Our bill was $160 for fries, salmon tiraditos, steak frites (42), seafood coconut rice, lemonade (5, maker have forgotten to mix in sugar so we just had lemon juice?), and the 7 reasons old fashioned (19). My steak was actually pretty good. The seafood coconut rice however was undercooked, we didn't get our dishes until almost an hour after ordering so maybe they had kitchen issues. It took so long we just ate the raw rice with seafood because we ain't waiting another hour. The seafood was very good. The regular old fashioned is better than the 7 reasons old fashioned. Imo they need to get block ice, this is made with regular cubes which melts very fast and gets watery. Best dish for me was the steak, it was very nicely seared. Who is posting the positive reviews? This place evokes sadness, not joy. Most importantly, don't come here to celebrate a special occasion. It was a severe let down on all fronts. I liked Seven Reasons (at its original location) so I decided to check this out with my husband on a Saturday night. Reservations were easy to get. The place itself is fine in terms of decor. Not high end but not bad. The women's restroom has two stalls that don't indicate whether someone is in there and they're heavy doors, which makes for a potentially awkward experience with you knocking and trying to ram down the door, just to find out no one is in there. But I digress... The food is sh*t, plain and simple. The ceviche is more like raw poke that's unseasoned. The prawns taste like they were sauced in baby food. What I thought would be the hero - the branzino- had weird and misplaced (in terms of taste) dollops of sweet pineapple, it was underseasoned (honestly, unseasoned), and there was a bed of greens (salad mix and herbs, many of which were wilted) on the side. Let me be clear: the food wasn't mediocre; it was bad. Highway robbery. A disgrace. An abomination. Even the drinks were bad. Their take on a gin and tonic is akin to spraying perfume in your mouth and then chasing it with flowers. One of the hosts tried to sell us on a bottle of white wine from Uruguay. We asked to try it and it was worse than 5 buck chuck from Trader Joe's. We passed. And service at other restaurants in the area is better, so I can't even give them high marks for that. A group of friends and I came here for dinner to celebrate a friends birthday and we had one of the best dining experiences. We booked for Summer RW but ended up ordering from their non restaurant week and was highly pleased. The service and the food were memorable. The four of us ordered appetizers, emtrees and dessert to share which allowed us to try more of the menu. For appetizers we got the bay scallops which are a MUST, oysters and the burrata and hummus. For entree we ordered the branzino tacos, Caribbean seafood coconut rice and the joy prawns. All three were superb. For dessert we shared the Bati Bati which is Ube soft serve and honeycomb crisps and the chocolate lava cake. We did also ordered drinks which were Mango whiskey sour and Old fashioned. My friend and I decided to have brunch at Joy before heading to a play that afternoon and we were absolutely delighted! The food and the beautiful decor stood out. It reminded me of it's sister restaurant, Imperfecto in DC, which I also love. Here are my takeaways: Environment We visited Joy for an early Saturday brunch and were surprised by how quiet it was - there were only two or three other parties there. We had reservations, but honestly, you probably don't need them at that time. I imagine it gets busier later in the morning or afternoon. The space is gorgeous and airy, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant opens up to the outdoor area, which would be perfect on a nice day. Service The service was excellent. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. He guided us through the menu with great suggestions, and the food came out quickly. Everything about the dining experience felt smooth and enjoyable. Food The food was great! The standout for me was the arepa croquettes--so flavorful and delicious. You get two short rib and two cheese croquettes, and honestly, all of them hit the spot. I also had the Joy Benedict, which I really enjoyed and would definitely order again. My friend had the chicken and waffles and loved it too. There are so many other items on the menu that I'm excited to try when I return. Overall Joy by Seven Reasons is truly a gem! From the tasty food and good drinks to the welcoming atmosphere, it has so much to offer. I dined at Joy by Seven Reasons for dinner and was very impressed with the whole experience. From the decor to the service which was exceptional to the food, of course. We started with beef carpaccio and red snapper ceviche both beautifully plated and tasted so good. For dinner we had Lamb Ragu and a seafood medley dish with coconut rice. Lamb Ragu homemade ribbon-like pasta with lamb was so delicious. Seafood medley dish with grilled calamari, shrimp was delicious as well. Both dishes were beautifully plated. Dessert was amazing and sublime. Service was so professional and very friendly. Luis provided us with such warmth and detail in explaining each dish served and it's wonderful ingredients which further added to the dining experience. We even got to speak with head chef towards the end of our dining at Joy by Seven Reasons. I thanked him for such wonderful culinary creations and He welcomed us. I highly recommend Joy by Seven Reasons for a wonderful dining experience through and through. Also to note, I learned from Luis that owner, Michelin Star chef has several other restaurants in DC VA area which we plan to visit in the future. I have eaten at Joy by Seven Reasons multiple times. I hope to go again. From what I have seen, they are not attracting as many diners as they deserve. I'd like to help remedy that: this is an excellent restaurant. I am guessing the location is a bit too out of the way for people in the city proper and the food maybe a bit too adventuresome for a suburban crowd. It is Latin American, and the name of the place is explained by the more upscale downtown location, Seven Reasons, which has been rated among the best establishments in the area, a destination (my wife and I have not been there, and I feel I need to try it though to be honest this venue is so convenient I am in no rush). The signature dish is that rib sandwich, as in short rib. We went with my niece and her husband (my wife and I, so two couples). Three of us split the sandwich, which comes with fries and is presented with the bone on the plate, for show. It is the signature dish. If you eat meat, it is worth it. The Washingtonian magazine called it the most expensive sandwich around, a fancy McRib. That is fair. But it is better than that. It is an excellent meal. The meat, if you consume animal protein, is high quality, and it is plentiful. I cannot imagine eating it alone. Nor would I eat it as a sandwich -- you need fork and knife. We also had corn pancakes and the fish special, a whole branzino. All of it was enjoyed. We had the tiniest bit of fish to take home. The servers were considerate. They allow dogs on the patio. There are no complaints whatsoever. You should be aware it is not casual but fine dining. read more

If you know what to order, Joy by Seven Reasons makes for a joy-filled date night. My wife and I went on a Saturday evening in June at 8 p.m. We had a reservation, but sadly, we didn't need it. There were only a few tables filled in the large space. Here's our experience. 1) Food: The menu is very appealing with many Venezuelan-influenced dishes. Both of us relatively hungry, we ordered the ceviche, "Purple Bites Burrata," Peri-Peri Cauliflower, Tomate A Caballo, and the short rib sandwich. It was more than enough and somehow we had room for dessert of coconut flan and the chocolate fondant. What stood out were the short rib sandwich and the coconut flan. Both were unique with bold, yet inviting flavors. We'd return for both. Everything else was presented well and creative, but didn't have as much flavor. Most of the other dishes we felt needed more salt to make the flavors stand out more. 2) Drinks: We loved our cocktails! If you enjoy sweeter drinks, order the Jungle Mule. It's refreshing! My wife enjoyed their version of an Old Fashioned. 3) Service: It was attentive and helpful. When, you share a name with this restaurant, then you just have to try it. I have been dying to try "Joy" by Seven Reasons and today I found my partner in crime, to take a foodie adventure with me. It is beautifully decorated in bright colors with swirls of pattens on the walls, hanging colorful decor, and a beautiful bar area. We were greeted warmly and welcomed to the restaurant. That kind of service goes a long way with me. It warms your heart and brightens your day. Service was great. Our waiter was there when we needed him and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our meal. After Tom Sietzma did his food review on Joy by Seven Reasons, I was craving the Colossal Short Rib sandwich. I was thinking that it would fun to share with a friend and at $65.00, and it would be a bit more reasonable. So, we ordered the sandwich,gloved up, and got ready for the challenge. The French fries were delicious. They were crunchy, crisp, and hot out of the fryer. We really enjoyed them. The sandwich itself was just okay. It was definitely short ribs, but the meat was very fatty. The sauce was good and the ciabatta bread was excellent. I didn't think the size of the sandwich was as huge or as described "Colossal"! It was the size of a large sub. But, the price tag was most definitely"Colossal! " We did order the cocanut flan with pina colada sauce and cream whip. That was outstanding and we scooped every bit of goodness from the plate. The sauce really tasted like a pina colada. The flan was light, airy, and filled with coconut flavor. It was a winner. Maybe we ordered the wrong menu item? But, the sandwich, was just okay. The place is beautiful and the service was excellent. The dessert was fabulous. I recently went with a friend for my second time for a weeknight dinner and Joy by Seven Reasons more than made up for what could have been better service my first time dining there. I really appreciate Joy by Seven Reasons reaching out to me and going above and beyond in providing a great return-a phenomenal example of top-notch customer service. It was an outstanding experience start to finish, with amazing service, great ambiance, and every dish being incredible. My friend and I arrived early for our reservation and were seated immediately on the patio. The ambiance is nice-lots of Latin American decorations, a large, wood-paneled bar, good lighting, and good music. This time around, the music was played at a perfect volume and there were some great choices with the cover songs. Our server was great-taking our orders in a timely manner, checking up on my friend and I, and ensuring that the food came out in a well-paced manner. Our server also was able to make a couple of alterations to the dishes we ordered. My friend and I shared four dishes plus dessert and the food was incredible with beautiful presentation. We got pescatarian-friendly dishes and Joy by Seven Reasons was helpful in making accommodations for a couple of dishes. My friend and I split the following dishes a la carte: Salmon Tiradito: A well-balanced, complementary dish. The salmon was fresh and perfectly salted, the fried quinoa provided a nice crunch, and the mango puree provided enough sweetness to counter-balance the salt of the soya mix. Purple Bites Burrata: A delicious blend of many components-sweet, salty, crunchy, creamy, spicy, and smoky that went perfectly together. In particular, I loved the unusual ash component, the creamy burrata, the crunchiness of the phyllo dough, and the spicy red pepper. Joy Tlayuda: Another outstanding dish. The blue corn tortilla provided an amazing, flavorful base, while the other ingredients provided a well-balanced mix of creamy, salty, and spicy. The salsa verde on the side provided the perfect amount of heat. Branzino Al Pastor Tacos: A fantastic dish-the branzino was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender, the sauce was delicious, the salad provided a fresh element, Joy by Seven Reasons provided a side of sauce (which was very welcome) and the blue corn tortillas were flavorful and warm. I wish there had been two more tortillas but otherwise outstanding. Bati-Bati: The star dish of the night. Besides how unique it was, the ube soft-serve was rich and creamy, the waffle pieces added amazing crunch, the caramel and peanuts provided an excellent, mild salty contrast that brought out the flavors of the rest of the dish, and the toffee and honeycomb gave the right notes of sweetness. Joy by Seven Reasons is pricey-without drinks, expect to pay at least $50-$60 per person-main dishes run $30-$45; however, well worth it for a celebration. The interior of this place is absolutely beautiful. Their service is top-tier, but I expected nonetheless because the seven reasons group always has really great service. The lighting is moody and dark so it's great for a date night or dinner with some friends. I also saw a family dining there so they are accommodating for children. The food is absolutely delicious. I got the Caesar salad, which was absolutely massive and I did not expect it to be this large, but the real star of the show was the scallops. I did not expect these to be so good. They were so flavorful and served inside a cute shell. And another honorable mention is their homemade lemonade which the bar makes and it's actually really good. It was super easy to get a reservation the day before, but I anticipate that the more folks find out about this place, the less likely that will be. Upon arrival, there was parking in a lot behind the restaurant and they also validate your parking for up to 2 hours. The restaurant was beautiful inside, but the weather was nice so we opted for the patio. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was attentive and explained different aspects of the dishes with great detail. Our drinks were delicious and the food was even better. I highly recommend the arepa balls - you get two options in one dish - two short rib filled balls with a zesty tomato sauce and two cheese filled ones with a white sauce and honey glaze. I could have eaten a bucket of those. The cachapa was also delicious - the meat was tender and so flavorful. I enjoyed everything we had. Some of the dishes were smaller portions than I expected, but we also got the fries and eggs dish which was a pretty hefty portion for the price. The restaurant setup is kind of weird in person, but the picture shows more of a cozy smaller restaurant, which is not the case. The customer service was all around terrific, and the waiter was very attentive. Let's get into the food at first and second glance. The menu was not wowing us. We ended up picking their population drink for me, and for my friend, she got the old fashion.. Both cocktails were great. For the appetiter for the table, the tequinos and scallops were ordered for the table for the main course. I ordered the lasagna, and the other guest ordered the stuffed tomato. Both dishes were really tasty. So I would suggest these items to order unless you want drinks and the bar is the best option for you. Overall, I am not sure if I would return. KenScale: 8.0/10 Visit: June 2023 My wife Jun and I usually visit restaurants in DC for our culinary journey in the DMV area. Not only does DC's dining scene have a lot more delicious restaurants, but the dining scene in Maryland's Montgomery County where we live is fairly boring. That dearth of destination worthy restaurants has slowly begun to change since our arrival a couple of years ago. And a good starting point with that positive development is the recently opened Joy by Seven Reasons in Chevy Chase. As much as we are huge fans of the Venezuelan chef Enrique Limardo and his flagship restaurant Imperfecto, I felt at times the chef may be expanding too rapidly (in addition to his original Seven Reasons and Imperfecto, he also opened Joy as well as a new Spanish restaurant called The Saga), which more often than not could negatively impact the quality of each individual restaurant. With that concern in mind, we visited Joy with fairly modest expectations. It turned out that Joy is so much more than an average suburban neighborhood restaurant. As the restaurant's name suggests, there is something quite whimsical and fun with all the dishes we tried at Joy, which features Latin American cuisine with its own distinct touch. I don't recall ever seeing swordfish in tostada before, but I encourage more restaurants to try this combination, just like Joy very skillfully put together with strawberry chile de arbol sauce and trout roe caviar for a perfect summer dish. I certainly never had scallops with parmigiano, and yet Joy delivered a major pleasant surprise in the form of Peruvian scallops with the cheese on top. Another standout dish of the night was a fairly humble one with green rice inside of roasted tomato and fried egg on top. I seriously could have this dish for a meal every day, with the texture of the rice, tomato and egg blending quite seamlessly. Since its opening, the restaurant has gained fame for its $65 colossal short rib sandwich. With the short rib braised for 16 hours, it is the sandwich of pure decadence. We were running out of our room in the stomach around halfway with the sandwich and brought the rest home; it still tasted quite delicious even when we tried it again a few days later at home. For dessert, Joy has a number of different soft serve options. Judging by the way Jun absolutely destroyed the bati-bati with ube soft serve, I think she approved of her choice, and my mango-flavored soft serve (manguito) was also quite delightful. Getting a restaurant at Joy isn't too challenging, but I still suggest booking in advance for prime time on the weekends. The restaurant has a number of fun cocktails and a wine list focused on Spain and South America. The casual and inviting vibe of the dining space evokes a feeling that you are at a family party at somewhere chic in Latin America. I am glad that the suburban Maryland is starting to have exciting restaurants, and would gladly make it again to Joy with Jun to try some other dishes. I wish I could give this 10 stars!! Our company rented the restaurant for the evening and we had some of the best food I have ever eaten in my life. The menu is a blend of Mediterranean and Latin American food with Venezuelan influence as well. The bar had a pre-set menu of cocktails they could make and the Strawberry Mule was very refreshing as well as the Passion over Perfection. They could also make whatever drink was not on the menu that you wanted. There were about 40 people enjoying cocktail hour and the bar tenders kept up with all the drinks! Now to the food... the appetizers that were passed around were the tequenos, ceviche, wings and arrepa! the seafood was so fresh and citrusy, the arrepa balls had tender short rib in them and the warm cheese tequenos were out of this world! I had multiples of those. Once we were seated at our tables we continued with starters. We got the Beef carpaccio, Salmon tiradito, burrata n' hummus, Peri-peri cauliflower, tomate a caballo and green salad with herbs. everything was so fresh and made to order. They served all of the items at the same time so we could all share each of the plates. I don't even know how to express how good the main courses were. We all shared (Family style), whole branzino as pastor, caribbean seafood with coconut rice, and lasagna venezuelan style. The fish was beautifully presented and had the flakiest, juiciest texture to it. I was blown away at the amount of fresh seafood we had and everything was melt in your mouth. Not overcooked or overseasoned which made for a delightful flavor experience. Onto the dessert... I will be coming back just to sit in quiet and have these desserts. The manguito had the most amazing refreshing flavors of mango and passion fruit. It was served in a delicious waffle cone that helped to scoop up the sorbet and make for the perfect avenues to get some crunch and smooth textures. The pina colada flan and chocolate lava cake were spectacular. To say we were all rolling out of that restaurant fat and happy is an understatement! I had brunch on Saturday at Joy by Seven Reasons with two of my friends - and it was such a treat! The venue's decor is really beautiful and takes you on a very whimsical journey. There are numerous indoor and outdoor seating options, which allow for seating different group sizes and dining vibes. There is also bar seating, which looked very trendy. Next time I'm around the area, I'd definitely consider grabbing drinks and trying the venue from a different orientation. The menu had a good range of options for brunch. Some similar to what you would expect from a brunch menu, others which spoke to the restaurant's authentic Latin fusion background. Overall it was a great experience. We were impressed with the cocktails and the food was all delicious. Rating 4.5/5 I had a wonderful time at Joy by Seven Reasons. I went for an impromptu date night this past Friday! The atmosphere was charming and the service was top tier. Our server was very attentive and paid a significant amount of attention to detail. She didn't miss! To drink I started off the the Amazonian G&T which I found to be so refreshing. We absolutely loved the Tequeños for an appetizer, so much so that we put in a 2nd order after demolishing the first. The steak and fries were good, but I felt the steak could have been flavored a tad bit more. I will say that the accompanying homemade chimichurri made up for this. It was so tasty! For dessert, we had the M&N chocolate chip cookies with warm spiced milk. So delicious! Joy by Seven Reasons is a true gem and I would go back in a heartbeat! read more

The food here was very delicious. I got the steak and eggs for brunch and my fiancée got the chicken and waffles tower. Friends we were with got the French toast. Everyone said the food was delicious and so were the drinks. They gave a free chocolate as a treat for us at the end which was nice. The ambiance was very cute - the only thing I'd say is that the restaurant was fairly empty. Maybe can be attributed to being a newer spot. Even though it was more empty - the service was not the best. We were one of six tables and the server did not come by too frequently for refills or questions. That was the only downside. read more

Came here with my sister using bilt credit points for their 3 course dinner. Service was prompt and friendly from all the servers that we interacted with. The overall interior was well decorated with South American influences, typified but the yarn threads that hung from the ceiling. There were not many people in the dinning area which made it feel somewhat empty. The food itself was overall good but not great. The best dishes were the flan dessert and the purple hummus appetizer. These dishes were overall very well balanced and seasoned appropriately. The ceviche was rather one note, only tasting of the acid used to cook the fish. The coconut seafood dish was well seasoned, however the rice was drier for my tastes. The steak was a bit tough a cooked more towards medium than medium rare, which is what I ordered. However the chimichurry sauce and the fries that came with it were done quiet well. The ube ice cream did not have the distinct ube flavor that I was seeking after despite its color, however the crunchy toffee on it tasted quite good. Came here Saturday night for dinner with friends--overall the food was good, has an energetic ambiance and cute decor here! Street parking might be hard but there is a parking garage behind the restaurant. Top food FAVORITES were the Conchitas a la Parmesana (Hokkaido scallops), Branzino Al Pastor (fish taco), Mezzi Rigatoni Marinara, and Pastichio (lasagna with cotto ham)--all quite unique in its own way, how it's prepared, and well-flavored!! Also tried the Watercress Caesar Salad and It is a Potato Salad?--both were just okay. Our cocktails took a while to come out--and I have to say, are a bit pricey (my Hendricks gin & soda was $22). They also charged us more for the drink versus what was priced on their menu ($19)--I didn't notice this until later after we left. NOTE: to reserve a table via Tock, you have to make a $10 deposit per person that will be applied to your final bill, and also pay a $3 credit card fee that you don't get credit back for. There is also an automatic 5% Wage Fee added to all checks! The atmosphere is very vibrant. Staff was nice however my server was not very attentive. It took a while for someone to approach me after I was sitting for some time. What a beautiful restaurant! The inside transitions seamlessly to the outdoor patio area, with huge windows opened between the two. I came here for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the food and wonderful service. My friend and I shared the short rib sandwich and tres leches French toast. The short rib sandwich came with a ton of fall off the bone (they bring the actual bone to show just how tender the meat is, which they braise for over 10 hours), well seasoned short rib. The toppings, particularly the plantain, are unique and flavorful. The only thing lacking were the French fries. They were undercooked, under seasoned, and appeared to come from a freezer bag. Big fan of Seven Reasons, so going to Joy was just natural. Our server Dhaisy made great recommendations and we tried it all. They were going to seat us in the front room by the bar but it was way too loud so we opted for a booth by the open kitchen. Steak carpaccio, scallops and the salmon tiradito for starters. All good but the tiradito was best. Whole Branzino al pastor, atapakua prawns, steak and fries. No misses here. All strong offerings. This is the 3rd restaurant belonging to the 7 Reasons group that I have eaten at. The outdoor seating for the restaurant is amazing on a sunny warm day. The restaurant gave me a very chic miami beach vibe. The Service was very attenative and was well versed on the menu and gave very good recommendations. My favorite item on the menu was the scallop appetizer. And the coconut seafood rice was a great comfort food dish. Overall it was a great experience. We came here with my parents and their friends, as a party of 7. We were sat immediately, but the large table meant it was really hard to hear each other, so this presented an issue in terms of the vibe. The other thing is that most of the dishes are shareable, which is great! But, when you have a large party, and the dishes are meant for 3 or so people, it's hard to navigate what to order. More a note for myself for next time that this isn't the best place for a large party. Things we ordered: *Tostada with swordfish - really liked this! *Scallop starter - really nice as well, perfectly cooked, but literally 3 scallops, so a bit disappointing. *Ceviche - I really wanted to try this because of the passion fruit aspect, but unfortunately that flavor really didn't come through. The fish itself was nice. *Salad - my mom ordered a salad with trout, and it was really good *Prawns - I got the prawns, and there were literally 4 prawns on my plate. This is listed as a main, but if this was the only thing I had ordered, I'd feel cheated (and would have been starving). Literally 4 prawns, no side. Hardly a main. *Tomahawk - luckily, my dad and another person ordered the tomahawk, so I got to supplement my 4 prawns. The tomahawk was fine, but for $155, I expect more than fine. There was a lot of fat on the steak and that definitely made it a letdown. I also had two drinks: watermelon Pisco, which wasn't particularly flavorful, but the passion over perfection, which was recommended by our server was delicious! Overall, the vibe didn't work for our larger group, and I was disappointed with the prawns (it's not a main, sorry guys), and the tomahawk was not a great cut. Food was mediocre nothing grand and I was a little underwhelmed with their chicken and waffles since I read a review saying it was a hot item. That being said the tres leches French toast didn't really taste like tres leches. I truly didn't taste anything but a normal French toast. Service was a little slow and took forever to ask for one item. Seating was odd and kind of uncomfortable for a party of 5. They added a chair to the end of a booth but I had to keep scooting in so the waiters didn't fall into me with the tight squeeze. Our table wasn't cleaned before we were seated. I had dined at seven reasons and figured this one would hit too. They still have a few kinks to work out to make it smooth sailing. Especially being from the award winning team of seven reasons and imperfecto this one needs a little more TLC in the chevy chase area. There were no appetizers to start off except for one item. The starter was Conchitas A La Parmesan's, the veggie is "is this a potato salad", and the main is whole branzino Al Pastor "make your own taco". Food was deliciously modern take on Latin flavor. Bold flavor with beautiful presentation. Portions are good not miserly. Cocktails were inventive. Service is superb. The restaurant is spacious with big indoor space and good outdoor space.
