After being a patient of this dental office for 20+ years, I had an outstanding $25 bill that they sent to collections and canceled my upcoming appointment. I'm really disappointed, and saddened that this office went from a wonderful family vibe to the feeling of a corporation that doesn't care about its patients getting the care they need, only their profit/bottom line. I hate to give a bad review for the practice because the hygienist that I had for the short time I was there was incredible. Unfortunately, it appears that a different dentist has taken over the practice recently, and his philosophy on dentistry is that, pain is an integral part of dental work and can't be avoided. At my most recent cleaning, they found a small cavity, but because of the previous extensive filling (done by a different dentist), Dr. Oh decided it was time for a crown. They got all the materials together to get an imprint made for both the temporary and the permanent crown. Dr. Oh then approached me with the hypodermic and I was thinking, "What? No topical to numb the injection site?". No way! He then proceeded to inject the novocain at a rate that produced excruciating pain from the hydraulic pressure. I sat right up in the chair and said, "This is not painless dentistry!" He just chuckled, and said, "There's going to be some discomfort. It can't be avoided with a block." Sorry doctor, but I've had two dentists whose philosophies were that there is no reason for anybody to experience pain during a dental procedure, and if you were experiencing any pain, it was only because the dentist didn't want to take the time to allow the novocain to numb the tissue as it's being injected. The only experience I've had that was worse than this experience was when another dentist I had started drilling before the novocain took effect, and when I reacted, he said, "That doesn't hurt!" That was my first and last visit to him as well. So, even though my hygienist has been incredible, until another dentist takes over Joy Dental, I won't be back to Dr. Oh's little shop of horrors. read more

I wish my review could be more favorable to support a Maine (?) business. The practice suffered extensive flood damage, but I willingly waited months to be seen because of the good reviews. I had made clear my phobia about dentistry, for which I am being treated by a doctor, so I was conscious of finding a suitable practice, and that influences my review. -several text messages to arrive on time. -on arrival, no one was in the waiting room or at the desk. -a sign on the window said, "I am at lunch." -after a while, a woman walked in, across the waiting room (not acknowledging me) and into the office. -after another while, the same woman opened the office door and said the dentist would not be in for an hour, could I come back? -I returned in an hour. A woman (who neither greeted me nor introduced herself, led me into a well-appointed treatment room. -the gist: turned out, she was a technician. She did not know how to work either X-ray machine, had to be instructed in situ, and X-rays had to be done a second time. -another woman (the dentist, I presume...she also neither greeted me nor introduced herself), looked at my teeth, but repeatedly stabbed a sharp instrument into my gums. "Ouch." "I'm sorry." I was not able to continue with this practice, but others have given favorable reviews, so I can only conclude this was just not a good fit for me. read more

A bsolutely one of the best offices in Central Maine ! The friendly and smart staff and the amazing Dentist and assistance are above and beyond!!!! Amazed at how they treat each individual !! Each patient should be treated as an individual and each case to her or his individual need! 10 STAR!! And I had two horrible teeth pulled! I recommend highly as music and a calming video is played for those are of a higher stress need !!!!Patient for life!Thankful to find these gems read more

We are fairly new in town, so I found myself recently looking for a new dentist in the Lewiston area. The staff we spoke with were excellent, and provided the new patient paperwork to us via email ahead of our appointments, which streamlined our visits. I am always a tad nervous when meeting new providers, but this office is excellent! The waiting room is comfortable and there is plenty of parking. From the front desk staff, to the dental hygienists, and even Dr. Shim, they were all so friendly, upbeat and terrific at their jobs, I felt comfortable immediately. It was really a pleasure! Special shout out to Jen, who made me smile and laugh without using nitrous oxide! She is absolutely the best hygienist I have been to. Thanks to you all for such a positive experience! read more
