho with beef. This stuffed plantain was good, I liked the cheese on it. But again, small size.. I will say I didn't know it was tapas style until we overheard the waitress tell another table. It makes sense in hindsight but we were quite hungry and this might have deterred us from coming. Portions were small even for tapas style. I saw a group and I'm not sure how they managed without ordering a surplus of food. I overheard them order at least 7 tacos...one per order... Strong flavors and fresh ingredients, I would say that. I think this is an elevated experience for food and it was a pleasant experience, but I wouldn't rush back because I don't think the portions were worth it even for tapas style.
